Recently had a hellish meal here and am finally getting around to reviewing… This place has really gone downhill. I live in the neighborhood and used to enjoy frequenting this restaurant… Never again. Service sucked: We were the only people here for dinner and the aloof waitress managed to get our order wrong(she brought us two incorrect dishes). It also took 20 minutes to get drinks and 30 minutes for the first course – did I mention nobody else was here? Food: We ended up throwing most of it away. I love rare meat, but not when it comes to pork. The pork chop was way undercooked and had to be sent back 2x. Everything tasted reheated. The best part was finding a wadded up piece of Saran Wrap in my rice! At least pretend you’re making food fresh. Don’t go here unless you like eating gross food.

Is Asian fusion still a thing now? Like the cuisine, Region has some identity issues but can still dish up a few decent hits. The décor is more dance club than restaurant i.e. Vegas-adjacent which feels a little forced in SF. The same can be said about the food. Honestly not much fusion going on but a lot of fussy plating for otherwise pretty homey Asian street food. With that said, you need to get the house fries with the furikake seasoning if you’re here. It’s crack addictive with all that salt and umami action. The pork lemongrass skewers are decent as are the Peking duck rolls but you can get smiler or better elsewhere. The spring rolls were underwhelming in flavor though. Prices are fine for happy hour which goes till 8pm but otherwise is overpriced for what it is. There are better bars and restaurants around Region to consider for post work food and drink.

*I would give it a one star but the food was decent in certain areas like the big ass pork chop but the fries with Nori, holy cow, total salt lick *They made me an absolutely horrible moscow mule, the bartender was very offish for some reason and the servers seemed lost *the place is loud, I mean, there was a group next to us and it didnt help they were just yelling and screaming at each other, it turned into a full restaurant shouting match to be heard

This review for Happy Hour. I’m unimpressed. Came here on a Friday night at 730 with my boyfriend and since happy hour ended at 8 pm, we just made it! There was only one party eating dinner in the dining area, and a couple folks at the bar. Why was it so dead on a Friday night?! Anyway, excited that I thought we had found a hidden gem, we ordered 3 appetizers from the HH menu: Coconut shrimp, 5 Spice Chicken and Chicken Spring Rolls. I ordered the Japanese Iced Tea drink and my bf ordered the Moscow Mule. The bartender was not friendly at all. She hardly smiled and she pretty much acted like she didn’t even want to be there. The other bartender, however, was super-nice, very friendly, easy to talk to, really showed us customer service. He made us felt like he was happy we were there at the restaurant. So, one added star for that guy. My review would have been only 2 stars without him. When our food came, I was surprised at how small the portions were. $ 7 for 3 little coconut shrimp with a standard sweet and sour sauce. $ 7 for 4 halves of Chicken Spring rolls with an overpowering taste of ginger that I couldn’t handle. It was basically 2 regular sized rolls cut in half, with a dark oyster sauce decorating the plate. The 5 spice chicken was ok– but nothing outstanding or remarkable about it. Oh, and we ordered the fries at the recommendation of the emotionless bartender. Can you say SALTY?! Given, it was an order of fries with furikake and truffle oil, but I literally had to shake off the salt because it was too much! My drink was standard. Could have used a bit more alcohol and less sweetness. My boyfriend’s Moscow Mule tasted watered down, diluted. Maybe because there was too much ice in the cocktail shaker? Although the ambiance of the restaurant is great(I love the layout, the colors, the lounge area, the chandelier-type light), the food and service were below my standards. I may want to come back for some of the parties they throw there, possibly, or maybe the karaōke night, but for sure, I’ll stay away from the happy hour food and drinks. There are plenty of other places in the area that have better happy hours.

I hosted a private event here, and it’s a perfect place for a small VIP party if you are looking for a venue. The main event space is gorgeous, with small booths and a good sized dancefloor area where we had a table for hors d’oeuvres. Drinks — YUM! Their cocktails are fantastic. Our logistics person made menus for our guests, and Region had chosen excellent cocktails to feature. Good job! Food — I will admit that we ordered some of the more budget friendly items on the menu, but presentation was not great, even for fried foods. Plus, the food came out way after our guests had arrived. Perhaps I will have to come back for some of the«fancier» items. Staff — Bartenders were friendly but the gentleman who was setting up the place, handling our on-site requests, and appeared to be the point person was very unhelpful. At one point, for example, I needed to hook up my laptop to the TV screen. He pointed to a mess of cables and told me to find the HDMI cable myself. Excuse me! I’m running a VIP event, and no venue should have issues with cable management, especially when we hired the deejay. Overall, our VIP guests expressed that they truly enjoyed the event, and a huge part of that is thanks to the atmosphere that Region created. Thank you!

Two stars because they automatically add gratuity to your bill even though your party is less than 6. Look and ask for the itemized receipt. When they think you’re drunk they don’t give you an itemized receipt in hopes that you’ll add extra $ to the tip line I ordered 3 drinks at $ 6 each. My cc receipt came to $ 23 and some change. They added tax and 18% tip. Ahh, and no itemized receipt for this one because they thought I was drunk… I probably sound like a cheapo, but it’s my decision how much I want to tip and I don’t like to being told so, especially if I’m only ordering 3 drinks. Granted I would’ve tipped about the same or more, but what they’re doing is sneaky. Some people don’t look at these things… and they should.

Came with a coworker after work… well break from work, since I had to hit the laptop later that night, and need a good HH fix. Thought I would try this place out, as it was on my happy hour(HH) list, and near my office in the Fidi. Yep, well this place pretty much hit the spot for a decent HH. It was a great night, so they open the windows, which was awesome. This place looks a little divy on the outside, inside it is as well, as they have these somewhat random curtains cover the kitchen. So minus the stars. But for a nice, quick HH, in a good area, this will do. We ordered of the HH menu. We got the Tofu Spring Rolls, Potato Waffles, Somosas, Cheese Sticks, and a few Carbenets to boot;) The Tofu Spring Rolls were great, so were the Somosas… just like my mom makes, so thumbs up! The Potato Waffles were just that, fried potatoes, but they did come with blue cheese. The Cheese Sticks were good, but just typical cheese sticks. Bottom line, this place is somewhat small, but does offer a decent HH. I would come back for an HH fix, since my office is so close to this place, and definitely snag those spring rolls and somosas again. If you are vegetarian, I would certainly order those. Enjoy my Unilocal fans.

Had dinner reservations at Region for dinner and was curious about the food there since I’ve heard about the place being a lounge nightclub in the evenings. The bar area is in the front and the spacious dining room had three booths in one side and larger booth table on the other sides and some tables in the middle of the room with a DJ booth overlooking the floor. You can see how this is set up to be a nightlclub with the dance floor in the middle. After ordering our drinks, we couldn’t decide on our choices and the waiter gave us his recommendations. Our order: Crispy Salmon Rolls with light soy wasabi. These salmon, imitation crab and avocado rolls were deep-fried in a panko batter. It was pretty good and was not greasy.( ) Salt & Pepper Baby Octopus with bell peppers, green onions, jalapeño and lime. Thought these would be similar to salt & pepper ribs or chicken wings, but they were not. These was a sauteed dish.( ) Chicken Coconut Curry Fried Rice with eggs, goji berries, onions, cabbage and roasted coconut. Had a slight sweetness to the dish with a very slight curry taste. Felt the portion was small.( ) Grass-fed Beef with sautéed house made potato chips, onions, and oyster plum sauce. Never had potato chips sauteed in a dish. The beef was tender and having thick chips sauteed into a dish was different. The sauce was slightly sweet but was spicy since there was red peppers in the dish. The menu didn’t list peppers as an ingredient and it should be listed as «spicy».( ) Overall, food was on the pricier side relative to the portions. The food was not special and have a sweet taste.

Living nearby in South Beach it can be hard to find new places to go out for food. This night we didnt want to go to our old haunts and so found this little number on opentable. The restaurant was basically empty, a few drunk people post giants game, but I guess this place really gets going for weekday lunches given its location. There were some interesting twists on the menu, and the service was actually really sweet, and the food tasty and not just standard. It’s not fine dining, and it’s not trying to be. Its a funk-ily decorated pan asian place that’s worth a try!

Short Story: A hip place near the Ferry Building that serves phở for happy hour! Long Story: I came here with some co-workers after work and we had a happy hour here. It was some good food, although the portions are small. The service is okay, but I feel they are lacking in terms of them coming to your table and asking how everything is. You generally need to go up to the bar and ask for service. The deco and ambiance is really nice. The chandelier, the seats, and tables all blend in nice to give it a modern and warm feel. I got the wings and fries. Some of my co-workers got the ribs. The drinks are all really well made with generous amounts of alcohol. Verdict: I’ll be back! Looking forward to another HH.

We were at Region for a Bday Party, but had dinner prior. We had the BBQ pork ramen, the salmon rolls, and the house fries. Ramen was pretty good. I didn’t really like the salmon roll much. And, the fries were okay. Food, I thought, was 3.5 at best. I heard good things about the duck dish and the Pad Thai, but I didn’t try them. The place is pretty small; seats about 40 – 50 people, maybe. Ambience was nice. Dim, clean, trendy. The place was rrockin’ after dinner. Music was cool, drinks were pricey. $ 8.00 for a cup of Pale Ale. $ 13 for a lemon drop. Ouch. We’ll be back for the next party, but probably we’ll probably pass on dinner. Btw, we had a great time at the party!

My experience here is similar to the one that Eddie W. wrote about just a short time ago this year. Here’s my experience: my coworkers and I came here on a Friday for happy hour. We were met with: a not-so-cheap price list for drinks, so-so food, and an understaffed bar that came off as dysfunctional… even though I am sure that with the number of patrons that came streaming in the door, the two people behind the bar were working hard to help everyone. It was not pleasant to find out that out of the 10 drinks we ordered, 1 was a completely wrong order, and 3 came in glasses that clearly had not seen a dishwasher recently. The staff was great in taking care of our gripes, however, so kudos! Overall, it was not a place that I’ll return to, but given that it is so close to my office, I’ll check in on reviews to see if any improvements come along.

With Region so close to our office, we decided to give them a try for happy hour. As soon as you walk in, the ambiance is definitely slick and feels like you have been transported to a lounge club in Vegas. It is definitely great for groups and ample seating for such a tight space. That’s all the positives I can come up because everything else was bad Happy Hour prices aren’t all that cheap especially when you consider how little your dollar goes Here were some of my grievances, perhaps with changes this place can turn around? Draft Beers-for a large they charge $ 6 + tax in a glass which I can only guess holds at most 12ozs and they have the nerve to serve it with almost an inch of foam barely cold(Palomino $ 5 all day, amazing selection, 16oz pints and COLD!) Inconsistent prices across all drinks we ordered and rather bland(retraining would be imperative) Wings were lacquered in nothing but fish sauce(easy with the fish sauce people) Fries were unexceptional and felt the seaweed did nothing for the dish(needs sauce and seasoning) Service was dysfunctional and apathetic(everyone had to order at the bar, no one came to provide service, where was the sign?) Music was horrible… their playlist is from the 80s-90s at best…(Top 40 would have been so much better) Lighting was far brighter than it needed to be(dim it down, save some energy) Overall Thoughts They are pinching corners where they shouldn’t and their lack of execution in front of house and kitchen leaves me frustrated enough to consider Region off my list for some time

Came here on a Friday night for a friend’s bday dinner and definitely I would say a hidden gem! With the amount of people we had on reservation, I was surprised that they were able to accommodate it on a Friday night! This place is somewhat hidden and can accommodate a few large groups. Place is well decorated and sophisticated. I completely forgot the name of the food that I ordered but it was packed full of flavor. I ordered a braised baby calf beef and it was super tender! Well balanced flavor and the beef was so tender that, once I dig in my fork into it, and the meat would just fall right off. My dish came with mashed potato and some bok choy. Also, well flavored and it was perfectly paired with the braised beef. Service was also super good. My glass was never empty of water and our waiter was super friendly and very eccentric! After dinner, the dinner room was completely empty(around 10ish). I am surprised to say that with their great service and food, that they are not packed on a Friday night? There was a couple of people in the bar area after 10ish and finally got the DJ play some good songs. Stayed in for a little while to drink and chat for a bit. Overall, I would say that I would definitely come back again!

Why is this place so hidden? Went on a Friday night for my friend’s big bday bash. The venue is really nice, clean, and trendy. They were busy for dinner but as soon as 10 o clock hit the place emptied out. Since there were about 12 of us, they cleaned up the dining area and brought the DJ out. I saw about 4 people total from 10 – 11:30, which was pretty sad seeing that this is a great place to get drinks and listen to some good house music. The service was absolutely fantastic! Our waiter was very attentive, the food was brought out at the same time, and our drinks were refilled constantly. The bar situation however was the opposite. The lady serving drinks was nice, but seemed like she didn’t really know what she was doing. However, I went back for a second round and she made my drink very good. Food: I ordered the Chacal Lavong. Vermicelli noodle, grilled catfish, cucumber, pickled veggies, and Japanese shiso leaf with a side of fish sauce. I took a chance on this and it paid off! The dish was fantastic. However, a lot of us left hungry since the portions were not as big and the food was not filling. Overall I would definitely give this place another shot and hopefully it wont be so empty at the bar.

Went here with a group of co-workers last month after 12:30 for lunch and the place was pretty dead. We wanted something nearby the office though and thought of Region since we all like Unicorn. We started off with some duck rolls to share. They were like the traditional Vietnamese spring rolls filled with basil, lettuce, cucumbers, roast duck and duck sauce. They were very tasty, light, and refreshing. I got the grass fed beef sauteed with onions, house-made potato chips and oyster sauce served with a bowl of white rice. The beef was tender, a little spicy, it wasn’t bad at all, but on the salty side as well as it was drenched in the sauce. Besides the appetizer though, portions were generous. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their entrees(pork chop, fish and Shanghai noodles). Sake here was decent. Prices are a little on the higher end(even more so than Unicorn I believe). Besides the décor, the other thing I liked about Region was that they use Square, which makes dealing with the bill easy. I think if the prices were cut a little, then the restaurant would see more traffic.

Bland food, overpriced menu, trying too hard ambiance. Friendly staff, but that can’t justify going there :-/ I had the chicken clay pot and basically had to pour nuoc mam and sriracha all over it to taste something other than unseasoned chicken and plain rice. My coworker who ordered the pad Thai said it felt like a chore to eat the food. Um, that’s not good especially if you’re paying $ 17 for it. We also had the green beans and fries as appetizers. None wowed us. For 7, the bill came out to be $ 170. So not worth it.

Judging from the dark lighting and West Elm-style touches, I think this place aspires to be just like the Osha Thai on Third and Harrison, a swanky blend of cocktail lounge and hipster-friendly eatery with a decided focus on their happy hour business. It shares the same owner and style as Unicorn in the FiDi, but the resemblance stops there. The location housed Mexico DF before, not a place I miss much, and before that, it was a Long Life Noodle House which I really don’t miss at all. I’m starting to feel the atmosphere of culinary mediocrity is systemic to the location. That’s too bad since our waiter was extremely attentive and conscientious. I only wish he was able to serve something that was more worthwhile than what we ordered. Jamie W. and I were here to take advantage of a 20%-off coupon he saw in a neighborhood paper. It was early in the evening, so the dining room was fairly empty while the lounge area was crowded with young professionals — smarmy and proudly loud. For our appetizers, we were able to take advantage of the $ 6 Happy Hour menu and ordered two plates. The first was a rather paltry serving of the Tofu Spring Rolls, good but over in two bites even as we liberally coated them with the sweet peanut sauce(see photo). The second was the Spicy Hunan Wings that were Frenched into lollipop shapes and drowned in a sweet-and-sour sauce that at least I could barely stomach despite our love for all things wings(see photo). Entrees didn’t sing to us either, at least in tune. Jamie had the $ 20 Scallops and Prawns Singaporean Seafood Curry, which was passable fare even if it didn’t have as much kick as the menu promised(see photo). It gratefully came with a tin of rice which he shared with me — probably against his will(see photo). Mine should have been a sure thing but wasn’t. It was the $ 20 Giant Pork Shank, a nice hunk of meat accompanied by bits of Szechuan pepper, bell pepper and carrots. I was hoping it would evoke memories of the pork shank that Shanghai 1930 served next door during its heyday. What killed it for me was the candy-like flavor of the sweet and sour sauce(see photo). A sadly unmemorable dining experience. FOOD — 2 stars… fusion confusion with way too much emphasis on the sweet end of the flavor spectrum AMBIANCE — 3 stars… clubby swank, definitely not cozy SERVICE — 4.5 stars… great waiter, give him a raise TOTAL — 2 stars… Osha wannabe fades into the background of my culinary memories

I have been wanting to try this for quite some time. When I saw a LivingSocial for it, I jumped on it like a fumbled football. Oh did I tell you I was waiting for traffic to die down after attending my first 49er game? GONINERS!!! Ahem, anyway. Ambiance is new and modern(like the 49ers new stadium being built in Santa Clara) but pretty cold(like Candlestick Park). The service was friendly and accommodating(like the 49er fans – much to my surprise.) The food was pretty good but too expensive for the quality of food being served(much like the concession stands at the 49er game). Overall, I really liked the Shanghai Noodles(think stir fried udon but with pad see ew veggies and flavors. My small bowl seafood miso had one prawn, one scallop, and some tofu for $ 7…hummm… My prawns were in a chili sauce with bacon that was way too greasy. My man’s Mongolian beef was surprisingly large but a little bland. Overall it was good, but not really worth the price(one could argue that I still bought $ 8 crap nachos at candle stick, but anyway…) Overall, I had a really good time trying a new place through LivingSocial. I don’t know if I will make an effort to return though.

I’ve said it once before but I’ll say it again, men are like restaurants. You have to go through a few to find those winners; those 5 star dining experiences. Region is like Mr. HAWT, the one that makes you melt when you look at him, the one that makes you want to throw your panties off after several shots of LCs. That’s until he opens his mouth the morning after and says, «Sup, Ma!» GAMEOVER! Region is an absolutely gorgeous venue. It’s no doubt that the owners spent a small fortune to make it look like a swanky Vegas-like restaurant and lounge with a super sleek dining room(smaller in person than in pictures) with stunning chandeliers and an eye-catching purple illuminated bar. Unfortunately, it stops there. My favorite perverts and I came to Region, a 5-month old Asian Fusion(Chinese, Viet and Thai) restaurant for happy hour. Gotta watch out for those shy corporates because when 5 pm strikes you better have your chastity belt on. There’s a $ 6 Happy Hour Menu: Monday — Friday from 4PM — 7PM with several beers, wine, cocktails and appetizers on the menu. As a gin gal, I was sorely disappointed in the Gin Elder(HH Special– $ 6). It tasted NOTHING like gin but watered down chardonnay. I thought maybe they gave me the wrong drink so I checked with our waitress. She confirmed I had the right(whacked) drink. BOO! So much for a «happy» hour. *sad pouty lip* We wanted to get a sampling of their food in the event we wanted to come back for dinner one day. While some of the authentic Vietnamese flavors(salty, sour, spicy, and sour) were there for the happy hour appetizers we sampled, it was mediocre at best and nothing special that you can’t get at other Asian restaurants for a fraction of the cost. In my opinion, Asian food is meant to be cheap and anything more than that, you’re simply paying for the ambiance which is the case with Region. $ 47 for one whole duck at Region? Do you know what I can get for $ 47? Four whole roast ducks in Chinatown!!! *GASP* I officially sound like my ketchup packet stealing, paper towel reusing, buffet food hoarder Chinese mom. :X OTHERNOTES: *Same owner(s) as Unicorn: *Previously Mexico DF *Friendly and attentive staff *$ 6HH menu: *Book reservations through Savored for 30% off dinner: *Becomes a club venue on some weekends(Asian promoters). Not sure where would people dance though; center communal tables looked bolted to the floor.
