Visited on a Sunday afternoon, not terribly packed but halfway through our experience, the restaurant filled up! Nonetheless, service was still attentive. We originally wanted tabletop cooking but upon seeing the price and minimum order of 2, we opted not to. My husband ordered the bulgogi and I had the soon dubu jigae. The bulgogi was on the sweeter side, the jigae was good but not brothy enough. Both were good but pretty pricey, so we felt it was ok. For the price charged, we expected it to be a little more exciting. Overall, an ok visit. Will try others before coming back.

Unlike others, service was decent but food was terrible. We had the seafood pancake, beef soup, and pork belly. They told us if we order one plate of meat we couldn’t grill it in front of us and they would have to cook it. We agreed but these came as dry as rubber. For like 8 slices of rubber that had mild bacon flavor, 20 dollars is a bit ridiculous. Pancake was mediocre and not memorable. The best was the beef broth, but it’s not good enough to come here just for that.

Overpriced, poor service, and the rice was inedible. Ignored by staff most of the evening.

My review is entirely for the service we got. We went here for lunch on a Sunday. It wasn’t so crowded then, maybe with 7 tables open. We love to go to New Korea House during special occasions, this time it was my mom’s birthday. Everything went fine, we ordered our usual, food is great! We then asked our server, a guy with glasses, to take a picture of us, and he’s like«No, I’m busy» It’s a special day, and we wanted to just preserve a memory, pretty sure it won’t take a minute! We understand if it’s busy, but he could have said, «it’s busy now — and maybe later?» Anyway, when we were talking about it within our family at our table, the guy server gave rude replies about how we cannot comment on it. When we asked another server, what the guy’s name is, she said she does not know. Completely covering up for him. She gave us some sweet rice dish as a compensation for what happened, maybe? But meh. Overall, food is good, flavorful but a bit pricey. Check them out especially if you want a rude waiter!

I had pretty high expectations for something in Japantown. I know Korean food is not the same as Japanese, but I was thinking anything Asian in an Asian part of town should be amazing. I wasn’t that impressed, though. Not the best KBBQ I’ve had. I DO like that it’s only 2 min for bbq at table instead of the entire party, like several other places I’ve visited. The bulgogi grill at table was the best — not too sweet, like it usually is for me. Strange though because the bulgogi lunch special(which is cooked in the back) tasted differently. That one was too sweet. The pork belly grill at table tasted like a healthy version? I don’t know how else to explain it, but it was not that good. BUT she did split checks for every one of us in our party of 11. So I’m flipping back and forth between a 2 and 3. Let’s go with 2.5. rounding up to 3.

We have been eating at the New Korea House a few years ago. When we came back we were very surprised about the renovations they have done to the restaurant. We liked it even more than before. Great atmosphere, very nice service and great food. We had the Bibim Bap and it was great. They were generous with extra vegetables and Kim Chi. I do recommend this place, I think it’s great.

Ordered bibimbaq, nothing surprising, just average. Price a little higher than what I would pay for.

This is a really decent Korean restaurant. As someone who lived in Korea for a year and a half I can also say it is traditional. It is expensive so not a place I would go often. The Korean pancake was good as was the kimchi soup. I would have expected more side dishes be provided as is traditional in Korea. The side dishes were limited to kimchi, Ming beans and tofu but at the price there should be some more. The service was good and the guy working there was helpful.

This is a solid Korean restaurant in SF. The banchan tastes almost homemade and I was a huge fan of the beef soon dubu. It was really good as leftovers! The grilled mackerel was good and I also recommend trying the dolsot bibimbap. Service is decent and good luck finding parking in Japantown :)

3.5 stars. The bbq and little side dishes are all pretty good. Kind of pricey though. Expect dinner entrees to be around $ 25 – 30 a person. Dinner is do-it-yourself grill at the table. So you will smell like bbq afterwards. I recommend the bulgogi(bbq beef), pork belly(almost like bacon, to be dipped in sesame sauce), bbq chicken and tofu soup. Portions could be bigger, but we got a second bowl of rice in order to be full. No wait for a seat on a Saturday night. They offer lunch specials on weekday afternoons. Lunch is cooked in the kitchen.

TERRRRRIBLE! Don’t ever like to leave a bad review but this place was awful! Should have known walking through the door at 8pm on a Saturday night and it not even being half full! We ordered the Kalbi and the pork to grill ourselves. The Kalbi was probably the worst meat I’ve ever had! So chewy I had to spit it out! The pork had ZERO seasoning on it. Service was fast which was nice but completely lacked any personality. STAYAWAY!

Very Disappointed. It was either between here or the next door KoreanBBQ. Apparently my boyfriend and I made the wrong choice. Were from Fresno so there’s not a lot of Korean BBQ places there, so every opportunity we go out of town we find one. We came to this one and will not be returning ever again. First of all, we came in and no one was in sight to help. We stood there like idiots. Then finally this guy comes and sat us down. He gave us our menus and walked away. No one noticed if we were first timers(which we were) or not, so we were confused about the menu but we figured it out anyways. Took 10 minutes for us to get the waiter’s attention. We ordered the dinner special for 2(dinner A). And he said OK. We waited an extra 10 for the first part of our food. Then added on another 15 mintues for our meat and the rest of our order to come out. The raw meat was VERY bland. Not even salt on it, we had to put our own table salt on it. The only good thing was the stir fry clear noodle, dumpling soup, and the kimchi radish. Funny cuz they’re side dishes. Anyways, poor service. No one came to ask us how we were doing and I had chase down this lady for a glass of water. The water was in a little glass cup. Also, the waiting line grew longer and it took 30 or more minutes for anyone to notice those people waiting for a table. This place is just horrible. I thought the food was bad but my bill came even worse. I understand things are pricey but this meal was the most priciest Korean BBQ I’ve ever paid for. If you’re reading this and thinking about dining here, don’t waste your time. Take my advice.

One of my lil sisters has been dying to get her hands on some authentic Korean food. Originally we were supposed to go to Oakland and roam around, but ended up here because it was close proximity to Japantown. We can in around 3:30 in the afternoon and there was no now in the restaurant, but we were seated quickly and the waiter was really nice. I am pretty unfamiliar with this food, but my sister pretty much knew what everything was. We got three entrée: a soft tofu soup with pork(Soondubu Jjigae), another soup with shredded beef and glass noodles(Yuk Gae Jang), and a rice dish with chicken(Dolset Bimibap). and for Apps we got Dumplings(Mandu) and a beef scallion pancake(Pajeon). It happened to be a lot of food in the end, because beside what we ordered, we got a ton of sides(banchan), all of which were pretty darn tasty. Our lil sister was with us and she’s a pretty picky eater, but she liked everything. The soups were both hearty and very filling. My soup was actually a family style dish and the tofu one was more of a single person serving. The apps were freaking awesome! I would seriously have the pancake or the mandu as a meal, and the dipping sauce that accompanied them was really good. The dolset bimibap was pretty good from what I tasted, and my sister loved the chicken that was in it. I tried to get her to mix the whole thing(which is what you’re supposed to do), especially because it was served in a hot stone to crisp up the rice. Overall the meal was filling and tasty, i think with all the food we ordered you could have fed a table of 6 rather than 3, lol. This place will be seeing me again soon.

The Rib eye was very good. Some sides were more to my taste then others but overall a good korean spot to possibly hit up uf your in town. The meat was cooked in the kitchen instead of in front of me, I prefer in front of me but if you dont mind its ok.

Went here on a cold foggy SF day and the spicy tofu soup, surely hit the spot! Their Banchan, side dishes, was of a fair variety. Their Bibimbap was decent — it didn’t have that rice crunch on the bottom as much as I would have liked. Also, they didn’t provide the rice barley tea that I ideally prefer to add when finishing up my Bibimbap. Their Seafood Pancake had too much of a thick cut green onion to it and not enough seafood pieces in the pancake itself. The meal was generally pricey($ 60 for 2) for mediocrity, but it filled my craving for spicy soup! Service was attentive, but can’t say to that much because it was only about 3 tables that they were serving. Ultimately, it sufficed! Where to next?!

10÷10÷13. Dinner It’s a fact that there isn’t enough competition or demand to drive down the prices of Korean BBQ down in San Francisco. There are well-established Korean restaurants in town but they are not in the league of the ones I have in LA. So…you just have to own up to the choices you have here without spend an arm and leg. New Korea House serves very decent BBQ for the prices they charge. The menu is almost identical to that of Seoul Garden in side the Japan Center. My BF never had Korean BBQ so this time we only ordered meat. Their appetizers are pretty good. The Haemul Pajon($ 19.95) is a savory pancake with shrimp, squid, and clam is my favorite. If you want something of a smaller portion, get the Mung Bean Pancake($ 3) and nosh over Soju. For the evening we tried beef and chicken. At New Korea House, you can BBQ yourself with two or more orders of meat. *Bulgogi($ 20.95): very tender and tasty marinated ribeye. I recommend bulgogi for first-timer. Beef sliced very thin with a tiny but of fat on the edge, making the grill sizzle when you cook. It takes only a few minutes to BBQ half a batch. Eat with rice or wrap the beef with the lettuce. *Ro Su Gui($ 20.95): this is the same sliced beef but not marinated, served only with sesame oil and salt. If you’re getting the bulgogi, try to eat the unmarinated beef first. *Dak Gui($ 19.95): lackluster compared to the beef. Boneless chicken breast strips marinated with soy. Since chicken has to be fully cooked, after bring BBQ on the grill for a while, chicken became dry. BF agreed we can skip the chicken next time! The overall meal was very sumptuous, with all-you-can-eat ban chai. Kimchi, sweet potato, pickled radish, bean sprouts, glazed nuts, seaweeds and jasmine rice. Service is attentive enough. Price is reasonable. They don’t take reservation, so get there early on weekends. We were the first party for dinner at 7 on Friday night but the place filled up quickly about halfway through our meal.
