I made a call-in purchase since I’m in Los Angeles. It took me 2 tries to get someone to answer the phone. Jody, the store manager, told me when she picked up that she was the only one there and was swamped… so she got my number and told me she’d call me back. A few hours later, she called me back and was very helpful in locating my friend(I only had the room number and no idea which building he’s in). I told her I wanted something«happy» and below a certain price point… she told me she can make this pretty arrangement and would get delivered very shortly. An hour later, my friend told me he has gotten the flowers and they were beautiful. The whole experience was very easy and fast. I can’t speak for the actual experience in person, but overall I was very pleased with my purchase via phone.

This is the gift shop in the California Pacific Medical Center. It has limited hours. It’s operated to help the medical center, so don’t expect to find sales per se or inexpensive prices. Considering that many of the patients at the medical center are elderly, I was surprised to see nothing in large print in the very small magazine rack. I bought my mother-in-law a crossword puzzle book and asked if they sold pens or pencils. Yes, just one, an angel pen for $ 3.00 which didn’t write very well. While there was a flower stand outside the shop, there were no flowers to be purchased. The store’s layout is also not conducive to finding goods except for the high end stuff out front. I think they could do a better job of merchandise selection and layout for the visitors and patients in the medical center.
