It’s truly ineffable how much seeing Kate has changed my life for the better. As someone with Endometriosis(and CFS and, now, POTS) her nutritional advice has been invaluable. Even as someone who’d been following the Endo diet for 4 years before seeing her, she made suggestions and helped me form new habits that have had significant, lasting impacts on my ability to survive during the worst of my flareups and otherwise enable me to pursue athletic endeavours as well as to heal /maintain my gut. This is beyond what I expected and, again, the impact of her suggestions has grown exponentially since our initial sessions. Kate was also insistent that we focus on my emotional well-being and on achieving my goals. Perhaps others with chronic or invisible illnesses will understand that this can be a touchy subject(or rather, those of us who’ve had doctors claim our illnesses are just in our head), and I was initially resistant and suspicious. However, these sessions were infinitely valuable. She helped shift my perspective in critical ways when I didn’t realize it could or needed to be shifted. She helped me set and accomplish goals. She helped me come out of denial about my illnesses and, thus, think about how I could truly optimize and live my life while accepting the realities of my chronic, disabling conditions. But more importantly, she helped permanently change some of my thought processes and instincts. I’m by no means perfect and will always be a work in progress, but her voice is now in my head, guiding me, and I now almost instinctively take actions I learned in our sessions that help me physically, emotionally, spiritually, and even career-wise. Kate’s wonderful – she genuinely cares about you and wants the best for you. But more importantly(and I say this as someone who’s seen a fair amount of therapists) she’s an incredibly adept healer – the most adept I’ve ever known. Finally, I think that many people with chronic(or rare) illnesses can relate to how incredibly frustrating it is to meet with doctors – or even specialists – who haven’t heard of our illness, aggressively advocate potentially dangerous misinformation, dismiss our concerns, or insist it’s only in our heads. After 12 years of chronic illness, I’ve interacted with a great number of doctors, and I’ve learned to come into appointments having already researched my symptoms and with a suggested treatment plan(and various PubMed studies to back it up). I felt like a huge weight had been lifted off of my shoulders when Kate was not only incredibly compassionate towards me, believed me, and empathized with my very long, painful journey, but also went above and beyond by doing some of her own research on my condition and symptoms. I felt truly heard, and for one of the first times, taken care of. I strongly recommend Kate to anyone who wants to optimize their physical health, to accomplish life goals, and, simply, transcend.
