Subway

I need to cater some food for a meeting next week, and came here trying to get a menu and an info on the catering menu and procedure. First of all, though I work just across the street this Subway is located, I never come here or any Subway for lunch. So today, I only came here to get an info on the catering menu for my meeting, though I don’t expect a good service at this type of place, I was shocked that they don’t even have a print out menu when I asked for it. They gave me a catering form that seems to have been taken out of recycling bin — yikes!
The guy I talked to, was not very helpful; he did not offer help/​suggestion. When I ask how advanced I need to order, he just told me to just come in early before lunch. Hah?!! So, what’s catering form is for if I just need to show up like everybody else and stand in line to order bunch of sandwiches? If I wasn’t requested to order food from this facility, I personally wouldn’t come here and have my lunch here. And worst, there is a older gentleman coming to me and telling me that I can have half of this sandwiches to save me some money? I didn’t even know what to think then. Now that I thought about it again… Ewee. I may not be rich, but, do I look that poor to him? This is so sad? Maybe because he saw me talking to the guy working there trying to get an info he translated in his old bloody mind that I was begging for a sandwich???
Uggh! I would never set my foot here again. Again, bloody ugh!

No parking for free around here. You’ve gotta be real lucky if you find any parking at all.

It’s subway. If you’ve been to one subway you know what to expect.
If you haven’t then pick a bread, pick them size. The type of sandwich. I personally like the Italian bread foot long chicken sandwich.

I’ve been coming to this subway for years, as I do a lot of work at the UCSF parnassus campus. Overall, they do a pretty good job and are friendly. They give an ample amount of veggies on your sandwich.
I don’t like that they charge for toasting the bread, and paper bags. But other than that, they are a good choice for lunch.
My one concern is that they don’t change their gloves as often as they should. I would feel much better going here/​any subway if I saw them put on a new pair of gloves for making sandwiches, especially after cleaning the counter or handling the cash register.

Shitty service. First time since I’ve gone to Subway that the guy didn’t ask if I wanted salt and pepper but wrapped the sub without asking.
I planned on eating in but the other employee was mopping the floor and told me they were getting ready to close up so I couldn’t sit down … Even though it’s still open for another45 minutes!

Subway is good straightforward food, nothing gourmet. We stopped in here for breakfast after my appointment across the street as I was anxious to try one of their breakfast sandwiches. It is a small location in UCSF Medical Center’s Mulberry Union Building which shares the floor with other restaurants. The employees are nice and service efficient. The black forest ham, egg (regular eggs,) & cheese on flat bread is wonderful with tender ham, fresh eggs, and melted American cheese with light flat bread that is perfect toasted. Round it off with an orange juice and you will not be disappointed. Of course, reasonable prices are a plus. Keep up the good work guys.

First off, I actually like Subway. This Subway in the UCSF complex was terrible. It was 4:10 PM and we were told that they were basically out bread, (they had only three (3) 6″ rolls) lettuce, and some cheese. Seriously? Were they out, or just didn’t feel like «baking» any? They looked to be more concerned with their 5:00 close time than customer service. The person behind the counter became quite annoyed by my asking nicely (for the third time) for extra hot peppers and made a big drama of the deal. He then completely overdosed the sandwich with mustard and mayo. my normally laid back self was tempted to say something, but I didn’t — with no more bread, he couldn’t fix it by making another… I just wonder what the owner of the shop would think about having 10 – 15 customers walk out because there was no more bread?
The sandwich was edible (I was starved after spending all day with a family member in the hospital) but the customer service was really poor.

I love this subway! Not only is it conveniently located across from work, they always have the best deals! This month, two of the 6inch subs (cold cut combo & meatball marinara) are only $ 2 each! Super cheap for a place that piles on vegetables like there’s no tomorrow. The employees are also very friendly & make sandwiches quickly. The vegetables also look very fresh. I’ve been to other subways & sometimes their veggies don’t look very appetizing. With this subway, I know they make sure they keep them well refrigerated and replace them if they look spoiled or have expired.
If you choose to toast your sub, know that there’s an extra charge added to it. There’s also an extra charge if you decide to dine in. Other than that, their service is great & I really like coming to this one. Not to mention, their dining area, although cold, has a spectacular view of the Golden Gate Bridge on those non-​foggy days.

This is a standard Subway on the basement floor of Millberry Union at UCSF, which I frequent during my lunch breaks. The employees are friendly, but they charge extra to toast your sandwich (do all Subways do that?). Their sandwiches are typical Subway sandwiches. My favorite bread to get is either honey oat or flatbread. I don’t recommend getting an avocado sandwich here though. Not sure if I was just unlucky, but my avocado had warm, mushy consistency. It was not very enjoyable to eat, but everything else was OK.

This is a subway, pretty standard as far as the food goes. But I frequent this store when I am done work in the morning and the employees are always welcoming and they don’t look miserable to be there like many of the other franchises.
Since I am usually there at 8am after night shift, I’ve never encountered the long lines that others have complained about. But I can say their breakfast sandwiches hit the spot after a long night of work!

I come here only due to its convenience when I’m around the vicinity. Their customer service needs some checking.

This place is basically like any other subway I have ever been to. The workers are decent though and they actually listen to your orders. I have been getting salads lately and I ask them to replace the lettuce base with spinach and they do it for you.
Unfortunately, when it comes down to lunch time on a weekday (and when school is in session), it is probably the busiest Subway I have ever been to and the line is out the door and the wait can be quite long if you’re short on time.

I eat here quite often because there are not many choices up on the hill at UCSF. I don’t really have time to run anywhere else so this is often my go-​to spot. Sadly the sandwiches don’t measure up. Often they under filled with ingredients so you end up eating a lot of plain bread.
Don’t get your sandwich toasted, it’ll cost you extra.
Overall, stop skimping on the toppings and charging for toasting that is standard at all sub sandwich joints.

Friendly service. Sandwiches need TLC. Yes, I know this is a chain Subway at a hospital, but I often come here for a quick and cheap lunch sandwich, so I know that food quality has decreased here. Workers put far less toppings on sandwiches at this location compared to other Subway locations. When I order a foot-​long, don’t give me less on my sandwich as though it’s a 6-​inch. Don’t charge me extra when I ask for more than three pieces of green peppers or a 5^th scoop of tuna so that it covers all of the bread, not just ¾. I don’t want to eat only bread. Fill it up. Stop being stingy. Especially when I know the bread was not made fresh that morning.

I go here because we don’t have many choices in order to get and finish lunch in 15 min. I tried the breakfast once and it was one of the worst english muffin I have had. The sandwiches are as good as regular Subs. But can you explain why you need to charge extras to toast the bread?

I choice to go here for the fact that they are quick at making sandwiches. Price and choice of food is the same at any subway. but the people where will kick it up when there is a long line waiting.

Subway doesn’t get any better than this. The one inside UCSF makes your sandwiches super quick and super good. Being in the hospital, you can expect everything to be really sanitary. The staff is very friendly and they make the sandwiches just the way you like it — like any other Subway, but this one is just GOOD.

I go here a few days a week, and this is definitely one of the better Subways out there. Yes, I know that is not saying much. It’s like coming «top out of the kids that failed». This 4 star rating is RELATIVE TO OTHER SUBWAYS. If I was rating it on a level playing field, it would probably get 2 stars, and that would be charitable.
But because of the massive volume, everything is usually pretty fresh (by Subway standards). The people that work here are friendly and extremely efficient. A line of 20 people is nothing to fear, you will have your sandwich in 5 minutes.
Of course, it’s still Subway. How do they manage to remove all the taste from every item? It’s quite miraculous. But it’s $ 5, and it’s healthy.

Why does Subway have sick employees making sandwiches all the time? One time the person was so out of it he wiped his running nose with his gloved hands right in front of me and continued making the sandwich (this was a while ago). I’ve seen sick employees making my sandwiches not only here but in LA (used to be a big fan of Subway’s veggie sandwich, eating it all the way while driving from SF to LA). Needless to say I don’t go to any Subway anymore.

10/​21/​2008 update. Hands down the best subway in the city. Staff is always friendly and super nice. They are very generous with their toppings, if you ask for extra veggies they’ll give you more, unlike the san bruno ave location where they give you 2 of everything (pickles, olives peppers) for a whole footlong.

Pretty much the cheapest food spot at UCSF. People go crazy for them $ 5 foot longs. During lunch hours, lines go all the way to the stairs, and you’ll end up standing in line for 15mins just for a sandwich. Not your favorite sandwich spot, but you still end up get a sandwich from them, so they must be doing something right.

Unless you really like Subway or are pressed for time, there are better sandwich shops not more than a few blocks away.
That said, I noticed nothing bad about the service. It has an unusually small eating area (but with a bit of a view, lol), but I’d recommend getting it to go and going upstairs where you can breath.
Due it’s small size I can imagine this place could be a real mess at peak times. It was fine when I was there, however.
