I hope they’re able to stick around. This is a Thai/Laotian restaurant so we ordered mostly Thai dishes and 1 Laotion dish(papaya salad). We also ordered beef noodle soups, pumpkin curry, veggie delight(veggies sautéed in a light garlic sauce) and drunken noodles. We did an order to go. The inside is very spacious and beautiful inside, however no customers. I’m hoping that it’s because we came in the early evening rather than later. The pumpkin curry was a hit. I ordered the dishes mild — didn’t want to upset anyone’s stomachs. The papaya salad, though, my husband and grandma didn’t like it, it still got finished. The prices are reasonable, more so than Zapp Thai and has more selections of soup and curries, It’s street parking so it might be tricky to find a space.

Ate late lunch here. Street meter parking. Entrees were 8.99 each. I thought food tasted good depending on what you ordered. Neighborhood looked a little run down. Their floor needs a clean and wax because shoe soles felt sticky while walking to table; otherwise the seating area and TV looked okay. Overall food is good. Location and interior needs improvement.

Can I pronounce the name? Hell no. Is this my new favorite take-out and delivery spot for Lao and Thai food? Absolutely. The Tom Kha is top notch. They took one of my favorites and knocked it out of the park. The surprise was the Poh Tak(seafood soup). Huge amounts of seafood, variety, perfect balance of flavors, …will definitely order again. Look, it’s cold outside, and getting colder. We are San Franciscans. We can handle neither extreme heat nor cold(for that matter, neither moderate heat not cold). They do Eat24 takeout, the drivers are very professional and bring all the extras you asked for, and I for one would rather stay home in my Jedi-cloak bathrobe watching Battlestar Galactica while some epic Thai and Lao soup is whisked to my door than venture out in this nonsense. «So say we all» PS: get the fried veggie spring rolls too.

Didn’t try too many things, only the chicken pad see ew, and the shrimp pad see ew, along with two Thai iced teas. Boyfriend said the chicken pad see ew was very good. He would definitely order again! My shrimp pad see ew was good. The only«complaint» was that there weren’t many shrimps. Even so, it definitely was enjoyable. We ordered delivery, and the food came thirty minutes after we ordered!

Ordered from this place since I was looking for atheistic Thai food. I had great expectations from this place since I did come here a few times and ate inside the restaurant. But to my disappointment, the food as mediocre at best. I ordered a Pad Thai and spring rolls. The noodles were drenched in oils, the noodles were over cooked, and worst of all my spring rolls were lettuce wraps with one shrimp in the center! Not going to reorder from this place since my asshole is still suffering from my meal.

Was looking for a late night dinner and saw this place in my neighborhood was open til 10p. Got there around 9:40p and while I hate to be «that person» who shows up around closing time, the friend I was with had dietary restrictions and we were looking for Thai food. To make it worse, the place was empty, meaning they would have to heat up the stove to cook for the last minute diners. But they did and were extremely nice about it which was awesome! The service was amazing from the woman who took our order. I ordered the shrimp fried rice and while I have never been a big fan of Thai fried rice(I prefer Indonesian style and of late Peruvian) their fried rice was very good. I also ordered the panang curry which was exceptional. My friend ordered the Pad Woon Sen: stir fried silver noodle with shrimp, chicken, egg, tomatoes, yellow onion, green onion and vegetable. She wanted more noodles but didn’t want to ask as she feared we already overstepped our bounds by showing up this late but I asked anyway and they were more than happy to give her more at no extra charge. So, with delicious food and remarkable service(as well as a great interior and a pleasant atmosphere), I highly recommend you check this out if you have a craving for Thai food.

I am not very impressed with this place. We ordered Somtum, Sai ou, and Mok Pla. We ordered the Somtum because I didn’t like anchovies in the Lao style papaya salad and told the waiter that we wanted it mild. When the Somtum came, it had strong anchovies smell and was fire hot. They probably did not clean the mortar when they were done making the Lao papaya salad. For its price of $ 8.99, I found Mok Pla to be expensive. It probably had 5 tiny pieces of fish. The waiter told us that Mok Pla is not spicy but it turned out to be spicy. Sai Ou probably came 30 mins after everything else. We had to stop our meal half way to wait for the Sai Ou. The waiters told us that the Sai Ou takes a long time to cook after everything else came out. The chairs in the restaurant were in very bad condition and dirty. The cushion was worn out. When I sat on the chair, I would sink and felt the frame. It was very uncomfortable and hurt my butt.

My experience dining here in a haiku: Sticky surfaces Slow to no service for us Eating here is sad. In more words than a haiku: –Service is slow to nonexistent –The table clothes are all stained –The floor was sticky –Place mat was sticky –The wall was even stained with WHOKNOWSWHAT –Water ~never~ refilled –Had to ask to place order(saw the waiter behind the counter on his phone, and watched him finish up what he was doing on his phone for about 10 seconds before coming to my table) –Had to ask for check Food is aite. Ambiance, service and cleanliness totally overrides anything good about the food. NEVERAGAINNNNNNNNNN!!! D; D; D;

I have been here twice and I have never been disappointed. This place is quite delicious and quite affordable for the amount they serve you. Located in the Excelsior/outer mission, it’s not frequented by your typical SF tourist and is definitely a more local spot. Parking isn’t too bad and you can usually find a spot within 1 – 2 blocks from the restaurant on Mission. Both times I came here, half the tables were full and there was always a good amount of seating. Not sure if there is a peak time but place doesn’t look like it needs a reservation(unless you’re an usually large party). The service is pretty relaxed and casual. You probably will need to get their attention because they tend to leave you alone and enjoy your meal. I would advise not coming here if you are on a time-crunch and want an in-and-out type of dining experience. I highly recommend trying a couple of their Laotian dishes(they have a whole page devoted to it). I personally like #15.Num Tok -.Grilled marinated beef or pork with rice powder, dried chili, red onion, green onion, mint leaves and spicy lime juice, Their pumpkin curry was super delicious — the curry is yellow and so mild in flavor so you can taste the squash and coconut milk. Roti with green curry was very light and buttery. Not too flaky but I know some like their Roti the latter. For dessert, we had the roti with ice cream. We had both Green Tea and Coconut. Depending on what you prefer, you really can’t go wrong. Definitely coming back here again!

Never had laotian food before and when I found this place on Unilocal,I was excited. Ordered the laos sausage, kao poon and the guy recommended #3. All the dishes were very flavorful and we really enjoyed #3. Only complaint I have is I wished they gave us more lettuce. Will be back for more.

This is our first order at Maneelap Srimongkoun. The service is friendly and quick. The food we ordered to go: (1) Tom Yum Soup, it is sour and spicy soup, very nice for the hot summer time. (2) Panang Curry, delicious and milder curry, compare with other kind of Thai curry. (3) Thai Basil(Kra Prow), a little upset because we thought the smell of herb would be stronger. (4) Chicken Satay(4 Pcs), a little upset, the meat didn’t been marinaded well; however, the peanut sauce is delicious. (5) Thai Iced Tea, extremely yummy!!! ^_^ The restaurant is very clean. It looks like a good place for family. If the restaurant has a big signboard, it will help them bring more customers.

If you’re a tad bright and/or understand business’ with social media, you’d know that once a business turns to groupon/living social/etc… it’s the equivalent of a football player’s career going to the raiders(see: down the shitter). Dare I preface this review with a question that keeps me up many nights: why Maneelap Srimongkoun???(before you ask, yes, I copied and pasted). Nestled mid-block in the excelsior/outer mission, you’ll find this Laotian/Thai joint between a tattoo shop and el farolito(sup bae). I’ll be the first to admit, I didn’t know it was here without the groupon. In my defense, that’s not my fault… Lack of signage and curb appeal is to blame. Once in, you don’t drop an «awww» or a «hmmmm», youre just… There. A plethora of tables, a few TVs and a few wait staff. Now, you don’t come to this restaurant for Gary Danko service, so ill just say they were nice and attentive… food out in a timely manner yadda yadda yadda. Food: Roti with green curry — imagine naan bread with a curry dipping sauce. I don’t care where you say its from, its fantasic and inexpensive.($ 3.99) Sai Ooa Laos Sausage — don’t bother scanning the menu further. The reviews and pictcures don’t lie… it makes the trip worth it alone. Nam Kao Tod(rice ball) — Crispy rice ball with raw preserved pork, fresh ginger, onion, cilantro and spicy lime sauce. Why say more? Num Tok(beef) — marinated beef or pork with rice powder, dried chili, red onion, green onion, mint leaves and spicy lime juice. Beautiful… just…beautiful *Indian tear* As all the hip kids are saying these days, «ima keep it one-hunnit…this place is gucci. You’re sleepin on it». Arguably the best thai/loas/whatever food in a 2 mile radius. Even at standard fare, a steal. Maneelap Srimongkoun, WHYYOUDODIS?! You don’t need groupon! Pay a kid at the bus stop $ 10, give him a sandwich board and let the food & reviews speak for themselves. Well, if we most go there, hit up groupon and have a solid dinner. hell, you can dine in… pick up… or even get delivery from an asian kid bumping rap down your street… and he even has a grill!(you cant make this stuff up, i kid you not) Winner winner(pumpkin curry) chicken dinner.

Saturday lunch date! Dude, how the heck do you say the name? Dude, I don’t know, it’s like Manee something(like Paquiao). Just look up Laotian. That, I can say. :) Enter the door and it’s turn off the lights Teddy Pendergrass chill. Like literally the lights are off and it looks like a blackout. No music, no noise, nothin. The décor is nice if you squint your eyes to see it in the darkness. There is one other party but no one else. But, we’re here, it’s all good in the hood. VIP date status! Server homeboy looks like he straight walked off the street, keys dangling from his pocket. They finally turn on some music and it’s like every radio hit made me reminisce about my teenage years: Mariah, F-A-B-O-L-O-U-S!, Ashanti, some Lil Flip, are these the new oldies?! We order the rice ball salad, Laos sausage and drunken noodles and he asks if we want Jack or Hen?(Haha I guess?) Rice ball salad with preserved pork was generous and flavorful, Laos sausage was herbaceous but dry(got nothin on Champa Garden!), and drunken noodles were drunky but a little greasy! We found out there’s a Groupon for this spot, and apparently, there’s where a majority of the business to this mysterious Laotian spot in the middle of Excelsior came from. We hopped on it($ 20 for $ 13) so it’s almost like getting one dish for free! Can I get a hell yea?! Glad we tried it, but gotta say Champa Garden is the reigning(dare I say) champ?! Bah dah bum!

Walked in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch, was pretty dead, no music playing, and really dark inside. We weren’t even sure if they were open. Seated ourselves, looked over the menu, then the waiter asked if we were ready to order. Didn’t offer drink orders, even after we ordered food. Chicken Wings: Good when fresh, not good for leftovers. Fresh Spring Rolls: Made with lettuce, no basil or mint… no thanks. Vegetable Red Curry: The broth was good, but seemed to be missing something. The veggies didn’t have much flavor. Also, it didn’t come with rice nor did they offer any. Crab Fried Rice: Delicious. Maybe would come back? But most likely not.

After my Laotian friend told me about the dish kao poon, I knew I had to try it! I love noodles and soup, anything with a coconut twist is even better. I ordered the kao poon(#13 on menu) with extra soup, because I love extra broth. My bf can’t remember what he ordered exactly, it was something along the lines of basil chicken fried rice. The kao poon came out, and it was delicious! The broth had the perfect taste of coconut and flavor. My only complaint is that it came out warm, as if it had been sitting out for a while. But we got our food right away, so idk what happened there. I do prefer my soups to be hot, super hot. The chicken in the kao poon was surprisingly soooo good! I thought it was going to be plain, but the meat just melted in your mouth. It was GOOD. My bf’s fried rice was delicious too! Looked a little plain but both dishes packed a lot of flavor. The prices were very decent as well, I thought I was going to be paying way more. I would definitely recommend the kao poon if you’re a soup & noodles person, and basil fried rice if you prefer rice over noodles. But they’re both very delicious!!! Come with a friend and order both :)

Ehh its alright. solid 3 star. First of all this place is dark! Like they only had dim lights on. Luckily when I came it was still day time so I didn’t have to turn on my flashlights lol I was sitting in the middle of the restaurant and there was this big pillar between me and the cashier and i felt like the waiter did not know I was there cuz I have to continuously wave my hand like a crazy woman when I wanted to order and get my check. The pad se ew is really good tho, best i ever had but the other dish was not. The menu says it would come in a sizzling plate but no… If i knew i would’ve just ordered the regular thai basil instead. The charge $ 2.50 for rice, seriously? Fortunately, I came with a groupon so it makes it all better. But I don’t think I will come back.

My new laotian favorite! For appetizers, I usually get the roti with green curry. For entrée, the nam kao tod is my favorite, although I’m not a big fan of the Laotian sausage so I always ask them to omit the sausage. The pad thai is good too as well as the num tok(with the beef grilled well done). Great food, good price. My new favorite.

It’s surprising to hear of a Laos/Thai restaurant opening up in the Excelsior district, mainly because you don’t come across anything much outside of the pizza or taqueria realm in this area. Maneelap Srimongkoun(MS) is a large and spacious, low-key restaurant; tables are spaced relatively far away from each other, so you don’t feel cramped. There’s nothing I hate more than elbow-bumping my neighbor from an adjacent table. I suggest ordering from the Laotian menu, which consists of 15 appetizers and entrees, all under $ 10. If you want Thai, go for it. But I come to MS mainly for the Laos food. Kao poon(rice noodles in Laos curry broth) is the perfect, warming bowl of comfort food on a chilly night. The spicy, bold, and mildly coconut-flavored broth started out watery, but thickened overtime from the vermicelli rice noodles. There weren’t as many pieces of shredded chicken(dark meat) as I had hoped, and there were too many bean sprouts and cabbage, both likely used as cheap fillers. Moo som(fermented pork ribs) was salty and sour in flavor, and too chewy and dry in texture. It was difficult to tear the meat off the bone. On the side of this dish were raw lettuce, raw onions, and chopped lime wedges. Sai ooa(baked Laos sausage) was very gritty and dry. However, the herbs infused into the meat was good, and the spicy vinegar dipping sauce was a tasty compliment. The menu states that this dish comes with fresh vegetables, ginger, peanuts, and onions, yet we were given only one measly piece of lettuce. Soft shell crab in yellow curry was delicious, though very oily. The fresh crab was coated with very crispy, but oily batter. The fluffy scrambled egg and crisp bell peppers were good, and the yellow curry powder added just the right amount of spice. Maneelap crispy egg noodles were decent. The chicken gravy was too runny to be considered a «gravy». The noodles were still crispy despite being soaked in the gravy. The menu states that this dish is supposed to have shiitake mushroom, yet we were given enoki instead. Pineapple fried rice was good, but then again, this dish is so common at Thai restaurants that it’s difficult to screw up. The curry flavor was mild and the dish as a whole wasn’t too oily. I didn’t think there were enough pineapples or shrimp, and egg was missing completely from the dish. The first time we dined here, we were impressed with the food and quick, attentive service. But the second visit was a completely different experience. Service was unbearably slow, and we received our three dishes 15 – 20 minutes apart from each other, as if we were having a three-course meal. Also, the staff appeared very lazy as dirty dishes were left out on adjacent tables during our entire meal. We even saw another couple walk in, seat themselves, clear out their own table from previous diners’ dirty dishes, and patiently waited for the menus. They were never given menus and therefore left. Aside from the displeasing service and the substitution of several ingredients in a few dishes, food is still decent and reasonably-priced. The outside of restaurant isn’t very inviting, as the flimsy tarp sign doesn’t make the restaurant stand out. They have a TV, so if you’re dining at the restaurant and find yourself suffering a long wait time for food, you’ll have some entertainment.

I really wanted to like this place because everyone else had such a positive experience but I just can’t… Came here one evening. The prices here are very reasonable. Ranging from $ 6-$ 9. The guys working here are super nice and helpful. They offered me water while I waited for my food and were able to describe the dishes on the menu. One thing about the menu, why is there no indicator for spicy?! Placed my order and waited about 20 minutes. I had the below: +Roti with green curry — Although a small appetizer, the green curry was yummy. –Pla Som — fermented fish but omg REALLYSALTY. Definitely not for me. –Or Lam — really spicy and salty beef stew… It was more like a beef soup… ~Pad Thai — Tasted ok, not a great as other places but it was spicy… be careful! ~Pad See-Ew — Mediocre dish. Has potential to be better… Lacks that extra flavor. yadamean? +Mango Curry — pretty good dish. I would have preferred it to be a tad sweeter but it’s still pretty good. It’s not super spicy but it does have a kick to it. Nothing really appealed to me here. I did appreciate the affordable pricing of the foods but the taste factor is not for me. After this experience, probably will not be coming back.

Came for lunch and ordered off their Laotian menu. Had the fermented pork ribs and Lao pork rib soup. Each plate was $ 10 I think. The ribs were like a skeleton, dry and boney. The soup was OK but after having Champa Garden(better taste, value, and interior), I just can’t get excited about this place. That’s why it’s taken me forever to write this. Parking is fairly easy here.( )
