A-Ok. 3.5 stars! Last night I came here to try this new roaming sushi vendor(Ichi Sushi was the first one 2 yrs. ago), that currently operates at The Corner(18th& Mission) a venue for pop-up vendors(Ken Ken ramen on Thu., Cathead’s BBQ on Sat, etc.), every Wednesday 6pm-10pm. The short menu includes a handful of choices for each category: Americanized sushi rolls($ 5.75-$ 9.95), nigiri(2 pieces) and maki(6 pieces) sushi($ 2.50-$ 3.95), and sashimi($ 9.25−13.50, per 5 slices). I noticed a few value priced combos(4 – 5 nigiri sushi + 1 roll) for $ 11.95-$ 12.95, but not sure what choices u get. And unlike Ichi Sushi there’s no hot food options, other than a bowl of miso soup($ 3.50). The location was a cozy bar, before they discontinued their own kitchen service and now features a weekly rotating cast of different chefs. It’s a pleasant place to get drinks and share some food while conversing with friends. I got a caterpillar roll($ 9.95) and a tamago nigiri($ 2.75), both were decent, well made and tasted good. Don’t expect Omakase or anything fancy, it’s not that kind of place. Not many choices either, literally there’s only 4 fish and 5 shellfish types. Just basic stuff u find at most American sushi restaurants. Service was great that night, sushi chef Miguel was super friendly and happy to be making sushi. At this time it’s CASH only. The ironic name and the fact that small businesses like this one often struggle to succeed, remind me of this Barbara Streisand song.
