Traditional food, Made to order plates, affordable prices and a nice family behind the business. What more could you ask for. If you like spicy ask for a side of their habanero hot sauce, go easy it is strong!! t

I had dinner with a friend here tonight. He’s Yucateco, by the way. We had Cochinita Pibil and Salado de Puerco. Both of them were very good. The salado was crispy around the edges, nicely salty, still tender and juicy inside. It was served with pureed black beans(Yucatecan style) and pickled onions & cabbage. The cochinita pibil was juicy and tender, very flavorful, served with lime wedges, cabbage, and onions. We also ordered a bit of guacamole(I don’t think it’s on the menu, but we asked and they made it for us) and hojaldre with ham and cheese for appetizers. I was pleased with our dinner. My friend from the Yucatan said everything was delicious, and reminded him of home. We’ll definitely go back.

Living in the neighborhood, I walk past Mi Yucatan everyday, and I finally stopped in at dinner to give it a chance. Unfortunately, it will likely be my last visit. I ordered the pork cooked in banana leaves, and my friend ordered the fried chicken. I have never seen a meal come out swimming in so much oil — and that’s the pork! The chicken had a rubbery texture and not a lot of flavor. Not long later I began to feel ill from the amount of oil I couldn’t shake off the pork. Mi Yucatan gets two stars for subpar food, albeit with very kind service. Just be prepared to make any requests in Spanish.

Time: 1:16pm/70°F clear Purpose: Stop by to let the people know that their address is wrong on Unilocal listing. After verifying, I ask how long you’ve been open? Owner tells me two months. I then ask have you never heard of Unilocal before? He said no. So, I said heres what Unilocal does and intro him to a few pointers on business side. Ambiance: Place is a 34 seater with couple of paintings, flatscreen, cold beverage fridge, makeshift counter and freezer storage. Mainly white/blue is the color scheme, but doesn’t match anything inside particularly. Paper cut out hung wall to wall makes the place feel somewhat boring and cold looking. Little to no care was seen place is not group friendly. Music set at low volume that becomes useless if you don’t understand or when noise level of patrons are loud. Staff: One guy up front multitask worker. Does everything from taking order, cashier, deliver food to table, janitorial. He seems stressed a bit, but nevertheless acknowledge your questions on timely manner. Back of house worker prep food didn’t make a appearance outside of kitchen. One more worker up front may just do the trick. Cleanliness: Grade C, table top very sticky I couldn’t slide my utensils on it. Feels like coating on molasses was use. My forearm felt icky not a good feeling. Particle ceiling boards had cracks as well as fraying on corner some barely hanging on. Floor had chicken bones tucked in corner what seems to be a lousy sweep and miss it all. Eats/Drinks: Panuchos and pork tamale both $ 3 ea. Tamale was so below average nothing they say or do can convince me for a return. No way Jose! It tasted frozen like made in advance just toss in steamer for couple of hours. Inside pork were mince up with unknown mix filler. I expected long stringy fiber strands and chunks. The maza was white in color tasted really bland and sauce was already slather on. I guess now I know why they ask me if I wanted hot sauce earlier. It’s bland and they know themselves. Panuchos was so bland, it should be consider free appetizers for HH instead. It looks good with presentation, but look and taste is two separate thing that needs to coincide with each other. Chicken was dried to a point that it could be use for flossing. Refried tortilla was probably refried twice, it was soggy and bland also. Stuffed black bean was grainy with little to no taste. Avacado wasn’t the usual two tone lime green and yellow seen. It was white to mild yellow good indication of unripen. The rest were just fixings to compliment it. Afterwards mouth feels waxy and greasy. May be lard? I don’t know and don’t want to know. Good thing I had a cup of coffee from up the street Mission Pie to wash it down slowly. Main Features: Panuchos and empanizado de puerco. Products/Services: Refer to pictures of menu and prices. Breakfast/lunch/dinner. Takes plastic, dine-in or take out. Punch Lines: Kitschy décor, sanitation questionable, laid back, lackluster ambiance, off putting, quite bland, nothing of of the ordinary, not as great, sleeper, run-down, heart of the Mission District, street parking. Tradeoffs: Below food truck quality. You’re paying for food truck prices with some seating, but food and quality is voided. Final Thoughts: If you’re in the area and don’t mind what they feed you then this is for you. There’s no reason why you should drive across town to come here. Unless its proven to me that there are better to be had here. No one in the place left with a satisfaction smiling face. This may be the worst of the worst that I ever had in a long time. It hurts to give a 2 star review, but its the truth.

This is a new Yucatan restaurant(not to be confused with the now-closed«Mi Lindo Yucatan») that just opened on Mission Street between 24th and 25th at the site of a former Chinese restaurant. Basically, it’s homemade food cooked and served by two sisters from Oxkutzcab in the State of Yucatan, Mexico. The interior is no-frills, but the menu has all the traditional items like panuchos, relleno negro, tamales, cochinita pibil, and poc-chuc. Most entrees are around $ 10.00. Panuchos, tamales, and other appetizers are around $ 3.00 each. We went the first day they opened(August 22), and they already have beer and mimosas for sale. My mimosa was very large and only $ 6.00. The menu is not as extensive as the one at El Castillo Yucateco(my favorite Yucatan place in the City). However, it does have more«American» items like traditional egg breakfasts and hamburgers. We had the panuchos, relleno blanco, and a tamale. All of the items were very good, and the tortillas were handmade. There is habanero hot sauce(kut biik) on all of the tables. My only recommendation is that they provide share plates, as we wound up making a little bit of a mess without them.
