My Loan is awesome. Besides being incredibly skilled at cutting hair, she has that elusive quality that is even more important when it comes to getting your hair cut: she really listens. She listens to what you like, what you don’t like, what you know works well for your hair, doesn’t work well — and she takes it all in and incorporates it into her cut (if you want her to!). She is an expert at her craft, but also has a ton of humility and flexibility. She is also fun to talk to and really nice. Huge fan.

Iva Curcija is the best hair stylist I’ve ever known and that is saying a lot. I’ve been to a LOT of different salons, but not only is Iva the most knowledgeable, she is always up to date on the trends and knows exactly what to do to make my hair look exactly how I want it. Her consultation was amazing and she took the quality time to figure out exactly what I wanted and made great suggestions on how to get me there. I wanted a balayage that was bold and she got my blonde exactly where I wanted it. I’ve always had problems with other stylists being to subtle when I really wanted a big change!!! Even though it took 5 hours because she kept my hair so healthy so as not to cause any damage, the appointment went by so fast because she has such a loving, wonderful personality. I would recommend her to anyone. She has so much good experience and she is a hair master making so much magic!!!

Asian hair to blonde, blended, neutral platinum with an ash brown root has been a pipe dream for me. But alas, such goddess-​like hair is for the Arika Satos of the world (Instagram her now) with her glam squad Guy Tang (YouTube him) with thousands to spend per appointment. Or maybe it is for the lucky girls who can go to celebrity colorist beScene (Instagram him) on the East Coast and also have a lamb or first born child at their disposal as a sacrifice. The idea that little ol’ me could get such glam hair color seemed impossible short of winning the lottery. Countless highlighting appointments at other salons and hundreds of dollars later, I was a gorgeous coppery dirty blonde. I was told, «this what is possible and looks appropriate on you.» While this was super pretty, is was still not the dream.
But never fear! Hair colorist hero Iva and her side kick (in the salon specially for my hair) Royce will save the day! Our very own Bay Area hair star has arrived to shine bright and make you a «beIVA Tang» hair bestie! She has 9 years of hair experience, had taught at Paul Mitchell’s beauty school, and been a disciple of Guy and bScene for ages. Color correction to platinum or even crazy rainbow color blends are easily in reach for Iva – she knows her stuff ya’ll!
Iva and I immediately connected during a drive-​by hair consultation at the Union St fair. She started talking about everything Guy Tang with infectious enthusiasm and I knew I just had to give this a shot because… YOLO (is that even a thing any more?).
I walked in for my appointment and 7 hours (yes Unilocaly loves, 7 hours) later I had the hair of my dreams with virtually no damage or loss of length! But never fear the long processing time, Iva is a gem of a person that you will have no trouble connecting with over this extended hair date. From exciting stories to the meaning of life, Iva will easily keep you entertained. If you are not a talker at the salon, no worries! She is also really sweet and professional and they have all the latest People magazines you could ask for… and Nespresso… mmm… coffee…
Why does it take 7 hours? Not because of any lack of efficiency. Iva and Rocye worked like a well oiled machine and with surprising quickness. This color correction is simply a beast of a project to slay. If you are a hair color nerd keep reading. Otherwise you can skip this paragraph or look at my picture collage that is the short version. #1: Iva put a low volume developer, high end lightener, and b3 bond builder (which maintains the integrity of your hair) on all of my hair-​using balayage technique. She let it process with NO HEAT until it lifted enough. This takes a while but is as low damage as you can get.
#2: Repeat in select areas. Again, with no heat and expert balayage skills!
#3: We all ate Thai Food ordered on Eat24 (free plug for you Unilocal food delivery app).
#4: Applied a base ashy color to my roots, eventually smudging it down a bit for a breathtaking blend.
#5: Toned the yellow out of the platinum blonde parts.
#6: Conditioned, trimmed (highly recommend the «million dollar layer» Iva does that does not cost a million dollars) and styled.
Just like that (and some inevitable uncomfortableness of my scalp from being messed with so much) I have achieved hair that no amount of gradual highlighting will ever achieve. I am simply in awe of this new process and way of achieving platinum blonde on tricky hair like mine. I’m now a pretty pretty princess!

Silvana is my hair guru! I go to her for my color and she always delivers. I always come in to see her with the most pain in the ass ideas for what I want and she lets me know the reality, what is actually achievable and the finished product is always better than what I thought was possible in the first place. She also does great blowouts and I always leave feeling hot as f%^& and I have Silvana to thank for that! She is the best and I think everyone should go to her to get their hair done!!!

Amber has been cutting and coloring my hair for a while now. She always takes the time to figure out what I want and always delivers. She really is passionate about men’s cutting and coloring!

Great Experience at ML hair studio yesterday! All of the staff was friendly and made me feel comfortable. Amber was an excellent stylist! She asked me what I wanted and always double checked to make sure my hair was how I wanted it. Top notch service! Will definitely be returning.

Iva was spectacular! I came in with pink hair wanting to go back to my natural color with an hour till they close, and she was able to squeeze me in and totally give me exactly what I wanted; color and cut. The salon itself is beautiful and clean and they have lots of libations to choose from. Iva was so personable and super easy to talk to and was a great listened. Even though it was late, she still took her time perfecting everything so I ended up with a beautiful color and the perfect cut, just the way I like it. Definitely recommend Iva to everyone who wants a color correction, color, or cut!

I had the best experience at ML Hair Studio. My Loan got started on my hair exactly on time. I had booked a full head of foiled highlights as well as a Brazilian Blowout and trim. The process was long and tedious but My Loan took her time and the appointment did not feel rushed by any means. I was there for 6+ hours but it didn’t feel like that long because she’s a pleasure to talk to and so knowledgeable about her craft. It’s amazing how she was able to get rid of the brassiness in my hair and turn it into different shades of blonde with essentially no damage. The Brazilian Blowout also feels incredible, I don’t think my hair has ever felt this smooth. I will definitely be coming back!

Have gotten my hair cut by My Loan the last two months. She’s nothing sort of spectacular. Her level of service, attention to detail, and end result are second to none. Prior to coming here, I would get my hair cut at SuperCuts. While there is certainly a difference in pricing, the service and quality of the hair cut is well worth it. I will continue coming back and visiting My Loan in the future! New comers won’t be disappointed, I sure wasn’t!

I’m in the military so I move a lot and I’m always leery of finding a new stylist. Thankfully I found Amber while I was in California and she gave me excellent service! I got my hair relaxed and cut and I’ve never had it done so well. Her technique and attention to detail is amazing! I recommend Amber to anyone. She really knows her stuff! I was walking up Union and decided it was time for a much needed cut. Iva at ML Studio helped me out and she was absolutely awesome! I didn’t give her much direction on the style I wanted, but I came away with an awesome look. She’s professional, has a really high attention to detail and does an absolutely awesome job! I recommend Iva and ML Studio to anyone looking for a great style at a really reasonable price.

I stopped into this new salon on a whim. So glad to know that they are open Sunday and Monday. The salon is wonderful; clean and professional. They use Kerastase products and they smell so yummy. Anyways I tried the salon for a blow dry and I am so happy and feel beautiful. Iva was my stylist and I cannot recommend her more — she will be doing my cut and color as soon as I need it. Can’t suggest this place more.

ML has been doing my color and Brazilian Blowouts for years, and she is the best. My old hairdresser kept my hair too dark — she liked it that color, but hello, it’s my hair — and swore it couldn’t be lightened back to its natural chestnut color. ML fixed it in one session, no problem and no damage. And her Brazilian Blowouts are perfect! She also does great up-​dos.

This review is long over due. I love what My Loan dies with my hair. I have naturally very curly hair and It’s not easy to find a good stylist. But My Loan knows exactly what to do from color (she uses all nutrient color line) to cut and updos. She did my hair for my wedding reception at city Hall and I couldn’t be happier!!! Definitely recommend her!
