Not as good as used to be. Happy hour and lunch special have gone up in price. I think they could still do a OK business, if they were more inventive with specials and were more enthusiastic about their product.

Mediocre sushi, at best. The fish was barely ok, definitely not the freshest I’ve ever had. Portion sizes were ok, but a bit small for the prices charged. Given the location I understand the prices might be a wee bit on the high side, but I expected better ingredients to be used, especially for sushi. I had ordered one of their sushi lunch specials. Perhaps the fish is better during their happy hours? Or I was there during an off day? Overall the food is 1 star, but the service was pretty attentive and helpful, which bumps this review to 2 stars. They offered to refill my teacup, even after I paid my bill and checked in one me a few times to make sure I didn’t need anything and even though they were pretty busy.

Meh is about right. I havent been here for their happy hour. But during their regular hours, the sushi is OK. It doesnt taste that fresh and the ambience of the food court is terrible. I would return if I were really hungry after shopping all day inside macys and did not want to venture outside of macys for some reason. STRANGEBEHAVIOR! Its worth trying!

I’m going to be honest this place is not bad to grab a quick bite of sushi with some cold beer while you ar shopoping at this lovely Macy’s. Obvi I don’t go to the cellar just for the sushi but if you look around they don’t offer too many food options… there’s some ice cream, a cookie shop, some express salad and sandwich to go place all cafeteria style. Why not sit at the bar and watch the sush“chefs” roll some goodness? Not bad.

File this under outdated. The sushi is still OK, but the happy hour special has changed. Instead of half-price rolls, you get a happy hour menu, which looks to be just a buck or two off the regular price. Sorry, Macy’s, but for a $ 40 tab, the Mr. and I are going to eat our sushi somewhere without fluorescent lighting and muzak.

Oh man, I wish I had the same good experience as the other people who have eaten at this Macy’s Sushi Island. I love sushi, but out of habit kept defaulting to Wolfgang Puck’s after entering the food court area. Finally, one day I remembered how I wanted to try the sushi place. My boyfriend and I don’t really do much shopping at Macy’s, but instead come directly to the food court when we’re shopping downtown because it’s pretty affordable, there are always tables, and sometimes it makes for some good people watching. Anyway, I had to wait a really long time for my spider roll and salmon nigiri. My boyfriend had gotten a Puck’s sandwich and salad, and was almost done with the sandwich by the time I got my food. The spider roll was ok I guess, nothing really bad to say about it, but the salmon had that telltale too-orange and almost tight and shiny around the edges look. Regrettably, I didn’t really pay mind to that until I put a piece in my mouth, and noticed it had a sort of tube-sock odor and undertaste. YUCK! I will never eat at Macy’s sushi again, UNLESS maybe it is to get something really popular that I know they must go through a lot of and have to keep restocking, like a spicy tuna roll, at happy hour. But I don’t really like those rolls so much, and there’s nothing worse than putting spoiled-ish fish that you paid good money and waited 15 minutes for in your mouth! Boo.

This is a great choice if you’re looking to breeze in for some decent, cheap sushi downtown. The 5-close happy hour is a steal, especially during the week. I felt bad for a poor Aussie tourist the last time I was here: Aussie: May I have a Budweiser? Sushi Chef: No! No Budweiswer here!(Points to bottles displayed) Aussie: Ok, may I try a hot Sake? Sushi Chef: No, we’re all out. Aussie: Alright, may I have a Sierra Nevada? Sushi Chef: NO! No more Sierra Nevada here! Aussie: Jeez, alright, may I have a Corona? Sushi Chef: Yes(Hands him bottle) Sushi Chef: Oh, I’m sorry, you wanted me to OPEN if for you. Some people carry openers on their key rings and want to open it themselves. Aussie: May I have a lime? Sushi Chef: NO! ALLOUT! We do have lemon, though. Lolz

Really?! Reeeally!!! Spicy tuna roll is all I have to say. This place is cheap, good, and in the basement of Macy’s!!! I heart this random sushi 80’s throwback wonderland. Yum!

hooray for the happy hour! 5 pm — closing time.(M-F, i think?) the stuff is decent. i’ve had better sushi… and i’ve had worse too. the unagi don is pretty good. not sure if it’s worth the 9.99 bucks. but when i’m hungry, i’ll take it. as far as the main chef… he’s pretty nice. to me, at least…

Sushi with an attitude. Poor fish quality and a long wait for little rolls. The only reason to go is if you must have sushi and are there during happy hour(5pm to close weeknights). Go to Bristol Farms for all other sushi desires in Union Square.

The sushi is good, the rolls are especially yummy during Happy Hour, when they are ½ off. Yes, the main chef can be «abrupt» and as other reviewers wrote, you have to take it with a grain of salt. It isn’t personal.

Hungry after a long day of shopping? Stop by this sushi place in the food court area of Macy’s and enjoy some half off happy hour specials. Small pieces, but for the happy hour price, they’re worth it — not so much at full price. The service is friendly and pretty quick. Good selection of the more popular rolls and the basics. Good for a quick recharge before more shopping!

Not the best, not the worse, but everytime I go I have a grand old time… why… because I know that people think the chef is condescending and he is… I think it is funny to watch… the sushi is not bad for what you are paying… and I always enjoy my conversations with the other staff who are really nice… well, they are to me! Don’t go expecting something out of the ordinary… it is what it is… you are getting what you paid for… It is quick and at a good price… so… 3 stars for you… 1 actually for the entretainment value of the chef and seeing how others react to him… What can I say… I am a people watcher!

Half price sushi rolls? Count me in. Super spicy tuna rolls for like 2 bucks didn’t taste half bad so I thought I was getting a pretty good deal. Also the little bottles of Domaine Chandon Brut were an excellent cap to a long day of Union Sq. shopping. Diamond in the rough!

After a late night shopping trip, ventured to the food court area to find some eats. Came upon the half price sushi till 8pm and decided to grab some rolls. There weren’t very tasty and consisted of more rice than fish. Sigh, just not a great sushi place eventho it’s convenient. Convenience and sushi just don’t go hand-in-hand.

Moderately priced and the waiters can be rude but I am a spicy tuna roll connoisseur so if the sushi is good then I’ll come back. I liked their sushi so I guess that means I’ll be coming back… not anytime soon but when I’m in the area and hungry after a day of walking around and shopping at Macy’s – I’m there!

I guess I have to give this place a one because I plan never to eat there again. The sushi chef’s condescending, arrogant attitude(and scowl) were reason enough to leave. I’m surprised I was able to eat the mediocre sushi sitting at the bar right in front of him. It would be one thing if he was an ass but hustling but the one sushi plate I saw him make(with 4 rolls) took him over a half hour. Is it right to see such a confused look from the chef every ten seconds? Rolls ½ off — good. Customer service — bad.

I think, technically speaking, the sushi place at macy’s is part of the Wolfgang Puck express outfit, but I felt it fitting to give them a listing all to themselves. Don’t let the fact that it’s in the basement of Macy’s fool you, they actually have pretty decent sushi… well, at least their rolls are good. The spicy tuna is a must-have. The prices are about the same as the average sushi place, EXCEPT if you go after 5 on a weekday. That’s when they have almost all the rolls for half price. You can have a very filling dinner for 2 for about 25 bucks — 30 if you want some sake. And I’ve only gone there for an afterwork dinner, so I don’t know how it is during the day time, but it’s usually not that crowded in the evenings. So good, cheap and uncrowded. Check it out.
