I saw Gray last night for the first time as I was recommended to him from a friend and I’m so happy she told me about him! I’m trying to transition my hair color and Gray did a great job explaining how he would help me get there. He made me feel comfortable with the process and was very thorough when highlighting my hair. Sometimes I’ve felt rushed when getting my hair done, but definitely not with Gray! He’s a sweet guy and fun to talk to as well. I’m looking forward to my next appointment in September!

Here I am, six years later, still a Fractory devotee. Jane has taken me from short to medium to long cuts, and each time I’ve been happy. After over a decade of seeing her(I think I had been going to her for at least five years before my first review of her shop in 2007) she may know my hair better than even I know my hair. Yet she still spends a while figuring out how a certain cut that I want will work with my hair texture. She takes nothing for granted. She’s recently opened a Sonoma outpost, so while there are some lucky people in Sonoma, I hope this doesn’t mean we’ll see less of her here in SF!

I began at the Fractory with Gray, the colorist extraordinaire, who keeps my full, wavy mane looking absolutely alluring. After watching Jane cut other peoples’ hair, I decided to have her do mine. She’s truly a genius – my coif is so incredibly cut(and colored) that even men stop me on the streets(once in NYC of all places) and complimented me on my hair. Women ask me where I have it done. Jane has that rare quality in a hairdresser where she listens and suggests, and I emerge with the best cuts of my life(and I’m picky). BTW, she’s so modest, it took years to find out that she’d won several prestigious Hair Stylist of the Year gold medals. Now I book two appointments ahead so I know they’ll have room for me. This is The Place for great hair(and, fortunately, it is low key).

Gray is the best colorist in the city. He is intuitive and creative and willing to take risks. He did exactly what I wanted which was a rather complicated procedure. Go Fractory!

I started seeing Jane based on the amazing haircuts of a friend of mine, and Jane is her stylist. I could not be happier with a stylist. Jane is sweet and funny, and her haircuts not only look good when you’re sitting there in the chair with her, but when you go home and wash the next day. She always gives me exactly what I want, and then a little bit more that I didn’t know that I wanted. It’s never boring, always easy to care for, and grows out amazingly.

Gray is the best colorist I’ve ever been to. I’ve got the dark asian hair and somehow, he has managed to lighten it without the ugly red/orange color that can happen after your hair starts to fade. In fact, when my hair does fade, it sometimes looks even better! Also, I have to add that the chair next to Gray is Jane’s. She cuts my hair like no other. This woman knows when a woman says just cut an inch at the bottom, she really means just an inch! Plus, she can layer hair beautifully! These two are also super sweethearts! Not at all snooty like other salons and stylists.

I’ve been going to The Fractory for over 10 yrs for my hair cut and color. Jane, Gray and Bennie are simply the BEST. I moved 3 hrs away, but I have yet to find anyone comparable, so I drive the 3 hours and it’s well worth the trip. I always leave the salon feeling pretty. They are all true professionals and simply the best in the business.
