While it may be more of a niche book store, people interested in Latin American history like myself absolutely appreciate a store like Libros Latinos. Even in the Bay Area, this store stands out as it’s one of a kind. Love checking what new releases come in and am a regular costumer! The prices can be pretty steep for some of the books but not as much as places like Amazon.

More than just an amazing bookstore, Libros Latinos is a significant municipal and cultural landmark. They’ve got the most extensive collection of used, rare and antique Latin American books and media that I’ve ever seen and even have a limited(but still impressive) selection of antique political posters(think early 20th-century Zapatista call-to-arms, WWII-era Mexican worker’s rights lithographs expressing solidarity with the Soviet Union, etc.). The book selection ranges from 100-year-old+ heirloom first editions to contemporary, Mexican photography zines. The prices are fair and the staff is super helpful. Like the other shops in the building, my visits seem to work best when I just wander the aisles and let instinct be my guide. A few trips ago I lucked out with an original, 1955 Spanish language first printing of «Red Design For the Americas,» Daniel James’s defense of the Eisenhower Administration’s coup d’etat in Guatemala the year before. Awesome, awesome place that we’re lucky to have nearby.
