Majestic Landscape & Design

If I had seen the prior review I would NOT have hired Ray Galvez of Majestic Landscape and Design. I hired him to do a major landscape project in my yard, and he was not quite done, but said that he would return to finish but if I could pay him for the job so he could pay his men. Eight weeks later after many many calls and texts with him making numerous appointments with me waiting all day for him to return but never showing up; I am left with the frustration and anxiety that he never meant to keep his word and come back to finish the job. He is NOT that cheap, and was referred to me by Shamrock in San Rafael. I had returned to Shamrock on 3 different occasions to ask the sales men at the register if they knew him and if he was a reputable guy before I went forward, and they all confirmed. To his credit, Ray has a good design sense and his workers are good hard working men, but his word is worthless and he has NO honor, and will not deliver what he has promised. I am going to take him to small claims and writing a letter to Shamrock that they should not be passing his business card out to their customers since he will ruin their reputation. Be very careful of Ray Galvez, he may seem honest and charming, but he is NOT trustworthy. I guess I am such a quick study that it only took me 8 weeks to finally realize that he was Never returning to finish the job, even though he strung me along with promises to return to complete the job that he was fully paid for. Now I am having to find someone else to complete his job and go through the additional expense. It is really a shame since I wanted to believe in him and hoped that my faith in people would not be crushed like he has done. NEVER HIRE HIM! There are a lot of Great landscaping people out there without having to spend your life and free time working with a DISHONEST businessman. Shame on Shamrock for referring him. It makes me wonder if Ray Galvez was giving the sales men kick backs for referring business to him, because I can’t be the only one going in to let them know he never shows up to his appointments.

I just felt that I should warn other people who are thinking of using this contractor. My husband and I hired Ray Galvez and his team to do some slate in our backyard because he offered us a cheap price. Well, we got what we paid for. He put all the slate in and said he would come back to seal the slate in the next two weeks. He never did, and the slate formed these horrible white rings around the edges. We could have prevented this if we had just sealed it ourselves but we just didn’t know that would happen.
We discovered after the fact that the white rings are due to a chemical reaction between the mortar, slate and rainwater. Apparently, because slate is so porous, it is best to seal the slate before setting it in the mortar, which they didn’t do. The mortar was also suppose to be a dark smoke color, but it’s very patchy, ranging from a light grey to almost black. The mortar was also very soft in spots, almost sandy, like it wasn’t set right.
It’s been a year since we started this project and I’m still out in the backyard with a wire brush and a drill taking off the white rings from the slate stones one by one…
DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
