Dr. Coughlin! I was a patient of yours three years ago and wanted to thank you! I was a motorcycle accident on 3÷1÷2012 and spent many surgeries under your knife. I am now fully mobile and mostly pain free. My wife and I are now foster parents and contributing members of society.

Honestly one of the WORLDS greatest orthopedic surgeons. He left a very successful private practice to work with the underserved community both in the SF Bay Area and beyond. Dr Coughlin teaches UCSF doctoral students how surgeries require a comprehensive approach; plastic and ortho surgeons MUST work together synergistically to achieve good results. Our bones and our soft tissue work together to achieve great things, so should the surgeons. Dr Coughlin travels the globe teaching orthopedics in places where surgery is simply not available. He is a expert in reconstructive surgery and severe trauma. I am an amputee that he helped save from further amputation and gave me hope through one of the toughest times of my life. He also led me to Dr Scott L Hansen a Chief Plastic Surgeon at UCSF. Hansen is a surgeon he travels with teaching for UCSF. I have had other«good» surgeons, but honestly I felt I was in the best four hands on the planet. No joke. I have had Stanford docs, and even considered going to the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. My amputation was complex, and I needed the very best. Once I met Dr Coughlin I felt safe and cared for. That was tremendous given I had terrible PTSD and hypertension that was untreated when we met, lol !!! He is very busy helping literally hundreds of people everyday. Do not be discouraged if he spends only a short time with you in a patient visit room. He has seen so many injures and severe trauma that his assessments are quick. When you really need him he will stop everything and if your lucky enough to have him cut — well your are in GREAT hands. Decades of experience all over the globe. Dr Coughlin is an extraordinary surgeon and fantastic caring human being. I just wish his billing people were as wonderful as he was. I eventually lost him due to terrible worker comp problems and unpaid bills at the St. Luke’s UCSF Clinic. It seems they’re bills didn’t get«submitted correctly.» and they stopped being able to see me. It’s not their fault, it’s a bunch of worker comp BS. It was absolutely nothing to do with Dr Coughlin. He wouldn’t turn his back on any patient. I am so grateful to have had him on my team for a terrible injury. SF General and UCSF both have a lot of the best doctors, but Coughlin is one of their most experienced.
