These tiny speakeasies are all the rage nowadays but none are as old skool as the shark bar. I’m still a bit unclear as to who«Michelle» is and the bartender was not forthcoming. And by far one of my favorite negronis evah!!! Also try anything with the lemon shrub!!! So perfect.

The proprietor made us a Tiger Shark, which was a sort of grown up mimosa with gin and pernod. Delightful atmosphere, good stories. Very difficult to find, but totally worth it. This is probably my favorite bar in San Francisco. I’ve been to speakeasies in multiple cities, but have never had to jump through as many hoops to get in to a place. It’s just as much a part of the experience as hanging out there. And once you are in, the staff makes you feel really welcome, even cooking up snacks If you get hungry. I will definitely be back.

I’ve been to Michelle’s Shark Bar twice now, and by far it is my favorite location. A fair mix of speakeasy and high-class, while maintaining a warm sense of community — it’s a place you feel like you should wear your pajamas, while drinking well-crafted cocktail and discussing philosophy with the proprietor. Good ingredients change the atmosphere entirely, and while the inventory is limited in diversity, the consistent high quality and creative flair makes up for it. Do not ask for an Appletini. You will be evicted.
