This is a no frills studio which helps to make the cost of lessons affordable. The owners are very nice and responsive. The lesson space is small but well sound proofed and you don’t hear other lessons in progress. My only con, I’m not sure this is the best place for a first time learner. Our instructor was very nice, but was not the right fit for my under 7 year old child. We have since found a studio with an instructor that better matches our needs. The fundamentals have now been addressed and my child is far more engaged than when we were at Music City Academy. Everyone has different learning styles, but for our little learner the method of instruction at Music City Academy was too rushed and the basics were glossed over. I would recommend this studio for more advanced musicians.

My boyfriend bought me a violin for my birthday and it took me a while to finally get around to taking lessons and when I did, I contacted this place. We’re perhaps a month or so into my lessons and it’s been great. They are really understanding and willing to work with my schedule at all times(which is especially important when you have a full time job and a commute that is anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour [no, THANKYOU N-LINE]). My instructor has been fantastic and the rooms have been great.

I only just started to rent a piano room from them once a week to teach singing and I have to say that Fei and Kau are the NICEST and most HONEST people I’ve met in a very long time! They are consciencious and really care about you. I highly recommend them for practice rooms. I bet they run a great music school, too, although I haven’t taken lessons there. But they have great character and so I bet they do a really good job with it. The pianos are tuned regularly and the rates are great. :) Ellie

This is a great place for learning a new instrument. I’m taking cello lessons and my instructor is top notch. Very knowledgeable, an excellent musician, and a great teacher for both kids and adults. The price is right on. The reception folks are always corteous and well organized. The only downsides are sometimes parking on Irving can be tough and the building management(not Music City’s mgt) needs to take care of some water damage issues.

Alex helps me to prepare for my piano teaching certificate and I pass the test. He also helps my friend got accepted into SFSUBM program. The professors at SFSU say he is the best piano player at the audition. Alex was a conservatory professor at Russia. An unbeatable starting rate of $ 42/hr!

For a local Sunset music school, this one is top notch. The new management since January 2008, Fei and Raymond, are considerate and dependable. The place is right on Judah upstairs from a produce market, but its hardwood floors and new walls make it feel like you really are in a different world. The teachers — of violin, piano, cello, and singing — work well with kids and adults. My daughter started piano there a couple of months ago and her teacher Chad gives a lots praise, and introduces new music in gradual easy steps. Give it a try — the first lesson is free!

2 stars. I went here for a couple of years — met my violin teacher here and then decided to quit coming here and just goto private lessons at her house instead. Smartest choice I made, because they started hiking up fees like crazy. Why three stars? Besides the fee hike, my little sister(who was taking piano lessons there) and I got locked IN once. Not OUT, but IN. Don’t ask me how it happened, it’s a lonnnng story. Anyway, we were there for a good 30 minutes until that girl came back from whatever she was doing and opened the door for us… she’s lucky I’m not claustrophobic. Had a couple of recitals. Was freezing most of the time. Just overall okay. Not the BEST though.

Inexpensive place to practice, jam or give lessons. There is only one large room with a piano and room for drums, but on weekends, the bleed from the smaller rooms makes recording not an option. Parking is OK on Irving, but the meters have 1 hour maximums so you need to keep a large stash of coins. Need to reserve about a week ahead for the large rehearsal room, and also to verify that there is a piano in the smaller rooms, since all rooms may not have one. Pretty good deal, have to climb up two sets of stairs, and a little too noisy for recording, but great place to practice and rehearse, with very fair fees.
