Pretty generic food but decent quality. They don’t really have any vegetarian options, and if you forget to request«no chicken» the alleged manager«Gabriella» will ask that you purchase a new salad. Oh, and no discount for no chicken– they’ll just pile on cheese despite being lactose-intolerant ;-) I’d rather eat at the mall food court.

What a huge salad!!! The Presidio is delicious. I’d come here for the salads. Sandwiches are ok but I prefer the sandwiches from The Sentinel. But great for groups!

If you’re in the mood for a sandwich or salad, skip Buckhorn Grill and San Francisco Soup Co, and come here instead. They have more local, seasonal ingredients, and you get way more bang for your buck. They have a really great selection of sandwiches, and about 4 different salads that you can order. I went for the Presidio salad($ 9.95), which had kale, almonds, roasted sweet potatoes, purple cauliflower, and parmesan cheese, and added rotisserie chicken(+$ 3). The salad can probably be split between two people — it’s huge, think Cheesecake Factory size. This is not your paltry $ 10 FiDi salad. I eat a lot, and I was starving and coming from a workout, and I couldn’t finish the salad in one sitting, and that’s saying a lot. Healthy, tasty, with quality ingredients, at reasonable prices and large portions — what more could you want? They have ample seating, with nice, solid wood tables, and you can order at the counter or order via a QR code that you scan at the table. I was even able to snag the WiFi from the Metreon and knock out a little bit of work while eating(shhh.) I’d definitely come back here if I’m in Union Square and in search of a good sandwich or salad. I wouldn’t say it’s in my top 3 or 5 salad places in all of SF, but certainly one of the best options if you’re in Union Square and craving something healthy and filling. Can’t wait to come back and try more flavors next time I’m shopping in the area.

I had the bbq chicken sandwich which in a very Californiaeque fashion came with avocado. It was cold by the time I got it but it was still pretty good. Will be back for sure.

Ah… where to start. Was working in the neighborhood and decided to grab a burger to go. Tuesday afternoon, about 1230. Long line at the register but an employee was also taking orders from folks using plastic, which surely helped. Was in and out in less than 15 minutes l. Noticed right away the prices where high but expected that. Ordered a classic burger med rare with bacon and a lemonade. My $ 8.95 burger and drink came to $ 15.65, including the bag. Was eating within 5 minutes. Must say the patty was very tasty and cooked perfectly. Vegs were fresh and crunchy. I gobbled it down. Was disappointed about the bacon though. Was only about 2⁄3 of one slice and cooked before 10 am. Couldn’t even find at first. That’s ok. Just save the $ 2 and don’t add it. Still tasty enough to make up for being shorted. The lemonade is definitely not«country time». Not to sweet and very refreshing. All in all a great but expensive meal. Employees were very nice. …refused a tip even. So let’s call it a $ 13 meal. Work in the area often, but will bring lunch if I can. A burger here is going to have to be a special treat. Saw several salads going out and must say they looked good too and were quite large. If you’re in the area and crave the beef on a bum or a meal sized salad, this would be a good spot to try.

A very crowded lunch place, conceptually ideal for take-out, but it took forever for them to even get salad orders to come out. The salads are ok. They are fresh and the portions are quite large, but again, fierce competition in the city, so you have to do better than just getting your hands on good ingredients. The combination of veggies and the salad dressing really just didn’t do it for me – it wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t particularly good. Oh, and with that price, I was really expecting it to be at least on par with some of the other salad places I liked. These days it just seems like everything in SF is super expensive — perhaps the rent is getting outrageously high?

Deluxe Burger was pretty good, but the salad looked even better. Probably should have gotten that instead. Was not worth it for the $ 3 fries. The burger was also pretty expensive and the serving was small. After I finished my burger and fries, I was ready to have a 2nd meal. Ended up getting a crêpe next door at moolicious and I was finally full enough to function.

You San Franciscans are so spoiled that you don’t even know how good you’ve got it! I wish we had a Split Bread in my hometown of Honolulu, Hawaii! Fantastic burgers, hand cut fries, hearty salads, giant pickles and cookies?! If this was a man, he’d be pretty much perfect. Oh did I mention it’s fast casual? Like I said, pretty much perfect. When you order I recommend grabbing a burger, a salad and splitting them with 1 – 2 friends. There’s no way I could have eaten an entire burger by myself and the after lunch food coma would have been ugly. The line to order moved swiftly, our food came out quickly and I enjoyed our dining experience. It wasn’t terribly busy so we easily found a big table for our lunch group and I gasped when I saw the purse hooks. Oh dear Split Bread, too bad you’re a restaurant and not a guy. We’d definitely be an item in no time.

I got take out here on a Saturday. Their online order form is easy to use and straightforward. They even have an option to pick up ASAP or any time later in the day. I have a nut allergy, so I was happy to see that they even have an option to take out specific ingredients(almonds in this case). I ordered the Presidio salad and liked it. I felt healthy because it had baby kale. There was a mustard vinaigrette that was delicious and went well with the rest of the salad. The chicken in the salad was delicious, well seasoned, and flavorful. This is the kind of chicken you don’t expect to be in your salad. I could’ve eaten the chicken by itself and been happy. The salad also has roasted cauliflower, which I thought was a nice touch, since I like cauliflower. Overall, I liked the salad, and it was a decent portion size. But it’s a quite a pricey salad for me.

3.5÷5 stars Very slow, so if you’re in a rush during your lunch break, allocate at least 15 minutes from the time you order to receiving your order.(This was when there was only one person in front of me!) Ordered: No. 66 Crispy chicken sandwich: 4⁄5 pretty delicious Split cob salad: 3.5÷5 good, but nothing special Hand cut french fries: 2.5÷5 blah, not that good. Very similar to in-n-out fries, but I would skip next time. I would stick to their sandwiches.

I loved this place! It’s in a great location right outside the Metreon. The Heirloom Tomato Sandwich was amazing! They even offer GLUTENFREE buns and bread on everything! Super friendly and helpful service too! I have no complaints about this place! Don’t miss the«Split Fries» with fresh herbs and shaved parmesan! Now I need to go run a billion miles to burn this dinner off…

TL;DR: Local lunch spot, upscale sandwiches and salads. Usually pretty busy, but good food for the price. I’ve been to this establishment twice for lunch, as it is reasonable close to my office. Its close to the downtown area, and is frequented by the many tech workers of the area. They have a pretty good menu, offering a diverse group of sandwiches, burgers and salads, though I’ve ordered the same thing both times I’ve been here. I’ve opted for the porchetta sandwich, as the place I used to get them is a little bit more of a hike now for me for work and I’m looking for a good spot to replace it with. Their offering is entirely decent(crisp roll, onion jam, field greens with cracklins and the meat), though sometimes can be a bit salt/fat heavy which masks some of the other flavors. I’ve seen coworkers enjoy salads and burgers their with much gusto, so apparently they are at least pretty good at those as well. Fairly decent amount of seating inside, staff promptly cleans and clears tables during the rush and keeps the traffic flowing. I’ve eaten there once, and ambled over to the park another time, which is only a few blocks away and is also a favorite place for people to eat on their lunch break. I will be back again, though I wouldn’t call this place a must have or anything. Good, not great, but certainly not bad.

I really like Split Bread, and this location in particular. The staff is suer friendly and quick, the place is very clean and has plenty of seating, and the feed is really good. My favorite? The Split Cobb — it’s satisfying and delicious. It’s also the little things that count — the hooks for your bag on each table, the efficiency of the ordering process, even the pleasant and stylish décor. Lunch can be a scene in SoMa, so when a place like Split Bread makes it as quick, tasty and pleasant as they do, I can’t find a reason not to keep returning. I know it’s not exactly fine dining or knock-your-socks-off fare, but it is fresh, tasty and quick. For what it is, Split Bread is a winner. Five stars!

Awww, I think I ordered the wrong thing! After a week full of consuming massive amounts of(great) but not the healthiest of foods, I was happy to check out one of the huge salads from Split.(Even though my heart was longing for those burger and fries) my stomach and head knew better. I went with the Kale Caesar(so 2014, I’m told, LOL) but I do still love kale, and a group of us ordered, and it was out in a flash. Warning! If sitting outside on a windy day, some of that parmesan cheese is going to take flight, so be prepared! As I mentioned, the salad portion was of a good size, the dressing, crotons and cheese were fine, but I do kinda wish they had taken off the stems of the kale, but that’s getting pretty nit-picky. Solid 3.5 but I’ll round up to 4, just because a taste of one of the parmesan fries was yummy, and the longing for one of those burgers is all on me.

It’s really refreshing to find somewhere that does sandwiches and salads so well. Normally I’d go for a burger for every meal but I was being healthy… ugh, I know… so I went with a salad. I stuck with the Kale caesar which is everything that it lives up to be. Kale lettuce with caesar dressing. It was pretty simple but that’s wall I was looking for and it did the job. The salad was tossed perfectly and had the perfect amount of dressing. It doesn’t sound as exciting as Bacon Avocado Burger but it works! ++For plenty o’ seating and fast service!

Just don’t know what is so special about this place?! Alright — I must have ordered the worst tasting sandwich on the menu or that the cook was out sick because my sandwich — #36 Crispy eggplant was really disgusting. It looked good at a distance but OMG, the breading of my eggplant slices were about 1 inch thick each and there were 3 slices drenched in grease. what made it worse was that the ciabatta bread was already very thick and doughy to begin with and then you got another 3 inches of soggy breading from the fried eggplant. It was soggy and not much flavor. It was difficult to eat, both logistics and taste-wise. Also the fries were pretty plain and standard. I hate to say this but it was the worst sandwich I have ever eaten.

I’ve been to Spilt Bread quite a few times and for the most part they’ve delivered on some really solid sandwiches. It’s become one of my go-to lunch options before or after watching a movie at Metreon. Before we get in to the food, the very interesting thing about Split Bread which every other reviewer has mentioned is that they only take credit cards for payment. Very unusual, so if you don’t carry any form of credit card with you, then unfortunately you won’t be able to dine here. Here’s a short roundup of some sandwiches I’ve had: No. 07 Pulled Rotisserie Chicken — Spit roasted pulled chicken, walnut and currant purée aioli, shaved apple, cheddar cheese, pickled onion, baby arugula on toasted ciabatta This is pretty much their signature sandwich and is probably my favorite sandwich here. Seriously, when you see the rows of chicken rolling in their huge rotisserie oven in the back, you have to order this sandwich! There’s a lot going on with this sandwich, but the toppings don’t take anything away from the chicken which flavor totally shines. I’ve also tried a pair of Porchetta sandwiches as well: No. 10 Rotisserie Porchetta — Spit roasted porchetta, crispy cracklings, balsamic onion marmalade, arugula on toasted ciabatta This was their version of the famous Roli Roti sandwich, and they actually do a decent job, but I still prefer Roli Roti’s better. Still a decent option if you’re in the mood for it and don’t want to trek over to the Ferry Building. No. 51 Porchetta«Cuban» and Edamame & Quinoa Salad – Spit roasted pork belly ‘Cuban’, smoked duroc ham, swiss cheese, house pickles, split mustard on griddled ciabatta This was a very tasty interpretation of the Cubano. Wish it had a little more pork but it’s a solid sandwich. The Quinoa Salad is a very good side dish and it’s loaded. Unfortunately not every sandwich there worked for me: No. 00 Short Rib Muffin — Braised short rib, sharp cheddar, shredded lettuce, house pickles, Split Sauce on a toasted English muffin This was Split Bread’s take on the Big Mac. The short rib was dry for me and I wasn’t too big on the muffin taste with the short rib. Maybe perhaps it would’ve been better with their ciabatta roll. That’s basically a small roundup of what sandwiches I’ve had at Split Bread. Their sandwiches do change from time to time with regards to menu item numbers, ingredient tweaks or completely new sandwiches. They still have a bunch of sandwiches that I’d like to try like their Crispy Chicken and Crispy Chicken Parmesan, and I definitely would like to try their burgers which I’ve heard are pretty good as well. So if you’re around the Metreon area and have a craving for some solid artisanal sandwiches, and short in cash, Split Bread is a good option to consider.

We ordered from Split for a work lunch last week and I was super excited to try this SOMA lunchtime staple for the first time until I realized that I’d totally already eaten here before and somehow let it completely escape me that they make a pretty perfect and plentiful order of parmesan fries until after I’d already placed my order. Damn, damn, damn. Luckily not all was lost because the #99 roasted maitake mushroom and cauliflower ‘grilled cheese’, baby kale, sharp cheddar on grilled levain wasn’t too shabby either. And their seasonal eggplant sandwich has done the trick for me as well since their veggie options aren’t super plentiful but they are really good at incorporating some nice seasonal stuff that’s meat free. Their burgers look delicious but since I’m sans beef, I stick to the sandwiches. If you’re a fan of crusty bread, these sandwiches are for you. If you’re not a fan of crusty bread, do like me and squish your sandwich a little with the box it came in and then cut it into bites to break up the hardness a bit. I know a lot of people love a good crusty bread like this and even though I’m not one of them, the sandwich as a whole was plentiful, delicious, and completely devoured by me in record time. After reading all the other reviews, I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t get in on any of that pickle action that everyone’s raving about, but I guess that’s just another reason for me to put Split on the regular lunchtime rotation and try again with a more robust order that includes fries and pickles.

I dined at this place back on 2012 and thought I had posted a review. My husband Chris and I were a little hungry after watching a movie at the Metreon, so we decided to give this place a try. It wasn’t busy at all. We sat at a table and ordered with our phones. It was a little impersonal. I like having one on one communication with our server and ask them what they recommend. So we had to order something that we thought would be good. I ordered the porchetta sandwich! It was on a toasted ciabatta bread with crispy pork with a lot of porchetta. It was topped with arugula and this onion sauce. It was quite delicious! I haven’t been there since 2012, but if I was hungry and in the area, I would go back!

Color me more impressed than most with this fantastic fast casual deli in the SOMA district. It’s a super popular lunch spot for a reason, and that reason has everything to do with their menu. From sandwiches to salads, I haven’t tried anything here that didn’t exceed my expectations in the flavor department. On my latest visit I had the Split Cobb, a delectable combination of mixed greens, spit roasted pulled chicken, crispy bacon, cherry tomatoes, blue cheese, avocado and champagne vinaigrette. It was mighty tasty, but I was even more impressed after taking a bite of my friend’s crispy chicken breast sammy with jalapeño slaw and hickory smoked aioli. It was bursting with flavor and I was immediately jealous and bargaining to switch plates. And did I mention free pickles? Some may write Split Bread off because at first glance it seems like just another mediocre offering next to a food court. I urge you to try them and see why the regular customers keep coming back.
