Went with hubby for dinner. Food was ok — ambience was very nice. I love This little alley. My salmon was cold for some reason but hubby had a great steak. Drinks were perfect. The service was superb. Would return for sure but maybe order something else.

I took my team here for a welcome lunch and it was great. It was a raining day, but they were able to accommodate us inside. The waiter was friendly and made us feel welcome. The macaroni and cheese was definitely one of the better ones I’ve ordered with just the right amount of crunchiness to it and the right amount of cheese.

On a rainy day, my boyfriend and I were looking for somewhere new to have a late night dinner. When we arrived, the kind woman who seated us ended up also being our server. It was a small space and quite cramped, but the décor was great. Yes, Sauce is mainly a bar, and there was no forgetting that fact with how loud other people were being. Eating at bars can be awkward when we both don’t drink, and I have noticed that people who are buying many drinks(and spending more money) usually are the servers’ main focus, not at Sauce! Our own server was very attentive, and even though the level of service she provided on her own went beyond my own expectations, it only got better. A few other servers came to check up on us as well during our meal. Now onto the food! It was amazing! We had the mac and cheese, lobster bisque, shrimp cocktail salad and cheese bread. We have talked about going back just for the bread. Everything was delicious and promptly prepared. We didn’t have to wait longer than 5 or 10 minutes for any one dish. I would say; I went to Sauce for the food, but I will be returning simply for the amazing service and atmosphere.

Sauce’s social plates = appetizer bliss Sauce is a casual restaurant with a little something for everyone. I was lured here by its promising starters and wide selection of drinks, and I definitely got what I asked for. The portions are the perfect shareable size and surprisingly filling! Between two people, we ordered: — Ham hock tater tots: Perfectly crisp on the outside, and a decadent mashed potato texture on the inside. Served with ketchup and a zesty green sauce. — Mini chicken pot pies: So cute! Chicken was tender, and these were so fun to eat. — Portobello mushroom fries: Possibly my favorite dish of the night. I gobbled these up(by myself). — Garlic cheesy bread: So. Much. Cheese. So. Many. Carbs. How could I say no? Overall, Sauce was a positive dining experience that made a lasting impression. There’s something about its comfy atmosphere that makes it the perfect spot to catch up with friends. They also have patio seating with heated lamps and cute hanging lights in the alleyway that it’s located in. I’ll be back soon to try the delicious-looking entrees!

TLDR order: — Scallops wrapped in bacon — Portobello mushroom fries — Mini s’mores and your life will be changed. The food they have here is really good if you order the right things! I’ve come here twice and I’d say that the appetizers are much better than the entrees. The scallops wrapped in bacon was super juicy and just delicous and the portobello mushroom fries are just amazing when you bite into them. The mini s’mores for dessert was just mouth watering. We also got the mac and cheese. I think it was good but it got a bit much.

Came here with my bf post work and the mushroom fries were ONPOINT. Parking was okay, and the margarita was pretty good! We got one margarita and one mojito, margarita was a lot better. Absolutely adored it! Food came out fast. We also go scallop wrapped in bacon along with mac n cheese. For dessert we got mini smores, which was great too! Loved the taste and flavor of this place. This place is tucked away in a little alley, but there is also a full size bar. Lots of people drop by for the bar, they do stop serving food earlier, so be sure to check in with them.

My friends and I(who haven’t seen each other in forever) made reservations at Sauce for a Friday night. Like most Unilocalers said, it’s easy to miss so keep your GPS open and your eyes peeled. It was down a super cute alley with lots of other cool looking bars and restaurants. We were seated right away outdoors and let the reunion begin. We ordered a round of drinks — I got the Moscow Mule. For $ 10.50 it was pretty tasty. We started with the appetizer sampler — it came with deviled eggs, mushroom fries, a bowl or bacon, and lobster wontons. It was delicious and the perfect thing to share with our beverages. We also ordered the tater tots — delicious! Their appetizers were delicious in my opinion — I didn’t want to move past that portion of the menu. For«dinner» I ordered a side of Mac-N-Cheese(couldn’t resist) — and shared the lobster bisque with my boyfriend. Both were very tasty in my mind. I thoroughly enjoyed Sauce and would come back in a heartbeat.

Tucked away right in the middle of other restaurants and in an alley, Sauce exudes a great spot to meet up, grab drinks and take your comfort on homely food to grub on. I loved the lobster roll! The roll was toasted perfectly right and buttered up to goodness. Have generous lobster pieces smacked right in between, and each bite is to savor over. The clean, velvety wine complemented well with the lobster roll. Outside dining is an option and adds to the charm of dining in between an alley. Staff was attentive and nice. You can Sauce me up here, anytime!

Ripped off, that’s how I feel. Totally ripped off. Service was adequate to good(varied through the evening) and the ambience is fine. The food portions, however, were miniscule and of insufficient quality to make me feel ok about the small servings. Food was bland and completely uninspired. I hate to give a low rating like this, but Belden Alley has so much better to offer. We ordered the beef carpaccio and fried chicken entrée and flourless chocolate cake. Carpaccio was $ 9 for about 3 slices of meat. I thought it would be fine spending over $ 20 for fried chicken because the menu dedcribed it as a breast with wing and leg(maybe it said thigh). I really thought I was getting ½ a chicken, which is why we decided to share the entrée. What I got was the smallest airline/frenched chicken breast ever, accompanied by tiny frenched thigh. The coating wasn’t very crispy and the whole dish lacked seasoning and flavor. The one good part was the sauteed spinach amd kale. How is it that the greens are better than the fried chicken?! Dessert was very rich and beautiful, so that’s safe. I’m sorry, but never going back. This city has too many other options where I will happily spend my hard earned cash.

The Belden location can be found nestled in a quiet alley way on Belden Street. I was surprised to find a variety of small, vibrant restaurants were also located around this area. San Francisco never ceases to impress me. It’s like San Francisco’s little kept secret! Came in with pretty high expectations given the high ratings on Unilocal.Usually known for their social plates and generous portions, the significant and I thought it would be a good idea to share our dishes for the night. With regard to the social plates, we tried the MINICHICKENPOTPIES($ 10.99), which incorporated Rosie’s Organic Chicken, English Peas & Carrots with Gravy and the GRILLEDAKAUSHIKOBESIRLOINSTEAK($ 27.99) — dried Black Mission Fig, Point Reyes Blue Cheese, Pumpkin Seeds & Arugula Salad Russet Potato Skins & Demi for our Entrée. The Pot Pies were unlike any other typical pot pie with a plain exterior crust filled with chicken and pea bits. Long and behold, the mastered art of all pot pies, right here at Sauce! Shredded(organic) chicken exterior molded in a small ball to enclose the flavored peas, carrots, and gravy that’s inside. Easy enough to take it all in one bite! Unfortunately, this was the only noteworthy meal of the night. This social plate came with 4 golf-ball sized pies, enough to feed one person on a diet. I, personally, don’t believe in «diets» other than the«see-food diet», so this barely filled my hearty tummy. The Sirloin Steak, yet another eye-opener for me as I was expecting a normal slab of steak and was surprised to see about six small square-cut slices of meat for a rather hefty price. In addition, the plate came with a mere 5 pieces of potato skins. WTF! I would’ve been less upset had this been a social plate, however, this was what they defined as an Entrée. Not cool, Sauce, not cool at all. Didn’t dig the scanty portions and left this restaurant hungry and unsatisfied. Since I am a believer in second chances, I’m willing to give this place another try with a bigger party in hopes for a better dining experience. + Indoor and outdoor seating available. + Reservations highly recommended. + This venue charges an extra 2% tax for Health Care Fees for their employees in addition to the county’s 8.50% tax rate.( ).

This has got to be the one dinner where everyone I came with had the same exact cravings! Crave has other locations but we went to the one in the alley where it is lined up with three or four other restaurants. This is where each restaurant serves up their best contender to steal you away to their restaurant and forget the others! However, Sauce won out the competition. FOOD: Like I said, we all craved the same thing on a cold SF evening. So main entrée of the night all across the table, tomato soup w/grilled cheese! It was delicious! Tomato soup was savory, sour but so nicely paired with their soft but toasted grilled cheese triangle points! Such a comfort meal. Although, we weren’t able to try anything else because everyone got the same thing. So rule of thumb, sharing is caring right? So don’t order the same entrée if there are other good meals you guys can swap a bite with! HOWEVER, we did get deviled eggs w/bacon, Mac and cheese, and Hamhock tots for appetizers! All of which were very yummy and well picked. SERVICE: They were friendly. They had a good laugh when they realized we all ordered the same thing. Good service nonetheless. Next time I’m in the alley, I look forward to seeing who sells their restaurant the best once again.

Appetizer are amazing here. Great happy hour place and small bites! I come here a lot with my friends when we just want a nice sit down with great snacks. We usually order: Portobello Mushroom Fries(MUSTORDER, super good, crispy and great flavors, one of my fave) Ham Hock Tater Tots(MUSTORDER, comes to two sauces) Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio(this is okay, good with wine, comes with bread) Crispy Wontons(okay good with beer) PB& J(Delicious :)) Environment is cute and cozy, inside Belden alley. Service is okay, our waiter was pretty sarcastic, I mean he was trying to be funny, but no one laughed, therefore we felt he was rude, but it is what it is. Will definitely come again to try their devil eggs and dinner selection!

I’m in love with Belden Place! I didn’t even know this alleyway of restaurants existed until I was Unilocaling somewhere to eat lunch with a friend and came across Sauce. There’s indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit indoors, even though it was rather loud with the TVs blaring. Sauce is a good place for a casual catch-up either for lunch or dinner. I ordered the highly recommended Mushroom Fries, which were SOGOOD. Mind you, they’re only good when they’re hot so eat them all right away. Once they get cold… they’re kinda nasty. The dipping sauce is tasty. For my entrée, I had a cup of the Seafood Chowder, which the waitress recommended over the Lobster Bisque. Very hearty and filling. I kept having to look around for our waitress, who was socializing with her colleagues. It was a little annoying after awhile. Even though she was friendly, she was not very present with her customers. Anyways, the food was good. High class bar food, I would say. Oh they also have bar seating so I’d imagine this is a good place to watch the game, have some beers, and chow down on their menu munchies.

Sauce was our first stop of many in San Francisco, and it definitely set the bar for us. We tried the mini meatloaf dish and the scallops. Both were executed very well and presented nicely. They tasted just like the menu described, and if we weren’t meeting up with others elsewhere, I would have indulged on more items.

This is a 3.5 star rounded to a 4 star review. I came here for lunch with coworkers, and we got some«outdoor seating»(under a canopy right in an alleyway shared with 6 other restaurants). Despite feeling a little cramped, there was enough space to adjust seating and move around. I ordered the grilled akaushi kobe sirloin steak($ 28), medium cooked. It consisted of 8 pieces of the Japanese red cow(akaushi) kobe steak, with fig, blue cheese, and pumpkin seeds on arugula with a side of potato skins. While I thought the salad would be perfect without the blue cheese, the main attraction here was the 8 pieces of steak, all of which were very tender and easy to chew, as expected. However, there were a couple of pieces that were more towards medium-rare, so while it would have been nice if it was a little consistent, I had no trouble finishing the dish. Service was significantly quicker than at Café Tiramisu, which is a definite plus! I’d love to come back here for dinner one of these days!

I heard about this place from my coworkers who attend pretty regularly — so I decided to check it out! I love the location, right in the Financial District — super easy to go after work. But, what I really love is the super cute alley it’s in! It’s located on Belden Street, and it’s the cutest alley filled with restaurants(and if you go at night, it’s filled with romantic hanging lights). The waiting staff was very polite and courteous, however it did get busy and the service suffered quite a bit and we had to flag her down for water(not really a big deal to us). I ordered the lobster roll and the lobster bisque — and fair warning… I’m a native New Englander who moved to the Bay Area about a year and a half ago — so I admit I can be a bit of a seafood snob with high standards. I did not like the lobster bisque to be honest, the flavor was off, which was sad because I love lobster bisque! The lobster roll was better than the bisque, but I wasn’t really impressed either(a bit rubbery and stale tasting). I WAS impressed by the plating — all the food looked beautiful. So all in all, it’s an adorable venue, the service is good, the food looks beautiful — but it tastes a little disappointing.

09.22.15 etc. We did it. We turned rounds of appetizers into dinner. And left stuffed! Mini chicken pot pies — the crust could use a bit more flakiness, but the filling was flavorful. Mushroom fries — I can just order these and be happy. Dungeness crab rangoon — fried deliciousness. Deviled eggs — topped with bacon. A bowl of bacon — need I say more? Mac and cheese — creamy and gooey. Shoutout to our lovely waitress who was beyond patient with us and handled our awkward humor with grace. Total damage for three: $ 146

Ehhh I was pretty disappointed by this place(the service was atrocious, but the food is decent), but mostly, I was pretty embarrassed. I came here a few weeks ago during lunch with a bunch of managers as a «thank you» as I put in my 2 week notice, so I wanted to take them out to lunch and this place had high marks. Boy… the joke was on me. We walked into the restaurant, and it was empty. Well, almost empty, there was a bartender cleaning out some glasses but no hostess, no waitresses. There was a party of 2 seated inside and at most 3 parties seated outside. This was at 12PM mind you, right during the lunch rush, but I’m not quite sure they got the memo. Anyways, it was quite a few minutes before someone finally came by and seated us. There’s a good selection on the menu, particularly on the social plates. The portobello mushroom fries is one of their specialty items and I think a must try. Their house burger is also a good choice to go with. After waiting for our food, the server brought out 3 orders(we were a party of 5), and after setting our orders down, we all decided to wait until the remaining orders came. It turns out, the server brought us the wrong orders! So we ended up waiting for another 10 – 15 minutes for our order… I’m sure someone screwed up and had to remake our orders. Mistakes happen, totally understandable… but not even a simple«We’re sorry». Finally, as I was looking to pay the bill, our waitress disappeared! I managed to flag down the waitress who was serving the table next to us, and after she had finished with the table’s orders, I asked if she could get our waitress, and she replied«No, sorry I’m busy.» !!! I would have considered giving this 3 stars, but after re-reading what I wrote and the fact that it was a lunch with mainly executives and managers, this place leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Explore other options in Belden Lane, there’s a reason why this place was empty as it was during the lunch hour rush.

This review is solely for their social plates. My friend and I ate at the outside seating in Belden Place, which was a cute spot to catch up and dine together. We decided to share and only order social plates so we could have a little bit of everything. Food was a bit pricey, but service was great, everything tasted distinct and delicious, and portion sizes were just right — perfect for two people! I loved that the food was given in even amounts, which made sharing easy and avoided that awkward«You should eat the last piece!» situation. OURORDERS: — Deviled Eggs with Bacon — Shrimp & Artichoke Wontons — Portabello Mushroom Fries(my favorite) — Mini Chicken Pot Pies — Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio Ordering the social plates is great if you’re dining in groups because you can add variation to your meal and still get full from several appetizers. I was very impressed by how the food tasted and how they were presented. I would love to come back here again!
