I can’t believe I haven’t ever written a review for Private I Salon! I would give this place 10 stars of I could! I’ve been going to Ken at Private I for over 10 years. I got a horrible hair cut at a so-​called-​fancy place and the girl totally messed up my hair. Basically, I am Asian, and you have to cut Asian hair in a certain way because of its texture. It became very obvious that the girl did not know how to cut Asian hair. My friend recommended Ken, and he totally fixed my hair. I thought it would take a few visits for him to fix my horrible hair cut, but he did it in one visit without having to chop off all my hair. From that day on, I was hooked! I will never see another stylist again. I even moved to the East Coast for the majority of the time that Ken cut my hair, and I would fly back to CA and spend enough time in CA to make sure I could fit in a hair cut from Ken. Another plus is that I can eat at one of the many amazing food places near Private I before or after my appointment! =)

I have been going to see Ken for over three years and the friend that recommended me to him has been going to him for almost 15 years. What I like about Ken other than he doing a great job every time is that I like to change my hairstyle often and all I have to do is show him a pic on my phone and he does it to perfection. Jen and the entire team there is awesome so if you’re not lucky enough to get a short notice appointment anyone there will do fine too.

My friend told me about her experience… the employees were nice but seems to not know what they were doing. The 1 session lasted almost 7 HOURS! That is almost 7 hrs of bleaching and bleach toning in 1 Sitting! Hair n scalp were completely damaged and color didn’t come out how she requested it! Every stylist knows to achieve a lighter color, it must be done in more than 1 session… She wanted an light brown w/​ash blonde highlights but received a bleach blonde with copper tones! It was a NIGHTMARE when I saw her! And the length they took away was crazy! 6 inches to make her hair «healthier» but killed it with their bleaching! Cutting and styling should be done after coloring. The guy stylist couldn’t even cut or curl her hair with a flat iron properly! His assistant wasn’t very good at helping him with coloring also. I guess her first experience was the worst! WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! A NIGHTMARE! Everyone knows women are sensitive about their hair. They need to be more professional and considerate to their customers. If they can’t do the work just say so! Would have took the $ 200 and went else where instead!

I moved to the city a few months ago and it’s hard to find someone you’d trust with your hair– came here since it’s not too far from my house and had good ratings on Unilocal.Since my first cut– Ken has been my go to guy. He is patient and knows what he is doing. Place is clean and friendly staff.

So after a year, 2 hairstyle changes, and 18 haircuts (once every three weeks) Lisa is awesome! Keeps me looking sharp and I get compliments from the females!

Alright, before I say anything, let me say this… My haircut was only $ 30. $ 30! You know how hard it is to find that price here in the city? A $ 30 good haircut for a female!
Ok, let’s continue. My appointment with another salon fell through and I literally called 5 – 6 other salons in the area who were all booked and busy before calling Private I, who although busy, still took me in as a client. That’s awesome. I appreciate it!
Even though I came in as a last minute client, the stylist (who I believe his name was Ken?) spent quite a while cutting my hair. I have shoulder length hair and wanted a bob, but with one side longer than the other. Showed him some pictures and he understood immediately what I wanted. He did a great job! And I’m VERY picky with my hair, trust me. When he was done I asked if he could cut it shorter on one side. He expressed no annoyance and did it right away.
I was so happy I threw in a $ 10 tip and left with a smile. But wait, it’s CASH ONLY ladies and gents! This salon has been open for around a year and a half now. I would definitely recommend anyone to check this place out instead of heading to the more expensive salons who may have more reviews. Don’t expect a super fancy treatment though but expect your hair to be cut, and cut right — which is all that really matters :). This place is worth it!

So Lisa is very nice. This place is awesome for kids and girls,
but for men who do not want that same haircut every Asian guy gets, (short mullet), this is not a good place to go. I couldn’t help but be polite the entire time, and leave a good tip, but I am very disappointed with my mullet, and will have to pay to have it fixed… yuck!!!
Sorry Lisa, you are soo nice, and I shouldn’t expect more for 18 $ haircut, but it’s just not a good style and I wish you would learn to cut different styles, and maybe offer them?
I need to find a European run Salon that has stylists, and just pay 40+$ for my next haircut cuz this just drives me crazy

My friend refer me to Ken. he was very nice and did great job on my hair. I love my hair!!! thank you very much~ i will come back for sure. make sure you call to make appt if you plan to go there during weekend because they always get fully book.

When Lisa was working for Ben in a big hair salon on Irving Street many years ago when she first cut my hair. I was so impressed by her skills that I always asked for her. She later left that salon and opened up her own salon on Clement Street. It took me a while to find her and ever since then, Lisa has been my hairdresser. It has been at least 15 years.
The new place on Geary Blvd. is clean, spacious and tastefully decorated. Moreover, it’s closer to where I live. I personally have never seen one unhappy customer in the salon. Both Lisa and Ken are friendly and they always chat with customers I keep going back to their salon because of their friendliness, good prices and most importantly their skills. There are tons of hair salons, (cheaper ones too) to choose from up and down on Clement and Geary. When you are satisfied at one place, why bother go elsewhere.

This spot is great. If I wanted something different they would certainly be able to help me pull it off. The place is clean & simple. The cuts are great & style is on point.

Been a long time since I was able to find anybody that can cut my hair consistently, and be able to deliver the style I want every single time. I bounce around several salons all over San Francisco, but never found a stylist that was able to give me a cut with some «style» to it. I rocked the buzz cut back in the days and anybody can do that. Even the seven dollar Chinatown barbers can do that without blinking.
I met up with my cousin one day and thought that his haircut was really good, and asked him where he got it. He told me Private I salon. He said he’s been getting his haircut by Ken for many years, and he drives up from San Jose every time for his hair cut. His hair cut was trendy, the kind of style that you see in magazines and TVs all over Asia and all those K-​pop videos. I had to have it.
To me, the most important part of a really good haircut, is the ability for someone (like me) to be able set it just the way I had it when I left the salon. Lisa taught me the correct way to blow dry my hair and also an easy way to style it so I can replicate the hair style every single day.
I’ve been here a total of three times and every single time, I’ve left the salon completely satisfied with my haircut and the way it turned out. CONSISTENCY! is what I couldn’t find with the other stylists but Lisa, been able to deliver every single time.
I will definitely a returning customer for many years to come.

Known Ken and Lisa for over 10 years now and Ken has always done a good job with my haircut. They’re both super friendly and their new location is very spacious and much better than the old salon! Definitely give this salon a try!

Ken always does a good job on my husband’s hair. He is very professional and friendly… My husband is the type that is very picky on his hair style. He is satisfied every time.

Lisa is the best. I have been coming to her for 12 years and she has always given me a great cut. I got the thermal straigtening twice and was very happy with it both times, it lasted about a year. I moved to Oregon and I still wait until I fly back to the Bay to get my haircut by her. She is really affordable and hasn’t raised her prices the entire time I have been going to her.

My FAVORITE salon in San Francisco! I came here for hair straightening (Japanese hair straightening) and I’m so happy with the result :) Lisa did a great great job! She’s so friendly & nice, I am so happy with Lisa.

Been going to Lisa to cut my hair since 2008. The first time I had my hair cut there was to fix some other persons mistake from another salon. Love their new location, too. Lisa and Ken always provide the best service. I highly recommend this place.

Just visited Lisa and Ken at their new location. Super clean and nice. Lisa is my go to person for over 12 years now. ;-) super attentive and always know how to adjust my hairstyle bases on my request. They are the best!

Lisa is an arrogant piece of work. Prices will be higher than advertised. «Today’s price is $ 25, for simple cut, because of holiday» WTF? That’s not the price your sign shows. You could’ve told me this before I sat down. Don’t go here for Chinese New Year. Rip off!!!
