I echo my fellow Unilocaler’s review that Marx & Zavattero have some of the best art in the city! I work with a lot of artists, and a few years ago I was charmed by the likes of William Swanson, Michael Arcega, Libby Black and Paul Mullins. Marx & Zavattero have an amazing eye for talent, and snapped up these artists right away. I love the range and depth of the artwork they show – something for everyone no matter what your tastes or price range. They are always my first stop on the First Thursday Gallery Tour.

One of the best fine art galleries in San Francisco today. These guys are young and fresh having been open only for a few years. Some of the work they show is beginning to hit the museums and feature several artists that have been written about in the major art-pubs. On top of that they are garnering a bit of a national profile maintaining a presence at the annual art fairs in New York, Miami and Chicago. If you don’t really understand art and want to check out something interesting, strange, or just complicated check this place out. They take part in the downtown 1st-Thursday-of-every-month gallery walks so it is very accessible if you just want to have a look-see. Without going into specifics about the art if I had to sum up the overall curatorial vision I would say it focuses on work with unsettling and surreal beauty that is playfully yet seriously executed. That’s inadequate at best but words are just words. Depending on the current show you might find something great. While good art is always a hit or miss experiment this place makes more hits than misses. Do yourself a favor and drop by.
