I have bought wall hangings here in past years. Today my mother and I, along with my 3-year-old walked into the store. My child did NOT touch anything nor was she interested in touching fabrics and clothing. There was nothing fragile or glass in the store. The male storekeeper stared at my child with the meanest look and would not take his eyes off of her. Clearly he does NOT have any children. How rude!!! She didn’t even do anything! We left immediately and will NEVER set foot in this rude store again. For all you parents out there with kids, I suggest you avoid this place!

Small selection, over priced, and the lady winking here(owner.?) was not so nice as other vendors. Why???

Good source for all those accessories needed when wearing kimono. It is not easy to find some of these things outside of Japan if you lose or rip something, I always seem to come back from special events missing an obi ita or obi soft sash. Summer yukata Lots of cute non kimono boutique clothing items too. I find it frustrating that everything has to be CHEAP to be good for many Unilocalers. There are some items that are so hard to find, don’t be a cheapskate and demand a bargain or it is the dreaded one star. Buy the items(esp if quality is good because IMPORTED from Japan) and keep the business in business or there will be no where to buy these items

I have been extremely pleased with the quality of the product, from the hand dyed cloth to the yukata and obis that I have given as gifts and purchased for my own collection. Many of the door ways in my house are adorned with their spectacular noren!

why do I get the feeling the owner or something thinks i’m one of those dumb tourists or japanophilias? oh that’s right, she tried to tell me she’s on her last stages of bone cancer and tried to milk me for my money when I asked her about the omamori. I do understand why she tried to milk me for my money since this japantown is a not-really-Japanese tourist place. majority of the stuff here too are either a ripoff or ridiculously expensive. if she was in her last stages of «bone cancer», shouldn’t she not be at the shop? seriously.

Lots of nice items that are difficult to find outside of Japan and the owners are knowledgeable. It is the go-to place for yukata and accessories. The prices are not cheap but they are fair. You get what you pay for.

This is the very best boutique in Japantown. Their raincoats are unique and perfect for traveling. The staff are very helpful, and Mariko Jordan, the owner, has a fantastic eye for fashion and will advise customers on what looks best on them. I highly recommend Sakura Sakura.

I came in today looking for nagajuban and came out pleased as punch. Not only did I find a juban that fit me, but she(the owner?) showed me the ones she sold were made of two parts and easier to wear. Compared to the prices I pay for kitsuke items in Sacramento, hers are a bargain. The juban was only $ 45. Obi makura, obi ita, and eri shin all great prices. The obi age are gorgeous silk. She spent a lot of time with me, giving me advice on the different kinds of kimono accessories. We talked about tea ceremony and how she hopes to carry more kimono and obi, but wonders if there is even a market for them. I will definitely be back.

If I could give no star, I would. I live in Berkeley and shop often in Japantown, one of my favorite places to go. I always have a great meal, buy lots of items I need, and experience friendly service, except at this store. I walked in today, made eye contact with the saleswoman and attempted to say ‘hi’, but she turned away, being extremely rude. The store was empty, and I can understand why, with the type of greeting I received. I immediately turned around and left and will not be back. I’ll spend my money where I’m treated in a polite manner.

If you want a unique present for yourself or your BBF, Sakura Sakura is the place where you might find that cute present. It is a small boutique inside J-Town mall. I usually just admire their cute items from outside the window on my way to my fave stores and restaurants at the mall. Today, on my way to claim my birthday lunch treat from my friend Vilma, we were distracted and came out of the store with identical two-toned scarves for $ 19.99 each. To prove my point that Sakura Sakura sells cute stuff, I got lots of validation today from my girlfriends about how cute my scarf was. Sakura Sakura also sells stylish and classy Tokyo style fashion, something that Audrey Hepburn would have worn; as well as hip, more youngish coats as well. And do not forget to check out the CUTELITTLEKIMONOS for LITTLEGIRLS. How cute is that!!! The items are expensive but you can find affordable unique stuff like Tatami Socks, slippers to match your kimono, purses, etc. I will remember to check this place from time to time everytime I visit J-Town.

Where else can you go in Japan town to find inauthentic, overpriced, westernized yukatas? Well, you can actually probably go to most places in japantown and find that, but this place has those things in a wide variety of colors. I’m not going to lie, the ones here are a lot more vibrant looking than the yukatas and obis I have a home, but mine are actually from relatives and I didn’t have to pay the prices this store charges. They’re cute and boutique-y with a nice selection, but no real substance with any of their products. It caters to tourists(as all Japantown does) but they could do a better job of hiding it, I think. I have a navy, pink and white yukata at home just like the one in your front window, but mine didn’t cost me $ 70.

They have some products that are tough to find outside of Japan, but they’re severely overpriced. I bought a hada-juban and and an obi-ita and it cost me like $ 60-$ 70. Waaay over priced. The lady who worked there was also pretty condescending. I was clearly looking through a series of undergarments & products necessary to wearing a kimono/yukata and just because I don’t look Asian(I’m half) she automatically assumed I didn’t know what I was looking at. She wasn’t nice about it either, and her tone/comments were pretty rude. I can understand that there probably are a lot of people who come in and don’t know what to buy, but atleast she could have some tact when handling customers. I’d only recommend this place if you absolutely can’t find it anywhere else.
