Since my last review, I still think this place currently has the best Vietnamese sandwich . However, one area they can improve on is to be opened at the hours they post. There were 2 – 3 times when I arrive at a time that they are supposed to be opened only to find the store closed. At the least, it would be courteous to post a sign on the door.

Great sandwiches and service! It helps that I know Vietnamese, but the women are very nice. I can see how there may be a language barrier, and there is no sign outside to label the restaurant. However, the sandwiches are fresh and delicious. There is a wait for the sandwiches, so be sure to order ahead of time and swing by to pick them up or eat. The sandwiches are $ 4, but you pay for the good food and services. I would definitely recommend this place, imperfections and all.

Their sammies are yummy but do NOT get the matcha shake thingy. The bf got it and I could taste the clumpy, milky powder. Our order took. FOREVER but the sammies made up for it. Just come if you have a long lunch so you don’t end up spending your whole lunch hour waiting for your order.

Love it here! Best Vietnamese sandwiches I had ever had. And their signature cold drinks are too good to pass up. English is a bit hard to understand but all in all best viet place ever(:!

Friendly, hardworking owner. Meticulously constructed banh mi(thap cam). Will return to sample more of her made in house meats.

If it weren’t for the English issues, this place would have 5 stars by my book! Crisp-yet-chewy fresh baguette rolls, pickled veggies, and the most savory cuts of jambon(that’s ham for ya Americans) came together to make the most delicious bites. My word of warning? Don’t try to modify anything in your sandwich! I asked for mine with no mayo(for the life of me don’t understand how it got into banh mi to begin with) and ended up getting the mayo taken out of my hub’s ‘wich. Meanwhile, my calorie reduction efforts were thwarted with a mayo-filled sandwich. Oh yea. The place is not much of a looker either. Take it to go to Union Square.

Pretty good bahn mi sandwiches. I’ve tried pork and fancy pork, BBQ pork and most recently tofu and pork. All were good, not excellent(3.5 stars).

Who needs eyelid surgery when you can drink this amazing Vietnamese coffee… After one sip my eyes opened up BIG… «I can see clearly now the rain is gone». It was so refreshing, the first sip already had me wired so that was a plus. The perfect taste of bitter with a touch of sweetness from the condensed milk. Let’s get to the good part… «sandwiches». Quick reminder I’m Vietnamese so u knows I be picky with my viet food. Bread– so crispity crunchy, toasted to perfection. Meat– pork belly seasoned and marinated so well with specks of char-broiled goodness around the edges. Spread– this secret spread was bomb! What is it? Idk it’s a secret… Some type of liver, buttery mayo something… Ummmm so delish! I want more! I wanna eat it with everything type spread. Veggies– pickled perfectly with a fresh crunch with everybite and FRESH! Cuz yah know some places have crusty wilted veggies for their viet sandwiches but not here… Hey!!! Over all eating this sandwich was a great experience. Plus it will not break your pockets… Holla! P.S the owner is really nice and there’s a special meat sauce drizzled to top off the sandwich. «Go and support this small business and spread the word»

Time: 2:17pm/74°F partly sunny Purpose: Couple of weeks ago an older lady was scrubbing windows and cleaning. Couple of guys on ladders making final touches. I ask what kind of business? They said Vietnamese coffee shop, very common in surrounding area. Ambiance: Very small place it could’ve been a barber shop for all I know. Anyways it’s located downstairs from an apartment complex. I feel pretty weird just by walking in. 2 tables max with a makeshift beach chair in the back and two chairs in the front no sidewalk seating. One Samsung and when Panasonic 55’in flat screen TV. 1 door cold fridge for holding cold drinks and flight of stairs leading to the restroom I guess, not sure looks spooky. The cashier counter was very messy and unorganized paper, books strewn all over the place. The back was basic with kitchen gadgets and all the equipments that they use everyday, microwave was such a turn off. Staff: Three older ladies kept telling me to sit and wait for my sandwich, finally sat. Go thing I did as all my life of ordering banh mi’s I’ve never encounter such long wait. It was like eternity sets in sitting there watching TV with different language being broadcasted. Later on I heard a loud shriek from one of the ladies. Turns out she had puncture her palm on the hand while trying to open a package of tofu. I’m standing thinking please take care of that wrap some gauge tape over it. Luckily the other lady was working on my sandwich, I didn’t order fishcake and tofu. Cleanliness: Grade B-, very unorganized lots of papers not related to business was strewn around. Looks like bare minimal was done to open for business. Eats/Drinks: Roasted pork sandwich $ 4. Will it’s like this the bread itself was a baguette roll, almost half the size you get from other places. I happen to like longer bread with a slight exterior crunch. The roll was hard and small good indication of store bought rolls. I guess they couldn’t find a legit roll distributor. I like places were the bread guy would deliver the bread in grocery brown paper bags a sure sign that it will be fresh and good tasting. Sandwich was pretty underwhelming as unknown sauce that tasted like thousand island dressing was slather on bottom portion of the bread. The pork tasted like BBQ instead of roasted pork as mention on menu under #6. Only thing I like was the vinegar veggies, cilantro, jalapeño peppers, cucumbers, carrots, onions can’t even taste the pâté. Products/Services: Sandwiches, phó, curry dishes, vegetarian, fish cakes, combos, stew, spring rolls, Vietnamese style coffee cold/hot, bottle water, coconut juices, Kern’s, aloe vera, soy milk. Wi-Fi is available but they just bought a gadget for that purpose but not up and running just yet. Punch Lines: Small café, sits about 5 – 6 people comfortably, large flat screens, TL area, street parking only, fresh veggies, below average, strong smell of urine stench on the sidewalks, homeless/transients panhandling, shady characters on corners, never a dull moment with police activities, mild slant on street(elderly person with disability may have hard time). Tradeoffs: Come here if there’s a bomb threat that closes the street near Saigon Sandwiches or Lee’s if you need your banh mi fix that bad. Final Thoughts: As a person that loves salmon banh mi’s and don’t mind paying a premium price for it. This place is not for me as beep-beep-beeeeeep is totally a turn off(microwave). The owners relatives sitting there playing with kids and throwing toys around while patrons trying to relax with a meal. With 3 workers my sandwich clocks in at 8 minutes and 32 seconds, why? I can’t say more but hopefully they’ll feel the pinch and make a useful change for the better. As for now it’s back to lower TL.

Best Vietnamese sandwiches in Nob Hill-TL area! Fresh delicious veggies with a little spice to give it a nice kick. And it was about an 8 inch hoagie for only $ 4. Can’t beat that price. Most sandwiches in SF are $ 8-$ 10 these days. Owner is real cool. Tough speaking English but, hey, that makes the experience authentic. O and coffee is amazing — Iced and cold. Very sweet, which is a Vietnamese thing I hear. Owner is great! She let me taste test coffee before I bought it. Anyway, love this place. Great prices, great taste. Not a ton of seating, but perfect to grab and go.
