It was inexpensive and in a great location in Duboce Triangle. However, the Castillo Inn isn’t a cozy place to crash and breakfast was a bit disappointing. The place is also in serious need of renovation. The back door felt like it was going to fall off.

Great location. Friendly service, interesting guests… overall a great bargain for the area. We hope to go back soon!

This European-style(read: shared bathroom) B&B is located in my neighborhood, so although I’ve never actually stayed there, some of my friends and family have. It’s best quality is the location, very close to Castro, Lower Haight, and buses/trains to downtown. It’s cozy and clean but a bit under-decorated. In other words, it’s better as a place to crash after long days exploring the City than it is as a place to relax for the day. The owner, Mario, is warm and friendly. Also, breakfast is just a section of breads and cereal, which is nice encouragement to go to one of the many yummy brunch places in the neighborhood. Rooms have a queen or double bed and cost $ 65-$ 80(last I heard).
