Jazz isn’t dead, it thrives here. I’m so looking forward to the next series after seeing more than a few shows during the spring. Highlight was Rickie Lee Jones at Davies. Talk about an amazing vocal range and perfect timing. I witnessed something I had never seen before. A few of the band members were off, not playing to the level that was expected by Rickie. She stopped them cold, scolded them and started from the top, to end in a flawless piece. Afterward, she went to hug and thank them for not settling for just an ok performance. I don’t think most of the audience was even aware of the missed notes. Very impressed. SF Jazz is the most successful organization in the states and is in the process of building their own venue. Money well spent supporting a gem.
