Modern, futuristic, digital and thought provoking art. If you are in the market or even just in the area you should check out this gallery. The owner Joan McLoughlin, is awesome. I would not call myself an artsy person. However I have a deep interest in art, an interest that has been developing over the past several years. Before my visit to this art gallery I had never been to an art gallery before. Seriously. I was walking to get my haircut around Union Square and decided to check this place out. I had done a little research on Unilocal and this place looked«right up my alley» so to speak. I really like modern art, especially digital art and this gallery has a reputation for showing modern, digital and thought-provoking art. So glad I went! LOCATION /GALLERY ENVIRONMENT ========== Convenient location in the gallery district of San Francisco just south of Union Square. You have to go up an elevator to the second floor and follow some signs. There are also several other cool shops and galleries on the same floor. It’s somewhat tucked away which I thought gave it some ‘hidden gem’ appeal. The galley itself is like a loft with high ceilings and lots of natural light from all the windows. ARTCOLLECTION ====== Varied collection of modern, digital and thought provoking artwork with different mediums. One piece was video-based that integrates with Twitter and YouTube, another was a type of interactive digital artwork with different lights sensitive to touch. Several very cool photographs too of San Francisco. 5⁄5 SERVICE ====== I was very pleasantly surprised when the owner, Joan, was there and gave me a personal tour of the gallery. She spoke with a lot of passion about art in general and had a lot to say about the pieces that were on display at the gallery. We had a great discussion about the individual art pieces when she was showing me around. Joan also had a few venture ideas about providing a kind of art subscription to businesses. Looking forward to continuing this discussion. PRICE /VALUE ======= I can’t speak to the value as it is so subjective and I am the farthest thing from a collector(we can all hope though, right?!) so not sure I’m in any place to give an opinion here. I’ll just say that it isn’t cheap but isn’t exorbitantly expensive either. It’s noteworthy that I didn’t feel like Joan was aggressively selling me. TIP ======= — Be open minded to checking this place out even if you aren’t in the market.

The McLoughlin Gallery incorporates a range of styles and mediums around one central theme«Art that makes you think». They showcase all different types of work from painting and sculpture to photography and pop art. I recently attended an opening for artist Desire Obtain Cherish, which was an intriguing and engaging experience. They are not afraid to do something outside the norm, which for this show meant an installation piece that allowed the audience to participate in a live street art demonstration. Also it supports philanthropic causes such as Stanford Cancer Center with its proceeds. Overall GREAT gallery that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for art!!!

Joan McLoughlin has assembled some incredible artists in her new art gallery space, The McLoughlin Gallery. It is also a gallery that gives back to the community. She plans to donate a percentage of her net sales profits to Glide Memorial and the Stanford Cancer Center. Conveniently located in the Union Square area, it’s a wonderful new space for inspiration and motivation. Her opening and recent shows with artists Christine Comyn, Renaud Delorme, Pia Maria Martin, Dalia Nosratabadi, Jan Peter Van Opheusden, Kirstine Roepstorff and John Waguespack have been well attended and a welcomed addition to the San Francisco art scene.
