This place is great. They do hot dogs and they do them well. I think the only thing is sometimes their dogs are quite salty — but I suppose that is to be expected.

Showdogs, Dapper Dog, Bacon Hot Dog, etc better all watch out. There’s a new top dog in town with the return of Los Shucos. Delicious(huge!) hot dogs with interesting and yummy toppings. Hubby and I split an El De La Foto — I was intimidated by the size of the dog. It comes with cabbage, avo and spicy mayo. It was wolfed down in no time. Hubby could have eaten a whole dog by himself but half was good enough for me. Space is bright and cheery and staff are helpful and patient with newbies.

This isn’t your basic street dog. This is a whole nuther level. Forget the guy setting up the hot plate on his grocery cart and come here instead. Get the foto dog. You will savor every bite.

Almost $ 8 for a hot dog are you kidding me, the El Shuco was good but I’m not willing to pay another $ 8 for a hot dog again, I’ll just stick to the little cart hot dogs. The place is neat and clean but is too expensive for just a hot dog…

It may be the«bougie» version of a ghetto dog aka the dirty dog that the Mission district is known for, but IDGAF, it was so good, and I was sober! After finishing up mini golfing at Urban Putt we were looking for something closeby for dinner. I remembered about always wanting to try Los Shucos. So glad they finally opened back up after that awful complex fire! I decided on the El De La Foto and he got the El De La Mission with the sauce chimchurri sauce for 50 cents extra. $ 1 for the sales of an El De La Mission goes to community non-profits in the Mission. El De La Foto is their most popular(& most photographed one thus the name of it). All hotdogs(unless otherwise noted or chose) are a bacon wrapped beef hotdog on a fresh made bun. El De La Foto came with the bacon wrapped dog, Guatamalan chimchurri sauce, cabbage, avocado and mayo maya. His was the traditional bacon wrapped dog dressed up the way that you know and love, except with avocado and per request without mustard but with the chimchurri sauce. All the dogs were $ 7.95 + 50 cents extra for his chimchurri sauce. The dogs were all fully loaded and messy to eat and had a nice snap to them. I loved all the fresh ingredients, and hey, it’s a little healthier than normal hot dogs, since it’s filled with cabbage and avocado as well! LOL There’s definitely more going on than the traditional bacon wrap hotdogs, but in a good way! They have a 100% health score, the women working were so friendly, alternative hot dogs include chicken and veggie, and the storefront is not only super clean, but it’s also so cute with the white, pastel blue and yellow colors. Umm. and lets not forget, delicious dogs that aren’t super greasy like the bacon dog carts! I don’t think you need any more of a reason to stop by Los Shucos. I can’t wait to try another one of their creations. You can even get it in their homemade tortilla(called the Mixta) as well!

El de La Foto was the last thing on my list I needed to have before I finished all the 100 things for 2015. The place was closed for a while because of the mission fire, and it was a long time before they opened. When they finally opened, Sofia(the owner) sent me an email since I was trying really hard to finish in December. I didn’t end up doing so, but she was helpful in letting me know when they were reopening and welcoming me. When I finally went, it was a rainy day, but the hot dog was delicious! I enjoyed the avocado and bacon wrapped hot dog. Protip: El de La Foto!

My fiancé took me here to eat some shucos! At first when he told me I was like what is that… But man those shucos were the bomb. Basically is a hot dog well prepare. They come with bacon, avocado, cabbage an a green sauce. I got the one called«El de la Foto» it was delicious. Totally coming here when I go to the city. Totally recommend this to anyone! The place is a bit small but very clean.

Sometimes you’re in the mood for a dirty dog — one of those bacon-wrapped, onion covered hot dogs from a street vendor on Mission Ave. For all the other times you want to get a fancy dressed-up hot dog with all the fixins’ but is still cheap, there’s Los Shucos. I must’ve walked by this place a hundred times, but never paid it any attention until they landed on the 7×7 Big Eats list. Los Shucos has a small, clean interior with only a couple tables. Order at the counter. CC’s accepted. FOOD: El De La Foto — The hot dog on the Big Eats list definitely lives up to its hype. This bacon-wrapped frank hot dog is topped with fresh chimichurri sauce, avocado spread, creamy mayo, and fresh lettuce. Loved the blend of ingredients. The Tia Juana — My bf ordered the Tia Juana hot dog, which is a bacon-wrapped frank with grilled pineapples, jalapeño pico de gallo, mayo and avocado spread. I loved both hot dogs and the super fresh ingredients, especially the spreads and fresh salsa. The hot dogs were delicious and flavorful, not at all greasy like your typical Mission dirty dog. My only gripe was how hard it is to get everything in one bite — needs more meat! 4 solid stars. Will definitely be back!

Sooo happy this place was able to reopen after the fire in mission! I’ve been dying to try it. I fucking love hot dogs and the ones here are good and well worth the money. $ 8 may seem steep but a basic dog elsewhere is $ 5 and just a snack with no avacado or other more«groumet» toppings, one dog here is actually enough for a decent meal so you be the judge. My boyfriend and I shared«El de la Foto» «La Mission» and the«Tia juana» and added queso fresco to all of them because… why not? Out of the three the de la foto was our favorite, that chimichurri sauce is bomb. The tia juana was good except for the mushy pineapple. *UPDATE* the owner was kind enough to message me that the pineapple was fresh but was mushy because it was grilled down to make it more sweet and that you could request for them not to cook it down if you’d prefer(= Besides that, the avacado and buns were fresh and the hot dogs are juicy with a nice beef flavor… and it’s wrapped in bacon so just another bonus. Would definitely want to come back to try the other hot dogs. Ps.for you egg lovers they even have a dog with eggs on it!

Bacon wrapped hot dogs done right! My gf and I were looking for a quick bite to eat before heading to make out room for their Monday night shenanigans called Wheel of Karaōke. I looked across the street and saw bacon wrapped hot dogs. DONE! We crossed over and asked if they were still open since there was no one there and just a dude looking like he was closing up. Lucky us, it was still open and the guy was just tidying up. I don’t remember which hot dog I got but my friend got the ti juana? Anyways the dogs were delish. Had a smear of guacamole, the bun was toasted… it was amazing! Will be coming back here for more bacon wrapped hot dogs for sure. Don’t forget to check in on Unilocal for 10% off your dog!

Have you ever done the mission taco run? it’s the thing where a group of friends walk through the mission and alternate between a beer and a taco. I brought my friends from out of town around the mission and we ended up at los Shucos as a replacement to one of our taco stops. It was delicious! They have a unique take on hot dogs and mine was delicious(I got the original shuco with the sausages) I’ll definitely be back in the future. However, the place is tiny even when we got there around 1am and there was only one party before us, we had to wait a bit for our food. I’m sure the line during regular hours is crazy! It’s literally one dude who takes your order and then proceeds to cook it. on the plus side, they do take credit cards with square!

I hate to be a naysayer, but this was a very overpriced hot dog! I’m a huge fan of the soyrizo dog as the vegetarian option, but it was almost overpowering with its own flavoring. Don’t get me wrong, I thought it was great, just more what I’ve had before and less novelty in flavoring. The avocado and toppings were a bit bland compared to the strong flavor of soyrizo. Perhaps if I had a regular flavored hot dog my taste buds would’ve danced for the toppings. Unfortunately, it was a little disappointing after all the hype. The grilled bun was a nice touch and the guy taking the order was super nice and helpful. A+ for effort and cleanliness of the storefront. A nice little happy place in the middle of the mission.

This hot dog shop in the mission has an interesting concept. It is mexican themed gourmet hot dogs with a variety of options available. The meat options are either bacon wrapped beef or chorizo sausage or both. Most of the toppings consist of things like avacado, mayo, black beans and cheese. I somewhat enjoyed eating here, but I don’t think I would come back again. It just did not really feel like the end result was greater than the sum of its parts.

Located right next to Lolo Cevicheria. Stopped by after for a snack. Had the De La Foto. But mine didn’t look like the one in their photo. Their house-made bread is a tad too dry when toasted for my taste. The cabbage was bland. The bun to hot dog ratio was definitely off. There was too much bread. The bacon-wrapped dog itself was nothing special. I think it was lacking flavor. It’s a pretty fat hot dog, due to the cabbage and the bun. I guess I am not a fan of Guatemalan-style smog dogs. Thought it was pricey for what it was. $ 8.

Basically a bacon dog cart that’s gone brick and mortar I originally wanted to get the hot dog with two meats in one(chorizo and all beef dog) but they had sold out. So I ordered their El Heuvon instead. It was a bacon wrapped dog served with a mountain of scrambled eggs, Guatamalan chimichurri, mayo, and avocado spread. $ 7. This thing was HUGE. It had so much toppings, I could barely taste any of the dog. Maybe if they slice the hot dog in half? The chimichurri tasted bitter compared to the Argentinian version. Out of all the dogs I tried, I thought their Tijuana, with the pineapple, was the best. Solid dog. Just not in a rush to go back. This would probably taste awesome after the bars! I was just sober.

I recognize that I’m probably going to catch a bunch of hell for this review, but here goes. You know I love hot dogs. I don’t really care what they’re made of, and I don’t want to know. I love them at the ballpark. I love them from hot dog stands in various cities. I love them at a barbecue. I even love the veggie ones. I do like them, here or there. I do like them everywhere. All of them. I love all of the hot dogs. So you can imagine how excited I was to try Los Shucos. Latin hot dogs?! Yes. Please. In theory. But not in execution. My man friend ordered the El de la Foto: wrapped in bacon, with avocado, with cabbage slaw, mayo maya, and salsa chapina. First off, there was definitely no bacon on that bad boy. Second, it was just loaded with sauces-so much so that you couldn’t even really taste the hot dog. Third, I have texture issues with food – mushy is not my favorite. Fourth, I don’t really like a sandwich that I have to pick up and eat to be laden with sauces. It was just too much going on for one hot dog. I ordered the Dos Carnes with no mayo, of course. The hot dog itself was cut into small pieces, and with virtually no space to eat inside or outside of the restaurant, I proceeded to drop most of it on the ground. It was also a little too mushy for me with so many sauces and avocado. I did not taste any Latin flavors either… probably because there are too many sauces and too many toppings on the hot dog itself for those flavors to come through. Look, I get that it’s a hot dog. Maybe I’m being unreasonable. This happens often in San Francisco, I’ve noticed, where people get overly excited about a new food trend which, in turn, creates a lot of hype as well as unreasonable expectations. Maybe I arrived at LS too late. Maybe I’m too picky. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. Whatever it is, I’ll give LS another go for sure. With a 4.5 average star rating on Unilocal,I’d like to believe I’m the one that’s wrong.

Oh man. You have to try Los Shucos! Granted, I’ve only had one of their specialty dogs, but their whole menu is amazing! The one I had was basically the one that was pictured on their door, which is appropriately named, El De La Foto. El De La Foto — Bacon-wrapped all-beef frank, SALSACHAPINA(GUATEMALANCHIMICHURRI), Avocado, repollo(cabbage), MAYO Maya, served on artisan SHUCO bread, TOASTEDONTHEGRILL This was good! I thoroughly enjoyed every bite and despite having all those toppings, the Toasted Shuco bread was able to keep it all together. Now I know what you’re probably thinking. Aren’t these hot dogs a little too expensive? Sure, I can grab a hot dog from any bacon dog cart in the Mission for half the price, but these are a different kind of bacon wrapped dog with many different toppings that actually go well together. I’m definitely going to return to try the rest of their menu. And I’m probably going to get 2 or 3 next time for sure!

Finding a «new taste» within the vast Bay Area culinary landscape is a challenge. We have always been spoiled with cuisine from so many cultures. But I never tasted this! The chorizo or bacon wrapped dogs on freshly made hot baked bread with a well balanced amalgamation of fresh toppings that offset greasy meat were so good! I bought a total of 4 to try different varieties over 2 visits. It would go well with cold beer! I tweeted them to ask if they will eventually be selling beer. Sadly, response said beer wasn’t in the cards. I agree with my Unilocal Elite friend Cherylynn’s review — the bread to meat ratio is overwhelming. I threw out half. Also, the hot dog and chorizo weren’t hot — only warm. Wish it was hot. The folks here are so friendly. It brightened my day. Heads up: This isn’t a sit-in and eat a leisurely lunch kind of place — at least for me. I’d visit again — to get my order to go, if in the neighborhood. Bookmark this one so you can visit it when you are in the neighborhood. Thank me later

Lately, I’ve been having an extreme craving for hot dogs… sober. Odd because I don’t even remember the last time I’ve had one… sober. «When are you ever not having a craving?» asks Mr. NSS. «Ummm excuse me, are you calling me a pig!!!», I replied. Never get in the way of a girl’s cravings… especially if they’re phallic. Opening in earlier this month, Los Shuco serves Guatemalan hot dogs. Think an elevated and refined dirty dog made with fresh, quality ingredients that almost justifies the higher price tag. The shuco bread is baked daily for them by a local baker. Currently, there’s six shucos on the menu($ 5.95 — $ 7.95); three variations of a chorizo and three variations of a bacon wrapped hot dog. Here’s a snapshot of their menu: . Cc’s accepted. Los Shucos is open everyday from 11 am till 10 pm but on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday they’re open till 2:30 am. Do check their Facebook page( ) for updates as they’ve been selling out before closing time. There’s only two benches so Los Shucos is more of a to-go spot. We were lucky enough to snag the outdoor bench to enjoy our shucos. Mr. NSS went with The Weeping Woman($ 5.95) which is your typical dirty dog with all the typical fixings: caramelized onions, mayo, mustard, and ketchup with the addition of avocado. I, however think he should of ordered the Dirty Old Man(chorizo) which suits him much better. The El de la Foto($ 7.95) was my pick: . Inside the freshly toasted, split shuco bread(like a baguette) laid a bacon wrapped hot dog with a smearing of ripe, buttery avocado on one side. It was then topped with a crunchy repollo cabbage slaw and then drizzled with a light, creamy mayo and salsa chapina(Guatemalan green hot sauce). What I loved about the shuco was taste of top-notch ingredients and the bright, bold flavors from the salsa chapina which had garlicky and lime notes. This salsa is what really made this shuco stand out. I liked that I didn’t get that gross feeling like I inhaled a tub of crisco as I usually do after eating those $ 4 dirty dogs. One of my gripes that is preventing Los Shucos from being a 5 star review is that I found it very difficult to taste the hot dog with each bite because of the hefty bread: hot dog ratio. At times, I felt the hot dog got completely lost in the bread. For $ 8, I want to be able to taste that meaty goodness. I think a skinner shuco bread would help solve this. Or maybe I just need a bigger mouth so I can better wrap my mouth around things. Oh yah and the fact that I looked like a total pig devouring this thing on the bench in front of ogling passerbyers with sauce smashed on my face. That’s until, I saw a someone in their car waiting for the traffic to pass through… rip a pork rib from a rack and sucking on the end of the bone like a… like a… 8=====D-O I could learn a thing or two from him.
