Like the illegal prostitution parlor next door, this place is likely unregulated. We went here for a small concert. The choice of bands was dismal at best. I don’t even know where they find these people; it’s like they found them on Craigslist and the ad was for«who can scream the loudest while the other smashes his head into a wall?» The room was stuffy and humid. The other patrons smelled like the idea of showering had not yet graced humanity. On leaving, you could see the fog on the windows because it’s that gross inside. Everything about this place screams dive-y. I couldn’t even enjoy the excuse of a concert, let alone the space. They call this place an art gallery, but I didn’t see any gallery — or art, for that matter. If a date tries to take you here, you can safely pass on the second date. You’re welcome.

I used to live right above them and these guys are really cool. It used to be something else before but since the Honey Hive Gallery set up, the neighborhood been a bit more bright! Especially the huge bee mural on the outside! They use this spot for other artist and hold workshops on different art mediums. I haven’t been back for a while since I moved to Germany, but if you’re new to San Francisco or never even been here. Read this guide to San Francisco! I picked the Honey Hive Gallery because it’s now a big part of the Sunset community! Thanks guys at the Honey Hive for being really down to earth! –Mike Le All Day!

This review is purely based on the«venue» room in the Honey Hive and not the actually art gallery itself. If you are a band, touring or local, don’t book a show here. What this art gallery markets as a venue for shows is actually a small room about the size of a bedroom. There is no stage, the sound is absolutely terrible, and whoever is in charge of running sound for this place is lacking some of the gear necessary to put on a show. They were charging $ 10 at the door for admission to a room that was hot, humid, and cramped. The bands hardly had enough room to set up in the space provided. Several people left with injuries from being accidentally knocked down due to the amount of people squished in a tiny room.

Great little venue for live music. Acoustics are surprisingly good. Nice batch of reasonably priced art.

Be sure to spot at Java Beach(about three blocks up towards the Ocean) for some great sandwiches and a beer, glass of wine, or cup of coffee before you check out the exhibit. Great vibes as soon as you enter the gallery. You can purchase some really nice art for your collection here. Check it out if you in Sunset District and have some time to spare.

This place is truly amazing along with their amazing employees. They are always putting on different events and doing what I would consider an amazing job bringing the community together. Any time you drop by make sure to give them a tip! They use them to keep the gallery open.

This space is truly magical. Every time you walk in, you are greeted by friendly folks who are truly committed to bringing the beauty of creativity to the community. All of the staff are artists themselves and it comes out in the way that they are running the space. There is something in this space for everyone! Whether you are a painter, sculpter, writer, musician, comedian, welder, poet, WHATEVER, The Honey Hive will open its doors to you and greet you with open arms. They are also super open to feedback and ideas if you come in and talk with them. Danny(the owner) is super approachable. In regards to some complaints about the behavior of their guests, it is clear that the staff does not encourage this behavior. Unfortunately, having music attracts some unruly patrons, but they are doing everything in their power to keep disrespectful people out of the space and the neighborhood. And, honestly, 90% of their events are extremely tame. It is unfair to let one or two instances of people acting foolish tarnish the reputation of an honest, upstanding business. Come check this place out and get involved! They will be more than happy to get to know you there.

The honey hive, oh gosh… where do I start?! First off, this place is why I’m moving back to San Francisco. The honey hive is a place that cultivates creativity, community, and of course ART! No place draws a more diverse, awesome, vibrant group of artists like the honey hive. And most importantly to me, it draws friendly, upbeat, supportive people who want to encourage art through out their communities. Very one who comes to the honey hive is welcomed like and old friend and heck, that’s not easy to find in the art community. So come check it out! Bring friends, bring your bike, your dog, stay and chat up the staff and patrons and take a workshop or two while your at it. It will revolutionize and enrich your life, and your art oh, and the staff is killer!

the honey hive gallery is an amazing art startup i came across that targets a wide range of people from all sorts of backgrounds. it is a studio you can visit to set yourself free through the perception of all the great bay area artists, a studio well known for having a very diverse gallery, rather than the typical boring posh businesses you can find everywhere else. My group of friends and i feel that this gallery truly embraces the real culture and art of san francisco, the owner is involved because he is passionate, not because he wants to make money or please dog walkers(ref.earlier comment). As a tech employee myself, i feel partially responsible, and so should that negative commenter, for the gentrification this city is clearly going through. Also, You are generalizing people and calling The Mission District«the hood» which is extremely judgmental. That type of attitude is not welcome in this neighborhood, in fact, people move to this neighborhood, and this city, to get away from such ignorant and wrongfully outspoken thoughts. and FYI: the mission is now mostly tech giant employees, so fact check yourself before you attempt to wrongfully discredit an honest business. :) Great art, fantastic gallery, incredibly welcoming, i encourage everyone to go visit.

The Honey Hive is a beautiful art gallery/place to bring the community together. I’ve been really blessed to volunteer my time at the Honey Hive because I have met some truly talented and kind hearted people. As an artist and human being interested in bringing people together I have fallen in love with the Honey Hive. So far the Honey Hive has hosted many different events which have appealed to a diverse crowd. I have been grateful to experience the writing workshops, open mic nights, musical shows, figure drawing workshop, free BBQ, art openings, etc. Also I have recently hosted a collage workshop which was really fun. The best thing about hosting is that you get to meet people and get to know them through art. If you’re not hosting it’s also great because it’s a nice place to meet people. I highly recommend this place because it’s so much more than an art gallery. The Honey Hive is a place to meet someone new and develop yourself through expressing your inner world. Everyone has a unique perspective of the world, yet how often do people share their thoughts and emotions with others in such a relaxed community fashion face to face? I feel lucky to be at the Honey Hive with others. I hope you’ll stop by and check it for yourself. :)
