The Social Study finds an unique niche between the comfort of a warm lounge, a worker’s bar, the soft notes of Busta’ Rhymes, and The Smurfs running amok on a brick wall. I recommend the 5 bone«extended blend» red, chicken street-style tacos with overkill Cholula, and a cool Scrimshaw.

Love Love LOVE this place! Such a charming little spot, hidden away in a corner of San Francisco. It’s perfect for studying, relaxing, socializing, hanging out with friends, or even a super casual dinner/date. The ambiance is great with good music, creative décor, and a variety of seating options. I met up here with a friend, and we enjoyed a few glasses of delicious wine and a decadent cheese platter. I’m a huge wine-and-cheese kinda girl, so this definitely hit the spot, and I enjoyed myself immensely. This is a great spot to visit during the afternoon and get some work done or read a good book, or a fun spot to hang out with a few friends. Absolutely loved it!

Stopped by while visiting the family in San Fran. The atmosphere was pleasant and we had a good time. Had a few cocktails and few sandwiches. Good food and good drinks with great company, what else can you ask for.

Delicious food — definitely recommend the veggie sandwich and veggie tacos. Dirty chai latte was so good. Nice vibe — good music and cozy/fun décor.

The atmosphere of The Social Study is very dim, loud music from a live DJ, and very casual. By 9pm on a Saturday, it was packed with people. They serve a variety of Beer and Wine Cocktails as well as other extravagant drinks, but be sure to try the Sangria!

First time here and it was awesome. Great sangria and wine, quick service from the busy bartenders and the DJ was killing it. It you like 90s, 80s & Drake music with wine and friends, I recommend.

Xoxo to Social Study! Dimly lit spot that is hidden from main view and I love the charm that this mini bar with seating exudes. They serve up swanky cocktail drinks, wine and beer. The sidekick was well named because it came with a beer and a side of sake shot. Surely, a complementary sidekick. Interesting part about this place is that one can bring their workload or if you’re a bookworm and thirsty while at it, it can be brought here to commit to. Getting your drink on to release the anxiety or release for relaxation, is the best form of therapy — especially while trying to tone down the workload or up the imagination in a book. Cheers to some socializing and to some studying!

I like The Social Study. It kind of reminds me of Central Perk from Friends by the décor of the place. Very hip and relaxing atmosphere where you can enjoy some Four Barrel Coffee or have a few cocktails and bar bites to pass the time. Their cocktails menu categorized into Winetails, Beertails, and Karatetails which drinks are named in reference to The Karate Kid. If a place has drinks called Sweep The Leg and Kobra Kai, I’m already a fan! Of course I went with the Sweep The Leg which has Alakey Soju, thyme, cucumber, lemon, pineapple. It’s a very refreshing drink to have and thankfully there was no need to put me in a body bag after finishing it. Another time I came here I had the a Spicy Coke from their Winetails. It’s a very interesting mix made up of Port, Four Barrel Espresso, lemon, cane cola. I didn’t have a chance to try any of the food but next time I go there I would love to their their Roast Pork Mini Tacos and BLT Bites. They sound really good and would probably pair well with any over their cocktails. If parking was easier in the area during the day, I’d probably visit Social Study more often, but at least at night it’s a lot easier to park nearby. It’s cool spot to hangout and I highly recommend stopping by here if you’re waiting for a table at any of the restaurants nearby like Dosa, Izakaya Kou, or State Bird Provisions.

I love the vibe of Social Study. Very laid back with good music. I met up with some girlfriends for happy hour on Thursday, November 19th a little before 6pm. We had some drinks and snacks. *Cabernet sauvignon, rancho sisquoc 2010: Santa Barbara county, california($ 12 glass) *Cabernet, syrah blend, big guy: Yountville, california($ 11 glass) I’m a bold, full bodied red kind of girl, so I randomly picked the cab. It was good, but our bartender Ryan suggested I try the Big Guy. This was definitely more my style. I liked it better than the cab. I didn’t try any, but we also ordered the Classic potato skins: Idaho russets, cheddar cheese, rosemary /brown sugar rubbed bacon, sour cream, scallions($ 9). The order came with three potato skins and my gfs seemed to enjoy them. I didn’t try any of their HH specials, but I believe they have one red wine, one white and sangria on it. I think their HH ends at 7pm, so my gfs had plenty time to take advantage of it. There wasn’t a DJ the night we went, but I’d be interested in coming back when there is. I really enjoyed the lax vibe. And it wasn’t too crowded which is always a plus!

Favorite bar /study in the neighborhood. 90% of the times I would get Sweep the Leg, which has soju, thyme, lemon, pineapple, and cucumber. Never knew the mix could be so tasty and refreshing. Also tried Sanfrangria and red chile Guavarita, they were great but I guess Sweep the Leg was just unique. Silent videos, TV shows, or movies played on the wall, with a DJ upstairs most nights. The interior was just like a study, with books and gadgets like a globe and boardgames. People also read, studied or worked on laptops here on more quiet weekday nights. Would certainly be back, maybe trying out their coffee or snacks next time.

Loved the moody, laid back vibe. I came here alone around 9 pm on a Tuesday and was surprised to find it filled on a weeknight. I found myself bugging Siri frequently to find out what song was playing, happy to have made some discoveries that I can add to my Spotify playlists!

What a cool place. I stopped in here before going to a show at the Fillmore because it’s literally less than a block away from the venue. It’s not huge so don’t plan on going here with a bunch of people. They have a variety of bites and drinks to try. I opted for a handmade soda which was quite tasty and reasonably priced. It’s a cool spot for meeting up with people before going to a show. I will definitely stop by again if I’m in the neighborhood.

Looks the part of hipster SF with the exposed brick walls and dark wood. And I love the chairs that fold out from the wall. Note that it’s beer/wine only – they do some beer/wine-tails. Best to look for a night when it’s not SUPER crowded and chill with some friends to stay true to the whole vibe of being more relaxed. Personally I prefer going at night over during the day.

This is a really cute little wine and beer bar! Came here with a few friends after eating dinner at State Bird. It’s literally right around the corner so it’s a great place to come and chill with friends after your meal. The inside décor really lives up to the name. It has a classic type of library feel, with dim lighting, shelves full of books, and has kind of a SoHo vibe, which I loved. There was plenty of seating and it was pretty busy for a Monday night. There are seats at the bar, and the tables, and there are also little nooks in the front with benches that are intimate and a nice place to just sit and talk. They also have a collection of board and card games which was a great touch! We didn’t know they only served beer and wine until we came in, and although I was looking to get something a little stronger I didn’t mind it. They also have a list of wine and soju cocktails(called ‘Karatetails’), so I decided to try the Goldeneye. It was pretty good — just would have been better with a shot or two of something! The wine and beer list was pretty good, and I switched over to the Red Zinfandel after my first cocktail. Overall I thought this was a really cute spot! The bartender was super nice and accommodating, and service overall was great. I recommend it for anyone looking for a mellow place to have a drink and catch up with friends.

Oddly enough, I did come here to study and get work done because I love drinking and I was drawn to the idea of alcohol + work. There were a few others who were at the bar doing work as well. It’s not the greatest place to be productive, especially because of the dim lighting and the small tables. It got considerably worse as the Saturday afternoon progressed – the music changed from an ambient chill to loud hip-hop, a game was projected onto the wall, and the level of noise got pretty loud pretty quickly. I chose to leave at that point. However, the bartenders were attentive, the drinks were yummy, and the Cuban sliders I ordered were absolutely fantastic. As a bar, 4 stars. As a café, 3 stars.

This place is has an after work meeting place vibe. Also a secret romance meeting place sort of vibe except that is smallish and it’s a small world. There is a high likely hood of running into someone you know, it’s at the crossroads. Fillmore and Japantown are right next door, stop in before or after. It has an chill vibe for sure, something special. It’s simple, it’s straight forward. They have good drinks and music. It almost feels like a friends garage. I dig the décor and the movies(Top Gun) projected on the Brick wall.

I think I just found my new favorite bar in San Francisco. Everything about Social Study is absolutely perfect, from the friendliness of the bartender and the quality of cocktails to the awesome top 40s classic hip hop and RNB and chill vibe. The wall opposite of the bar is lined with two-person seating and the seats fold into the walls. And of course there are books for days. I would love to study here someday… after I find something to study. My friend and I ordered the Guavarita and Sweep the Leg cocktails, which we were enjoying to the tune of Me & You by Cassie. Would highly recommend either of those drinks. I know they also have coffee and food(such as tacos) during the day, so I’ll have to come back and try those. Maybe I will just camp out during the day and drink coffee until it’s time for wine and cocktails. Social Study is multi-purpose!

I was looking for a place to do some work in San Francisco and stumbled upon a place that looked really intriguing and offered both coffee drinks and wine. It also resembled a cool study room, complete with exposed bricks and tons of vinyl covers and old books on the wall. I love the concept of The Social Study. The music was nicely curated and the coffee was great. I had a cheese plate that had been thoughtfully selected and paired with jams, honey and other sides. The rest of the menu was equally intriguing. I would give it more stars but the bartender and possible owner was holding a meeting with her attorney. Many details of the problems she is having with an old business associates were discussed. I just wanted to do some work and could have done without the extra meeting going on near my seat. All that aside, The Social Study is the perfect place to get some work done and to relax with a glass of wine and one of the nicely prepared menu selections.

Perhaps this is the one stop shop for all. Wine. Beer. Coffee. Music. Funky seating décor. And all in the heart of Japantown/Filmore. I came here on a Thursday night and it was pretty popping. They turn up the music really loud after 7:30pm. And it’s good — caffeinating to some old school classic hip hop and R&B. You even see some people getting their groove on. I recommended this for drinks. Yes, alcoholic drinks. Coffee? Not so much. I made the mistake of ordering a latte with soy milk. It was really disappointing. The espresso tasted watered down, almost like coffee. No almond milk in stock either. Latte art? What latte art? So come for after hour drinks. Cute date night spot or just a chill place to catch up with some friends. And don’t take the name so literally, you won’t be getting any studying done. Let’s be honest.

This month craving is all about charcuterie and crafty cocktails. I did a little research of where to get my craving satisfy and this happen to be near where I am going to eat for dinner. Score! Early enough for happy hour, I got to try their charcuterie and their tasty cocktail called The Crane. Love it and I can’t wait to come back. I hope you give this place a try. Cheers!
