3.5, but I’ll round up since it’s a convenient lunch option. SF burritos pale in comparison to Oakland ‘rritos, and this isn’t up to par with La Taqueria or El Farolito. But it’s not bad by any means, they’re right out of the BART station, right on Market where tons of people work, and the line moves quickly during the lunch rush. There’s an ATM inside in case you forget cash and my super alpastor burrito is always way too much food for me. My vegetarian coworker also raves about their veggie burrito as well. Salsa leaves a bit to be desired. It’s on Market so there’s sketch people outside. But for a quick lunch fix, Taqueria Cancun is one of my top options.

Whoa this place was good. I got just one chicken taco, and it was so flavorful. Even though I asked for no spice, it was still really spicy, but in a good way. Also, there was so much chicken, that there was no way I’d be able to pick it up and eat it as a taco. It also comes with free chips and green and red salsa! The two reasons why I took off one star is that the prices are pretty steep($ 3 for one taco), and the location is in a pretty sketch part of town. Or at least, as someone who’s from out of town, that’s the vibe I got walking to it. I’m sure this wouldn’t be a problem in the day, but I was getting a late night snack, and I definitely felt like I had to pick up my walking pace a little.

I feel like I should add a star for this place being one of the few places that actually makes their veggie burritos so they are warm all the way through but I still have trouble giving them all five stars because they’re like 4, maybe four and a half on a good day. However, I’ve had so many veggie burritos that have insides that are about the temperature of those Japanese style ice cream crêpe things I’ve started to come here more. This place has gotten more expensive though. It’s kind of hitting it’s price point… too much more expensive and I’ll be making my own veggie burritos. Maybe it was the ~$ 8 for a burrito containing nothing but cheese, veggies, and beans that kept me from the 5th star. But I suppose with the recent increase in cost of doing business in Mid Market it’s not so bad. If you’re from LA or much of SoCal, really, you may be disappointed. Most of this city’s taqueria faire will disappoint you. You’re a tough(and by «tough» I mean in the most loving way«spoiled») crowd.(May I suggest some Japanese food— particularly sushi— if you’re looking for something you just can’t get better in LA?) But for you NorCal folks this place is pretty good. If you’re vegetarian you should go here because you’re food will be warm and yummy. If you’re super strict vegan or «it can’t touch any meat ever» vegetarian this isn’t the place. But I’ve never gotten anything with large stray chunks of meat in it here(another problem elsewhere)… so win?! Yes, the area is still sketchy at night. But I’m from here and you aren’t likely to get murdered on 6th Street at night(anymore). If you’re uncomfortable, hey, it’s gentrification… nobody forced you to come here. You may feel uncomfortable if you’re not from the area but these guys have worked here forever and can hold down the place fine, even if the clientele can get a bit«interesting».

it’s funny reading all of these reviews on this rat hole. this taqueria is GROSS! filthy inside, sketchy people outside, and below average mexican food. It makes me thankful I live in Oakland where delicious, real mexican food can be found.

Really good value for your money. Burritos are gigantic and taste great. Service is standard, and pretty quick if you’re on the go. 50⁄50 chance you’ll have a bench to sit at depending on when you go. A hole in the wall that shouldn’t disappoint, and probably your best second choice if you had to make one. Cash only, too.

I just wanted nachos. And this is close to the mall so I thought why not. I walked past it at first because it’s such a small store. The inside is small, but I wasn’t expecting much to begin with. I wouldn’t call it clean… But it’s not the worse I’ve been to. They don’t accept credit card, I had to use their atm machine but honestly it felt so sketchy. I ordered super nachos without meat and it was super cheap! Under 9 dollars total. And a good portion size. The cashier was really nice and they made the food very quickly. There was this other customer in the store that kept trying to take my food? But the cashier kept telling her it’s not hers… As soon as I got my food I zoomed right out of there because even just one block away from Westfield is not somewhere I like to be. The nachos were yummy, worth the price. It wasn’t anything spectacular, rather just a very average place to go when the Mexican cravings hit. I guess the whole experience was just really uncomfortable to me, which is something I never thought could affect me so harshly. But i just didn’t want to be in there.

I didn’t find this place to hold up to its Unilocal reviews(some of you fooled me). In my opinion the price did not match the flavor. The food is bland, soggy, and the hot sauce is not fire. I’m not much for quantity but more about the quality and taste. SF doesn’t have much options so I guess if you have some really(really) huge cravings, go here.

The food is straight disgusting. I’m so mad I wasted my time and money on food from here. My big burrito taste like dish water. Looks pretty but that’s about it. I’m so disgusted.

You seriously need to go this place, Just look at that amazing Burrito Mojado, hands down the best Mexican food I’ve ever had in my life. Although the location might not be the best, this place has amazing food, if you are in San Francisco and you love Mexican food you MUSTTRY this place

I love Mexican food and Taqueria Cancun has had one of the best burritos I have had in San Francisco so far(if not the best). I am not a fan of rice and beans and what not on my burrito so I get mine with 3 ingredients: carnitas, avocado, and cheese. So. Freaking. Good. The burrito is probably not healthy at all, but it sure is delicious. Carnitas have been super tasty and nicely cooked, the avocado adds a little creaminess, and the cheese ties it all together. Their tortillas are also quite good, really sauce and they hold the burrito together well so it doesn’t fall apart and make a mess. The food here is cheap too(the super burrito which has everything I mentioned plus rice, beans, onions, and salsa) is under $ 8 and comes with chips and salsa. They have been fairly busy when I’ve been there, but not to the point where you have to wait a long time and I have usually seen some seats available. Cash only but there’s an ATM inside(with a $ 2 fee). Pro tip: get food here, and then take it around the corner to Showdown Bar to eat and grab a beer.

Well, it was cleaner than expected based on their street sign at least. For a taqueria, this place is pretty overpriced: a quesadilla cost $ 8(and that was their«medium» level quesadilla). They do make everything fresh, but $ 8 got me some cheese, sliced meat, and a tortilla. I guess in SF you pay a premium even at a taqueria?(Probably not their fault as I imagine their rent is sky high…) They are, however, relatively speedy(looking at you Show Dogs…) and conveniently located by the SHN Golden Gate Theater if one needs a bite before a show(as we did). There are a few benches inside, otherwise this is a grab and go place. We pretty much came here out of desperation for needing something to eat quickly before the show, and at that price point, probably wouldn’t come back otherwise.

I had high hopes for this place. It was okay. We got breakfast burritos here the other day and paid extra($ 1.50?) for the super. Each burrito was $ 8.50 before tax. I asked for no sour cream and no rice, and instead got sour cream and no beans(I wanted beans!!). If they can’t handle modifications, they should say so. Also, the burritos with special requests were significantly smaller than the ones without modifications. Some places seem to make up for it by giving a little more of the other ingredients, but not this place — even if you pay for the super size. Other than that, it was a good breakfast burrito, but not my favorite. Hard to say though, because every bite had the gross melted sour cream that I asked them to leave out. I did like that it came with avocado.

I’ve always really liked Cancun burritos(at least from the 19th& Mission location) and thought I’d stop into the Market location for a quick bite. All i had on me was a $ 10 bill. Perfect. One super burrito coming up, right? Wrong. The bill was a little torn(not all the way through, just a rip). The guy who took my order looks at it, then waves me off and turns away muttering«I don’t have tape.» WTF? It’s just a little ripped. I try to explain to him that the bill is perfectly legal tender but he just keeps repeating«I don’t have tape.» Well, I’m starving, so I head out and up to the Blick art store on the next block. They have tape. I tape up the bill and head back. Dude behind the counter ignores me, serves a few other customers, then looks at me like he’s never seen me before. «Yes?» «I’d like to re-order my pollo asado super burrito, black beans.» He looks at the bill and shakes his head. There is a little tear in the corner — one of the numeral 10s is partially missing. He says he can’t take it. «My boss doesn’t let me.» Can kinda tell he’s enjoying this. WT ever-loving F??? I went to Castillo on Mason. Lovely people and great burritos. Don’t think I’ll ever patronize Cancun again. Talk about leaving a bad taste in the mouth. Major jerks at this location. Soured me on the whole place.

I have passed this little shop so many time before so I figured I would give it a shot. It has all the potential to be a great hidden gem as it is tucked away in a transitional area of mid-market. I had the super burrito which was about $ 10, it was massive but really lacked flavor. Very disapointed on the taste and will not be back.

Cancun does the basics, but it brings the Mission to 6th and Market for all of us workers in SoMa. The space is super small, but the workers are really, really nice, and the burritos are exactly how you would expect them to be. Nothing exception, but a solid staple.

These burritos are humongous and amazing. Good stuff overall. I like the location, even if it’s a bit smallish. Narrow is probably a better description. I like that the prices are reasonable(for San Francisco) and the place has a family-owned-diner sort of feel. Not sure if that’s actually the case, but the stuff is good. All kinds of people here, from immigrants to urban hipsters.

Oh my. Oh my, oh my. This place was amazing. We ate here twice during GDC, it was on the short walk between our hotel and the Moscone Centre, and we were utterly satisfied each time. I had both the veggie burrito, and the beef mojado(self-styled«wetback burrito») which was humongous and utterly delicious. The interior is cramped and hot, which I couldn’t really care less about, but some might, so if you are then I recommend using this as a take-out. Despite being tight we never had an issue with finding a seat nor felt rushed to get up and go immediately after finishing. The dishes were served with some nachos(which were pretty good) and a couple of great tasting salsas. Overall I can hardly recommend this place more, if you’re in mid-market and fancy a treat then give it a go!

Coming from AZ I have been somewhat spoiled with mexican food. I’ve had it all– and Taqueria Cancun unfortunately did not satisfy. I live/work in twitterloin so exterior appearances do not phase me, neither did the trash on the floor under the tables or the unclean tables. I had my mind set on some nachos. I ordered the super nachos with chorizo and a super quesadilla with chicken. My total came to $ 19.55, which I happily forked over in anticipation of my meal. What I got was a sad mess of «mexican food” — They give you a basket of cold stale tortilla chips and two small salsa containers(each about 2oz) and there is no salsa bar. Soon my food came up and as soon as I started eating my nachos I noticed they forgot the chorizo, but the nachos were so nasty I did not even bother to tell them. The nachos were soggy as soon as I started eating because they were completely covered in watery sour cream, I had to dig for chips that actually had cheese on it(it had mostly beans) and the only thing I ended up enjoying was the whole slices of avocado. My super quesadilla was a similar experience, while it could have been good it was also soaked in the watery sour cream mess that literally made the whole thing soggy. Skip this place–

I found Taqueria Cancun using my Unilocal app(searching for burritos while visiting San Fran). It was located near my hotel in Union Square, so I walked over for a quick meal. The restaurant is really small and easy to miss. There are a few tables inside but it’s more of a takeout spot. I ordered a chicken super burrito with no beans(chicken, cheese, salsa, cilantro, sour cream, guacamole, & rice). Taqueria Cancun burritos come with a side of chips & salsa/Verde. I thought the burrito was tasty and filling. I’m a tall guy and I was stuffed after eating my burrito. All of the ingredients blended well together. Prices were reasonable for most items. Service was fast and food comes out hot. Taqueria Cancun is a good choice for burritos in Union Square. I give Taqueria Cancun a 3.5 rating. CASHONLY!!! An ATM machine is located inside the restaurant.
