SF in SF is an amazing, ongoing reading series that has featured the likes of Kim Stanley Robinson, Peter S. Beagle, Geoff Ryman, Patrick Rothfuss and dozens upon dozens of others. The evenings consist of readings from(usually) 2 authors, then a question and answer period moderated by author Terry Bisson, The event is intimate and free, but there’s a cash bar & donations accepted at the door that benefit Variety Children’s Charity. All around, incredibly entertaining evenings for a great cause, and a fantastic way to meet science fiction(and literary) types in the Bay Area.

A very cool reading series, mingle atmosphere, and tiny art gallery. and a great place to meet other sf fans. My first experience here was the January 28th event which showcased Ayize Jama-Everett reading from his book The Liminal People and Ryan Boudinot reading from his Blueprints of the Afterlife. The«SF in SF» stage has also featured famed authors the likes of Aimee Bender and Peter S. Beagle. Each reading is recorded and released as a podcast, including author interviews which are held quietly in the corner as the crowd trickles(and then streams) in. Series host/interviewer is author Terry Bisson. Donations at the door are welcome but not required. Proceeds benefit Variety Children’s Charity of Northern California. Their website says, «to date, we’ve helped raise over $ 25,000 for the kids in our community!» Should you need to get in touch with them, their email response time is markedly quick. There is a non-inbox-overkill newsletter through which they provide podcast links to each reading after the event. Email Definitely go. Whether or not you are a die-hard sf fan, this series puts you in touch with authors on the pulse.
