Great spot for succulent Italian/modern food!!! Called for same day dinner reservations– but it was totally booked. But they were so kind– called us back in an hour to let us know a booking got cancelled and if we wanted– we could have dinner there. We jumped on the opportunity– SOGLADWEDID!!! From the anti pasti to the dessert– it was layers of deliciousness! We even got a little treat from the chef– to launch the meal shall we say. William our ‘guide’ helped organize all the course options. Knowing we were super hungry We started with the beef carpaccio. Must have! Moved on to the special wild salmon course– the base and the fish were just amazing! Also had the veal stuffed pasta in a veal sauce– just PERFECT! Ended with the octopus ink infused spaghetti with shrimps– OMG– what an end to the main meal! Glad we got their bread– so we could mop every little bit of flavor from each dush And the dessert– chocolate ‘mousse’ with a biscotti– smooth, velvety and decadent… Awesome, awesome place!!! Glad we got to savor the food here– great work by the Chef and the nice staff.

Our favorite place to eat when we’re in San Francisco. All of the attention paid to local sourcing and farm to table – it’s clear the chef knows and works closely with farmers – without the pretension. The food is truly fantastic, the prices reasonable, the staff down-to-earth and extremely knowledgeable. It is a place people like to work, and that shows. Truly a gem.

Loved this place! The waiters were so nice and knowledgeable. They seem to be very excited when talking about the men. The free bread was pretty good… and for the appitizer we tried the pig tartare which was actually really good! I highly suggest giving it a try if you’re feeling adventurous. I and the special squid ink pasta with shrimp and it was amazing! I loved every single bite. Can’t wait to come back and get the truffle pasta dish!

Holy moly, the food and service here is great(Especially for the price point). Sauces were a little on the seasoned side, but I’m just going to assume that is a normal thing and my tastebuds are off. Try the mozzerella upgrade on the meatplate. It’s made from virgin mongolian water buffalo milk

We came to celebrate with a huge appetite after a long day of work and were not disappointed. Great ambiance and space, awesome attentive service, tasty food and we also might have made an appearance on the show, «Bay Area Check Please», as there was a live taping going on while we were dining — holla! They recommend ordering family style which was great so you can get a good taste of the variety of their menu. We ordered the Kobe Beef Carpaccio, which was a good amount of salty and savory — excellent. Also ordered the Raviolo Uovo. This dish was tasty but too rich for our taste, would definitely recommend sharing if you can. Next we dove into the maccheroncelli. This pasta dish was light but extremely tasty, my personal favorite of the night — exactly how I like my pasta’s. Lastly, we had Gulch leg of pork — I was pretty stuffed at this point in the evening so might not have been as tasty as it could of been — still good. Overall, we enjoyed dining at this fine establishment and would come back to try their other pasta’s. Ask the waiter for any butcher specials that may be going on for dinner as well as any other off menu pasta’s — they had a squid ink pasta the evening we went that we almost ordered, so be sure to ask.

Absolutely delicious. We went there for our anniversary. The service is impeccable, where multiple staff are checking on you and ensuring your every need is met! For an appetizer, we ordered a crudo.(Think Of a version Of sashimi, but more refreshing). My husband had pasta with truffles, which were brought to the table and added in front of us. I had the squid ink pasta with prawns. Simply delicious. This restaurant books way in advance so reservations are a must.

Since we aren’t from the area, it was tough to pick just one restaurant to have dinner at and we are SOGLAD we found this place! One of the best meals we have had in a while! Service was AMAZING! Wine selection was very nice. Can we talk about the Raviolo Uovo though!!! OH. MY. GOD!!! I would seriously fly back to San Fran just so I could eat that again!!!

I admit that I’ve passed on going to Seven Hills for a long time. I went here once when I initially moved to SF5 years ago, proclaimed it good, then moved on to other, more high profile places in and around the city. When one of my friends asked me if I’d go here with her again, I was enthusiastic about it, but wondered if it could be anything different or special. I’ve never been so happy to be proven wrong! Seven Hills is an absolute gem, and a place that I hope never gets to being bigger beyond what it currently is. I know a lot of people have heard about Seven Hills, but the restaurant has a certain neighborhood charm that is seemingly lost on a lot of places in the city. In coming in for an early dinner, my friend and I were enthusiastic about the seasonal menu that was scattered with short season ingredients like peas and beautiful produce like carrots and radishes. After hearing the specials of the day and our server’s favorites, we decided to share the following: Toscano Farm Snap Peas & Prosciutto Salad: A beautiful spring salad with crunchy and fresh snap peas and salty prosciutto, this was a great and light way to start off our dining experience! We were going to be ordering heavier items, so this was a light way to start off! Maccheroncelli with crushed tomato, chili, basil, and house made ricotta: My friend and I were really torn on which pastas to order, and after staring at the menu for a long time and asking our server, we went with this one. The red sauce that came with the pasta was tangy and delicious, and the house made ricotta was perfect as a topping. I wouldn’t pass on this, especially if you love red sauce. Carrot Tagliatelle with charred calçot, peas, whipped burrata, and ramp pesto: Made with freshly juiced carrots and 00 flour, this dish was easily the star of the evening. Both of us gushed about how fabulous the pasta was made, and the absolutely incredible sauce that came with the pasta. Much more complex than the maccheroncelli, this is a dish that I hope they keep on the menu! Grilled Devil’s Gulch Pork Chop with butter beans, broccoli di ceccio and pork jus: Seven Hills is known for two things: pasta and their pork chop. The pork was cooked to a perfect medium, and was salted and grilled to perfection. The vegetables and beans that came with the dish were delicious. It was hard to top the carrot tagliatelle that had came right before, so I think we downplayed our enthusiasm for it, but I would absolutely get this again when I come back. Straus panna cotta: We couldn’t pass on dessert and went with the panna cotta as a lighter option for dessert. The panna cotta had a fantastic vanilla flavor to it, but I think we both prefer our panna cotta to be a little more solid and less pudding-y. Still a good dessert, and the cookie on top was a great addition. Chocolate Budino with nocciola & pistachio biscotti: A chocolate budino is hard to pass up, and this one was no different. Extremely rich and chocolate-y, this is definitely for chocolate lovers. At the end of the evening, we asked our server if we could meet Chef Tony, and lo and behold, we met him! Extremely humble and mild mannered, we spent about 10 minutes talking to him about his current favorite spring ingredients, his favorite items on the menu, and some of the up and coming events Seven Hills will be having through the summer. Any time a head chef comes out to talk to you, it gets me planning my next trip back ASAP. Our server was a little scattered throughout the evening(forgot our bread order and forgot about showing the bottles of wine that we tasted), but where she was forgetful she was also kind and helpful throughout the evening. So, all in all, this was an absolutely fabulous dining experience and one of the better kept secrets of Nob Hill.

One word I can think of to describe Seven Hills is «divine.» Seven Hills is a small, intimate Italian restaurant in Nob Hill. They book up fast, so it’s best to make reservations in advance. My husband and I didn’t have reservations when we came in, but luckily were able to grab 2 seats at the bar. We were immediately greeted by Alex, the owner. He is honestly what made our experience so remarkable. He made us feel like valued customers, was kind enough to learn our names, and was just genuinely happy to talk to us and go over the food & wine menu’s with us. His knowledge over the wine menu was amazing! You can tell he has a great amount of passion and pride over his wine list — he was so informative and enthusiastic over a couple of the wines that we ordered which just made our dinner so unique and special. He also suggested some amazing dishes on the menu. And they were all incredible. You really can’t go wrong with any of the food here. Everything tasted fresh and had quality ingredients. My husband and I ordered: — Bread: I’m pretty sure it’s made in house. It’s $ 1 per piece but the slices are HUGE and it’s so yummy! — Ravioli Uovo: Their signature dish! I ordered this for myself and didn’t think it would be enough but it definitely was. Even though it is one giant ravioli, it is very rich and filling. Cut it open and egg yolk pours out and the ricotta inside also makes for a very creamy, delicious ravioli! Dip your bread in it to soak up the rest. I highly recommend this dish! — Maccheroncelli: Everything in this dish tasted fresh. From the pasta to the crushed tomato. Even though it only has a few ingredients, it has so much flavor! The chili gives it a hint of spice as well. The portion size is perfect — not too big but not too small. Cannot wait to come back here and try more of their food. This place is a true gem. A nice neighborhood restaurant with outstanding Italian dishes. Bravo!

This weekend’s been full of 5 star ratings from me and Seven Hills was definitely a highlight. Came here for Valentine’s Day with the BF and we were met with great service and great food. Table was a bit tiny for our wine glasses and plates but it all made up for it. Some highlights from dinner include the Scallop Crudo, Cappelletti Verde, and the Foie Gras Tortellini. The scallop was super fresh and I loved how they used crème fraîche with it. The Cappelletti looked like a salad dish but was more like a dumpling with the beef inside. UGHSOGOOD. The Foie Gras was just phenomenal. Not much to hate about this dinner at all but the fact that my BF and I were SOFULL by the end we had to walk around the block before getting on an über. The waiter was extremely kind and we even shared some of our wine with him :) Definitely coming recommend coming here for another occasion!

Really cute and intimate Italian restaurant, with a farm to table menu that changes everyday. We came here for valentine’s day and had the mozzarella and prosciutto charcuterie plate(this was okay, not worth $ 17), stuffed meatballs(yum!), ravioli uovo(just get one order and share, this is very decadent), pork ragu pappardelle(we paid $ 9 more than the menu price for the«full» portion, but we looked around and it was the same portion size as the«half» portion that is on the menu for $ 18), and a side of brussels sprouts(these were really fantastic, perfectly seasoned and not overcooked). We also were given an amuse bouche in the beginning of sliced apple with hazelnut pesto, which was a nice touch. You could get a piece of bread for $ 1, but the bread was nothing special so I would skip that. Wine menu was affordable, we got a decent Malbec for $ 40. Overall, the meal was great and was a bit more unique that your typical Italian dinner. Service was also fantastic. Only complaint is that some parts were overpriced.

Seven Hills is a quality neighborhood trattoria that remains popular and continues to deliver even after a change in ownership several years ago. While nothing about this intimate venue is ostentatious, that’s because it’s all about substance as opposed to style, whether in the cozy, rustic interior that lends itself to intimate meals, or in the relatively understated cooking that intentionally highlights the quality and freshness of the underlying ingredients. Indeed, quality and freshness pops up throughout the menu. For example, this restaurant is one of only about a dozen in the Bay Area that serves delicious, super-fresh buffalo mozzarella from Ramini Farms in Tomales, a small, family-run operation that’s worth visiting on its own. The tomato braised polpette(fontina-stuffed beef and pork meatballs) was satisfyingly delicious, and helped prime the appetite for equally satisfying entrees like the pappardelle, maccheroncelli, and the day’s fresh fish catch. Of course, I had to go for the chocolate budino to finish things off, and it didn’t disappoint. Service is warm and engaging, and Alex, the manager, was also super patient and obliging with multiple changes of plans that I had. While Seven Hills might not draw a whole lot of buzz in the Bay Area dining scene, the throngs of loyal customers that pack this place on most nights testify to the fact that an intimate, personalized, no-nonsense dining experience can be just as satisfying as, say, a dozen-course molecular tasting menu at some place that’s ridiculously ostentatious. Totally worth the 5 stars here on Unilocal

How did I have no idea that this place existed? A friend of ours in our dinner club had been recommending this spot for months and it finally got picked. If I knew how good it was, I would have picked it sooner. I’m looking at our receipt and I think we literally got everything no the menu(maybe even twice). What I can say is, I recommend anything here. Listen to their recommendations too and you can not go wrong. The owner is awesome and very down to earth. Great Italian food in one of the most underrated restaurants in San Francisco.

Wow. That is all I can say about this fantastic restaurant. One of my friends lives in the city right next to this restaurant and he kept telling me that he’s never been but heard it has amazing food. I said to myself, how could you have NEVER been it is literally right around the corner from your house! So I made reservations. naturally. And let me just tell you it did not disappoint at all. We started out with the meatball appetizer. The meatballs were juicy and perfectly cooked. Served with some crusty bread so you could sop up all the parmesan-y goodness. For our main courses we wanted to be a bit more adventurous so we went with the squid ink pasta with fish roe and cauliflower cream and the ravioli Uovo. I KIDYOUNOT that ravioli was probably the best thing I ate all year. If I lived next to that restaurant it would be dangerous. It was perfectly cooked and when you cracked into the center of this perfect ravioli a beautiful egg yolk came pouring out into the brown butter sauce. Wow is all I can say. The squid ink pasta was even better. Probably one of the most unique things I’ve eaten in a while. It traditionally comes with shrimp in the summer but it had this fish roe on it that was kinda like fish jerky almost. I know that sounds weird but trust me this stuff was . I will be back here possibly with my mother to force her to try this delicious concoction. SOGOOD.

Hands down my best Italian of 2015. This simple unassuming spot served a flawless meal, with excellent service. Thankfully we were hungry early because there was one spot available on opentable at 6. We tried a wonderfully dressed chicory salad, decadent chicken liver mousse on grilled bread, cauliflower with capers, grilled octopus, and a pasta in light red sauce with herbed ricotta. Everything was delicious and well prepared with an even hand in terms of seasoning. I would come back here anytime. Wish I lived closer.

As I’ve explained in my previous reviews, ordering here is easy, just order everything!(All the pastas that is – you’ll be lucky if you can finish them, hopefully you have a big enough group) We had, and loved: 1. Radioli Uovo 2. Tortelloni(off menu) — excellent with truffle 3. Gnocchi di Zucca — red sauce, great if you like gnocchi 4. Kale tagliatelle with mushroom 5. Maccheronchelli m — signature dish and the best!(Along with Uovo) 6. Spaghetti Nero with lobster — amazing 7. Pappardelle — rabid Sufi The food alone would warrant 5 stars for Seven Hills, but the management and personality of Alex and the entire staff put it over the top. Enjoy.

Italian food is my all time favorite so eating at Seven Hills was a dream come true. It’s in Nob Hill my old neighborhood, perfect so you are not in North Beach where it is very crowded. The tables though are very close together what makes this place divine is the delicious, modern, farm to table interpretations of classic Italian dishes. Must order: ~charred Spanish octopus ~butternut squash mozzarella ~ beet salad — delicious with toasted hazelnuts PASTA: ~ravioli uovo– life changing with egg yolk, ricotta, spinach & brown butter ~pappardelle with red wine tomato braised lamb sugo is WOW ~gnocchi –squash, sage & smoked ricotta If you are a lamb lover like me the Devil’s Gulch Leg of Lamb is a must. It’s a small neighborhood restaurant that gets quite full so always good to have dinner early. They have good selections of wine and desserts. So for a simple, modern Italian meal come to Seven Hills! You can really taste the quality of the ingredients and the care in which they are cooked. It’s quite pricey so I can’t come here all the time but it’s worth the treat once in awhile. Four stars!

Great pastas — no need for another review on the specifics. Get the ravioli uovo and whatever specials they have. It’s usually a squid ink pasta with different seafood toppings. Slightly pricey for the portion sizes. Prices are for half portions but you can double the portion for $ 9 extra. The exception to this rule is the ravioli uovo… so yes, you do have to pay $ 18 for one ravioli no matter what. The service was lukewarm but I can tell our waiter was annoyed with us. Maybe it’s because we took a while to order? Or because I look like a 10 year old asian girl that can’t afford to eat at nice restaurants. His demeanor got colder and colder as the night went on. Towards the end, he didn’t even bother explaining the dishes when he placed them on our table. I was slightly hurt because he seemed to love the table next to us as he gave them an additional free appetizer and explained each pasta in detail.(–0.5 stars) I’m not sure if everyone gets complimentary amuse brioche(via other Unilocal reviews) but we didn’t get it(yet the table next to us ALSO got this!?)(–0.5 stars)
