I personally really liked it. We ordered one sukiyaki nabe and tempura appetizer to share. It was a good portion for two people. We didn’t get too full and still had some space for Icecream. I really like their soup. It wasn’t too salty or too sweet. Also Dashi kicked in perfectly in my opinion. I’m giving them 4 stars because their service was too slow when there were many empty tables. We had to raise our hands to get attentions for everything. Maybe it was just one of these days. Overall we would still love to come back for nabe!

We left the bar when our friend never returned from the bathroom. Being back in San Francisco was too temping for his weak white knuckling soul. We concluded that he probably ditched us to go on a quick drug binge. It was the perfect scenario because his wife thought he was with us. After we left the bar we went to Mifume Restaurant for a quick bite to eat. I have fond memories of this place from the 90’s. My friend ordered the curry beef, I ordered the chicken katsu curry and we shared a shrimp tempura. Everything was fine for the food that we ordered. The following day my friend texted me to say he has food poisoning from his curry beef. I mean he was sick the whole day and wasn’t able to join us for dinner. Didn’t think much about it, I just thought«it happens.» And oddly enough I had to go back to Mifune the next day because I left a container of ceremonial grade matcha green tea there. Upon my arrival I asked the hostess if they found a container of green tea. She quickly looked in the drawer and said«no.» Then I asked if she could check with the staff to see if they have seen it. She looked around, shrugged her arms and said«if it is not in the drawer it is not here» «someone probably threw it away.» Do I believe her? I’ll let you put the pieces together. This is a Japanese restaurant that serves green tea everyday. They are not going to throw away green tea of any kind. How should I look at this? You tried to kill my friend and steal from me. Well that is pretty extreme. Or the quality of excellence has been down graded from what I remember from the past.

Bland food, rude service. The host was aloof. Our waitress was extremely rude. Appetizers came after our meal. Food is just so so.

Cold soba and udon with shrimp and vegetable tempura served on a boat, yes please. I have never tried any of the restaurants down this strip of the mall, so I just went into the first one that was open on a Saturday. We were seated immediately and while the restaurant was not completely full, many of the tables were full. There were plenty of choices on the menu, but we wanted to try their noodles. I was not sure if I wanted to try their sob or their udon, so when I saw that I had the option to try both, I was happy. The Mifune special is served in a boat. An assortment of vegetable tempura and a single shrimp tempura are presented on a bed of soba and udon. Cold broth, green onions, daikon, and wasabi are served on the side as well as a a small dish of pickled cabbage. The noodles were decent and I liked that the daikon they served with it. I wish they had more of the texture that the noodles in Japan have, but for America it’s ok. The tempura was disappointing because the way they cut and fry the onions, it leaves them on the raw and crunchy side. Overall, the food is ok. I might try something else if I visit again like a hot noodle dish but I would not make a trip our here specifically for the food.
