I always tell myself to steer away from the carbs, but gosh darn it, The Bagel Bakery is my weakness. I’ve failed so hard and had a bagel sandwich three days in a row now. I’m a salmon lover, so I love their lox sandwich. Carbs mixed with cream cheese and topped with smoked salmon is the best. Their turkey club is also solid(who doesn’t love bacon?) and their California is also awesome. I had their tuna which was a bit plain to me. Bonus points for being open at 6am in SoMa!

They no longer sell bialy’s here, so anyone looking for a Tony Soprano breakfast in the finanacial district like me is SOL. Their bagels and smear’s are great nonetheless. service is fast so even if you see a line you’ll be up before you know it But damn do I wish they had bialy’s.

This is likely one of my favorite places to eat. Especially during work hours! They have breakfast sandwiches, including breakfast bagel sandwiches and good coffee! Also they have bagel sandwiches for lunch; including my favorite, the BLT bagel sandwich. As far as «fast food» goes, they are fast at making what you order. But at least I do not feel as guilty eating there, as opposed to the usual fast food places. The grilled sandwiches take a little longer to make, but it’s still much faster than most typical restaurants that make the same kind of meals, like their grilled chicken sandwiches. For those who are just picking up breakfast or lunch, it’s a great place. The variety isn’t vast, but it’s a small place and I doubt they are aiming to have giant crowds of people coming and sitting down to eat. I’m glad they exist, or else I’d have to go to Subway or McDonalds for a quick pick up. Heh.

I like bagels and I like sandwiches. So what drew me in to this place was the fact that they specialize in what they call«bagelwiches»(that portmanteau tho). But after taking a closer look at the menu, I saw that they also sell regular sandwiches and coffee, among other things. Facts: * I’ve been here twice so far and have had a ham and swiss«bagelwich» on pumpernickel and a California Reuben on my first and second visit, respectively. The«bagelwich» was packed with ham and condiments and the swiss cheese was very sharp. My reuben was pretty good, although I must admit that I’ve never had a reuben with turkey before. * The first time I came in, the lady who took my order was… salty. Didn’t get even a hi out of her. I like my food salty, but not my service. The second time, I was attended to by a different lady who was… sweet. That’s better. * There are a few seats inside, but you’re best off just ordering your food to-go as there is little standing room inside and it can get busy quickly. * You can also get drinks from a fridge. * If you order your food to-go, they’ll put it in a small paper bag with a few napkins and, in my case, a small container of complimentary macaroni salad. * Because of the name, they have a very wide selection of bagels from which to choose. * Prices are not unreasonable. In conclusion, this place is pretty good. If you especially like bagels, get your @$$ over here. 4 stars

I really think this is one of the best bagel shops in SF. I live right around the corner and love when I happen to wake up early enough to make it over before going to work. My fave is the tomato cheddar bagel toasted with butter. The turkey bagel sandwich is also really good; and if you want something sweet, try a banana nut muffin! Such a pleasant surprise when I get one that is still warm, fresh out of the oven.

Found two fruit flys in my bagel and the employees wouldn’t give me a refund. They tried to say it was my fault and that they’d refund me only $ 5 for the bagel when I paid $ 6.50 plus tax for it. Last time I’m every going to this place. YUCK!

Rude service. It was my first and hopefully last time in this place. I visited to buy coffee for me and my boss with corporate credit card. He likes specifically large iced coffee with cream and I decide to take medium hot coffee for me. After girl charged me(of course with no smile. whatever) she given to me [large] iced coffee and she run to the another end of room. I was first time I have no idea about some cups around what I suppose to take automatically. I asked polite where is another hot medium coffee. She just show with finger, didn’t say sorry or whatever. Then I didn’t see any cream, okay… Finally I realize I have 2 same sizes cups– medium. I tried to ask, she yelled at me from the other end«we have just two sizes for iced!». [Thanks] for didn’t say me that before. My boss was [happy]. P. S. I worked in coffee shop and I know what it is. But if you don’t want to work in service industry — just don’t work, find something else

Time: 7:03am/60°F partly cloudy Purpose: On my way back from Neighbor Bakehouse picked up pastry for office. Decided to pull over as I didn’t have anything to eat yet. Mind was on pastry, but that won’t be possible for two more hours. Etiquette here. Set-up: Located on a corner of alleyway on Townsend street adjacent to parking garage. Shop has two entrances with no sidewalk seating. Inside one table only sits three with some standing room. Small place packs in 6 – 7 people at most. Counter area display of bagel in wire baskets and a cold fridge for refrigerated goods. Utensil counter with coffee thermo for self help service and cold beverage fridge. Not much standing room as most take it to go. Place not too stuffy as long as both doors are open. Staff: Two girls and a couple I assume owners. Warm greeting with brisk efficient service during peak hours. Close to working in tandem one prep while other cashier and packaging. No problems here just order, pay and wait. Wait time is under a minute no matter what’s being order. Cleanliness: Grade A, well kept meticulously clean. A few crumb and seed here and there, but nothing overwhelming its a bakery. Eats/Drinks: Egg salad on everything bagel $ 5.75 quite tasty. Bagel was fresh had exterior crunch while inside hot to warm. Egg salad portion cover bagel generously with tomato, onion, cucumber, and lettuce all tuck in stack nicely. It’s satisfying and delicious while getting your day started. Didn’t care for the fixings as long as egg salad and bagel taste good is all I care for. Main Features: Bagels of breakfast/lunch sando. Products/Services: Bagel omelets, bagelwiches, lox, muffins, freshly squeezed OJ, breakfast/lunch all day, assorted bagels, assorted juices/smoothies, day old discount. Coffee by Peerless/tea by Twinings/Stash/Bigelow. Smoothies by Odwalla. Punch Lines: Open early, warm service, fast/efficient, modest price, seats are minimal, takes plastic, in/out with 3 – 4 mins most, pleasing flavors, can’t go wrong, most sandos available all day, street parking(hard), two minutes from at&t park. Tradeoffs: Closed on weekends caters to the mon-fri morning and lunch crowd. Final Thoughts: Bagels here are a step above Noah’s and Posh, but not surpassing Authentic Bagel Co. Landing somewhere in the middle of line up. However, warm friendly service and the ability to do it right first time around will have me returning. Nothing special just a bagel place located in SOMA area for the convience of commuters.

Another mediocre– bagel in SF, in a city with otherwise high food standards. No flavor, wrong texture, eggs were microwaved. Not to mention they got my order wrong but I’m not surprised since they barely spoke transactional English. Very disappointing.

I crave these bagels while sitting behind my desk. The pesto glued to the top of the bagel under a beautifully melted plaster of cheese My choice of chive cream cheese melding cucumber slices to the insides of that beautiful bagel. The fruit cups and fresh orange juice waiting for you as you enter. So beautiful here. So bagel-y perfect and straight to the point. I also add one boiled egg to my order for a nice well-rounded fullness in my tummy. Prices are awesome. I have yet to spend more than 8 dollars here for breakfast or lunch.

This place has the best bagels I’ve had in the city/peninsula — like the pumpernickel flavor but all the flavors are good. Not the same as NYC but it does the trick. Thanks for being in the area! The staff are always friendly and efficient.

Perhaps I have a high standard for bagels. These bagel sandwiches(tried their Lox& cream cheese and the Cali(avocado egg swiss)) are decent but basic — there’s nothing special about them. They fill the tummy but you’re not like«wow» after eating them(I’ve said wow to bagel sandwiches many a time). Their coffee /cappuccino is very meh, especially considering Philz is quite close by. Their service was pretty quick for morning rush hour. May come back but will search for another before-work-breakfast spot.

5 stars for the bagels –5 million for the service As you read this review, keep in mind I hate onion bagels, and I don’t often leave Unilocal reviews. This place is good, but lately the service has gone down hill. 3 out of the last 3 times I’ve been here I’ve experienced a problem(actually more times, but I’ve forgiven previous mistakes) Once my bagel sat on the counter for 5 minutes before it was finally wrapped and handed over. By the time I got back to my desk it was pretty cold. Luckily we have a microwave, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a hot bagel store. Once there was a really queue that looped back on itself and out to the door. All the while no one on the tills seemed to be serving anyone, I walked out after 10 minutes of waiting(during which the queue did not move) because my stomach was rumbling. I went to McDonalds down the street and had a sausage & egg muffin in my hands in 45 seconds — admittedly it wasn’t as good as a bagel, but it was in my hands. I have no idea how long it took the people around me to get served, hopefully none of them starved. The final straw was now, as I thought I’d give them one more chance. Went in to order a bagel, sesame seed — my favorite — they were sold out! «Not a problem», I thought to myself and ordered an egg bagel. When I got back to my desk I discovered I was not, in fact, given an egg bagel. To my horror and dismay it was… an onion bagel. While I was willing to forgive all the previous transgressions I’ve experienced here, this is unforgivable. In Summary: When they get it right, they have delicious bagels… but thats contingent on them getting it right.

It’s happening — the Californication of what was once a reasonable facsimile of a decent, East Coast bagel. I know this is a worn out subject, but damn it, this is important. You used to be able to get a properly cooked bagel here, and by that I mean it comes out of the oven cooked to perfection as God intended — BROWN and crisp on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. To toast such a divine creation makes me want to drop to my knees and weep. I think what’s happened here is the well meaning proprietors have just caved. The unacquainted outnumber the enlightened here in SF, so the default is to toast, and to toast an already browned bagel is to overcook it, so out comes an anemic bagel. Sad. Could you please at least set aside some brown ones for us bagel snobs from the east that everyone wants to punch for not shutting up about this?

Fast, wonderful and delicious! Everything bagel is a little salty but good. The bagel is chubby and cute and not flat. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you order one.

This is a little bagel shop that is convenient especially for SoMa/Mission Bay workers to pass by to pick up a quick breakfast or lunch. They have a variety of different types of bagels from onion, blueberry, asiago, jalapeño, etc. to go with creamy and airy spreads. If you’d want a little more, they do have bagel omelets(think bfast sandwich from McDonald’s but on a bagel) and bagel sandwiches on their menu. Additionally, they offer grilled sandwiches, salads, chips, fruit cups, yogurt parfaits and some pastry goods. There is also a fridge with plenty of drink options to go with your bagel or even pre-packaged spreads. If you need breakfast for the office or a meeting, they also cater which is convenient for companies nearby.

If you’ve read a previous post of mine you will already know that I have been on the search for a new bagel sandwich spot after my company moved it’s headquarters. In particular, a shop with lox sandwiches — and that I was recently burned by the terrible shop near my work that dared to pass off an everything bagel as multi grain as they did not carry multi grain. Well, I have found you sweet bagel shop. I have found you. We are going to make magic together. To emphasize just how serious bagel sandwiches are to me, I did about an hours worth of research on bagel shops nearby while on Caltrain yesterday. I found this gem on Unilocal and today I decided to veer off my walk route after getting off Caltrain to try this place out. I ordered the lox on whole wheat as well as a sausage, egg and cheese on wheat sandwich(for lunch) all for about $ 10. Although there was a line, it went by so quick. 2 – 3 minutes tops from when you step into the store and leave with your order. The cashier lady was also very nice. The turnaround time is amazing and… The lox bagel is PERFECT. I could not be happier. There is not much I can say besides that. Yes it does get a bit messy like some Unilocalers might say but it’s got cream cheese in it. Any sandwich with any slippery substance will get messy. It’s the way God intended it. You just have to scoop it back into your mouth and keep trucking! This place provides an abundant amount of napkins anyways. One thing to note though is yes they do microwave their eggs like many Unilocalers have complained about. However you may also have notice that a lot of Unilocalers also comment on how fluffy the eggs are. Microwaving eggs is not actually bad guys. The microwave is completely sanitary and safe. It is also the fastest way to get fluffy ass eggs and also reduces the need to use oil to cook eggs in the traditional pan route. Just saying.
