UPDATE: The product does in fact look and sound good. But I would still caution folks that communication with their clients isn’t Pirates Press’ forte. If I weren’t ordering a product that’s only available through PP(which is pretty cool in itself), I’d probably be working with a manufacturer with more traditional project management. ______________________________________________________________ I’m only beginning to work with Pirates Press, but so far their customer service is lacking in a few key areas. I contacted PP a week after placing my order to inquire about a production schedule. There wasn’t one. Then a few days later — even after approving the art proof — that’s when they decided to inform me that my requested deadline would not be possible. My order was placed on the 29th of May, and the master isn’t being cut until the the 26th of June — almost a month later. That’s a little longer than any other vinyl press I’ve worked with in the past, and expectations could have been set up front. Most project managers are more organized than this. So their end product will have to be pretty stellar.

Pirate’s Press is great, they’ve managed to work on timelines that border the miraculous under less than ideal conditions. With the exception of the rare release that would be outside of their scope(read that as: CRAZY custom jacket), I am a fierce proponent of PIrates Press and will recommend them to anybody I know that can afford to press a record. And to show how much I respect them, I will not even embarrass myself by making a pirate style noise here.

To be fair, my experience with these guys occurred a few years ago, when they were at another location. Hopefully all the people I dealt with were eventually fired, because they were the rudest, laziest bunch of hipster douche bags I have had the pleasure of working with. I had a number of CD and vinyl orders that I placed with them… all were botched. Eventually I was force to finish up with another pressing company(Cravedog), and had my work finished there, without incident and for the same price. THEN Pirates Press billing had the nerve to pester me regarding paying for the botched work… even after I had ended up spending $ 2,600 on the entire deal. I never got a chance to tell my story, which I learned later was not unusual. Honestly, if they had behaved in a professional manner(i.e., returning phone calls, being respectful to their clients, not taking forrrrrrrrrreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr to finish their work), I probably would not have had such a bad impression about them. I see that they have moved onward and upward out of a residence in the Outer Richmond and into a nice shop. I hope that their level of professionalism has expanded along with their digs.

Chunk is the shit… and he works there. 1. Donated some Pirate’s schwag to the B.A.D.Girls. 2. AND he found some comic books lost by a wayward drunken B.A.D. Girl after a night of debauched awesomeness AND returned them to their rightful owner. She’s stoked. 3. Bought beer from us @ Folsom Street Fair 4. Printed the Kowloon Walled City red and the black & silver disks. Which are beautiful. I am gonna assume that the business is run with the same amount of personal finesse that Chunk has. If it’s not, then maybe he should be the CEO.

Agree with Ryan P. I’ve been fucked by vinyl and CD manufacturing middlemen too many times to count, so it’s refreshing to deal with such a cool bunch of guys who go the extra step to ensure your project looks and sounds exactly to your specifications. I can’t say enough good things about ‘em.

These guys are the best vinyl manufacturers I’ve ever worked with. Every project we’ve done has been on-time and we’ve had updates at every stage. From project management to final product I couldn’t be happier. The even answer the phone and return your calls.
