Great little place inside the Japantown center. There was a small wait when we went at 3pm on Sunday. I noticed they had a very extensive menu. They also have a nice lunch special menu that will be sure to satisfy most people! See photos I posted. We only ordered from the lunch menu, which is a good deal; 2 items and comes with a side of rice, miso soup and salad. All for $ 9.49. I ordered the saba shio and California rolls, The saba shio is basically a piece of a pan fried flounder fish. It tasted very nice, esp with lemon squeezed on top if you are not accustomed to the fishy taste. The California roll was nice as well, nothing in particular is out of ordinary. We ordered the garlic egg noodle and chicken teriyaki on the second lunch order. The noodles were served with a big portion in a large plate. It is not a noodle soup, and we loved that it was very well seasoned, along with its toppings. FYI there is no meat in it. The chicken teriyaki was good as well, the boyfriend liked the sauce so much, he ate all of it. Overall the experience was great, and we will come back again, and perhaps try the ramen too. I’ll give a 5 star review after our second visit if everything else tastes great.

3.5 stars overall, but I’m rounding up since I enjoyed my Nabeyaki Udon and was thrilled that it cost $ 9.99 rather than the $ 15 I pay for my go-to udon place across the street(Udon Mugizo). I’ll definitely be coming here instead from now on since I think the noodles here are comparable. I got a big piece of shrimp tempura and plenty of chicken, vegetables, an egg, and noodles in a piping hot pot. They have an extensive menu with tons of below average prices. As many have noted, they have an amazing meal combo where you can choose 2 items for under $ 10. The only downside was one of my friends ordered nigiri and was underwhelmed but the fish quality. That said it was also mediocre sushi, so you essentially get what you pay for. The location of Kuishinbo is in the part of the mall that is definitely a bit more drab and has less foot traffic. In fact, it was my first time venturing to this part of the area. Cleary there are some great hole in the walls to uncover still as there were quite a few other restaurants nearby. I look forward to coming back for more budget friendly meals!

Good place we found in Japantown! Their specialty rolls we liked were the spicy crunchy roll and the deep fried California roll. The ramen looked very good! It seemed to have a regular crowd because every party that came in talked to the owner for a while. We also got pork katsu which was good with the sauce they gave us!

The food is interesting and different. I had something typical, the salmon and roe bowl. It was yummy. My friends got other rolls, one with a cucumber on the outside of the roll. It was yummy. The sake was good, the one with the cherry blossoms on the label. So sweet and light. Service was a little slow for food and drinks and getting the check. There’s only two people doing all the serving and clearing so understandable

I’ve been here twice. It’s high quality and inexpensive. Staff is very nice. It’s on the second floor of a mall. If you’re cool with that, definitely come here.

Was here for a conference at the Kabuki Hotel up the street and decided on Kui Shin Bo during our lunch break. Décor/Ambiance: This place is a little hard to find, but it’s in the Japan Town Center on the second floor in a corner. It’s a small restaurant with traditional Japanese décor. Food: I was dining alone and ordered one dragon style roll and some miso soup. I was very pleased with the quality of the roll. Everything was fresh and I remember not feeling weighed down by heavy ingredients. I also really enjoyed the miso soup — always do. Service: Service was great! I showed up and was told it would be about a 30 minute wait. There’s a little bench not too far from the restaurant where I waited. In about 20 minutes, they were ready for me. My waiter promptly attended to me and answered the questions I had about the menu and shared some recommendations as well. He also provided sriracha sauce to accompany my sushi — a must! I truly don’t understand the Japanese restaurants that do not have sriracha in stock smh. Overall: 4 stars. Would definitely return if I find myself in JapanTown.

Came here on a Sunday with the boyfriend around 2:30, we put our names down and had to wait about 30+ minutes. The location was very small and there was a group of 11 in front of us, which made the wait extra long. We ordered the super dynamite roll, tonkatsu ramen, and tempura udon. The food took about another 30 minutes to come, which was a while, but made sense due to the crowdedness at the time. The tonkatsu ramen came first with no tonkatsu in sight, however the dish itself was still pretty tasty. The sushi came next and was pretty good in my opinion(took off the fish eggs though. It had a good amount of crunch and flavor, but you could still taste the sashimi. The tempura udon broth was a bit too wakame flavored in my opinion, I usually like it with more dashi flavoring. However it was still good, and the tempura was yummy.

Family run business. Great lunch combos choose two entrees and it comes with rice and miso soup. Except noodle entrees which doesn’t not come with rice. Space is small, so try to come early since it gets pretty packed. The kitchen food takes a while to prepare but it’s well worth the wait. I got the Wakame cold soba noodle and really liked it. Sushi bar or cold food comes out faster, so if you’re hungry order some sushi with your meal.

This was my first time coming here and saw the ratings ! After searching for a good sushi place, we stumble across this place. When we got here there was already a wait list. it was long, but the place was smaller than expected. There are only two big tables that fit a group of six and I believe 7⁄8 small tables that fit a group of four. We got there around 7ish me we waited for almost 1 hour and half because the big table people wouldn’t leave. They took forever to leave. After all the people left, the adults still sat there and continue drinking. which was ridiculous. I’m not sure if the wait was worth it but the food was good. They had a special menu outside where you pick any two and you get miso, rice, and salad for $ 9.49. The food took about 20 – 30 mins to come out, but it was delicious. I got the chicken katsu & California roll(6 piece) and the katsu was crispy and delicious. My boyfriend got ramen & California roll but if you got ramen you don’t get the soup, rice, and salad. Also, try to come a bit early before their closing time because once their wait list gets long they close the waitlist and won’t take anyone after they close down the waitlist. But they won’t close till they finished the waitlist then they will start closing. We were the last group to go in because we were a big group and the people didn’t want to leave. But they were still happy with the service(: It’s a bit hard to find but its within the shopping mall !

I have nothing to complain about(which rarely happens) hence, the PERFECT score. I think the wait time would have been an issue had we waited, but we didn’t because fortunately, we missed the lunch rush. This place is tiny and tucked away in a tinier corner of «Shopping Mall #2» in Japan Town. You can’t miss it because eateries around it closed down. Now I know it’s because even as tiny as it is, it packs a pretty big punch! Service was sweet, sushi was immaculate and the FREE hot tea was sooooo good! I just appreciated walking into an establishment and getting everything I expected to get and MORE! Funny thing is, I wasn’t even expecting as much considering the last minute plan and of course, being in a new place I always have my doubts. But yes, it was a great experience and I WILL be back. Thank you.

After searching around Japantown at around 1pm for restaurants, my friends and I settled on Kui Shin Bo due to its high ratings on Unilocal.(Previously, we had ejected ourselves from a nearby restaurant’s waiting list when we learned it had 2.5 stars on Unilocal) I was lured in by the promises of «reasonable prices.» We placed ourselves, a party of four, on the waiting list at around 1:45pm, and we found a place to sit and wait. We were finally seated at 3:15pm, over an hour later. The servers were very friendly, and told us about the specials menu — 2 items PLUS miso soup, salad, and rice for $ 9.49. I decided on the Wakame Udon and Chicken Katsu. When the waiter took our order, she let me know that because I chose the udon noodles, I wouldn’t get rice and salad. This was no indication of this condition listed anywhere on the specials menu, so I was a little confused. The food finally came after 4pm, after patrons who were seated AFTER us had already gotten their food(about ten minutes before the first dish was served to our table). The food itself wasn’t bad — the Chicken Katsu was crispy, although the Wakame Udon was very bland. My meal also showed up without miso soup, add further insult to injury. Although the food itself was alright, the extremely long wait and the weird restrictions on the special dishes did not make this place worth it.

Very reasonable prices, great service and yummy food. They have a good mix of sushi and kitchen food. We stopped in by chance as the place is typically closed on Mondays. Will look forward to coming back soon.

reasonable is definitely the word for this small sushi/ramen restaurant. this was our first time dining here n I expected a full meal n that’s what I got. looking from the outside, the small hole in the wall shop has a homey feel to it. it’s located on the second floor in the Peace Plaza of Japantown. it’s a mom n pop store run by an elderly gentlemen who is very accommodating to its customers. he recommended their lunch combo meals to us for its reasonable price n good variety. so that’s what both of us ordered. the two combo meals were filling. we were both pretty full after finishing it all. the quality was ok. I wouldn’t say it was amazing food, but it’s something we would go back to eat if we were hungry. maybe try other things on their huge menu. Shrimp Tempura w/Ramen combo: the ramen was just a pack of noodles put into some soup. I would order one of their specialty ramen next time. the shrimp tempura was cooked really good. 2 pieces of crispy large prawns. Tonkatsu w/California Roll combo: the tonkatsu was big altho not juicy like a specialty tonkatsu shop would have.(it’s not kurobuta pork so lower your expectations.) the California rolls were decent.

Good for late night. Service is good and the hot tea hit the spot on a windy, SF night. The prices are reasonable and portions as one might expect. The spicy tuna poke salad was delicious and particularly enjoyable if medium spicy is preferred. Katsu curry looked like it had beef in it though. Good restaurant to try out.

so disappointing. Had high hopes based on other reviews but was let down. Service is SO slow, took an hour for two of us to get udon soup and chicken teriyaki with miso soup and salad. Btw, the chicken teriyaki was defrosted frozen chicken slathered in mediocre tasting teriyaki sauce. Sushi looked good but I won’t be back to try it. With so many other similar places around, try somewhere else.

I ran into this place after buying a few nick nacks at the store next door. Out of the gate you will notice that it is super tiny! I’d say maybe a total of 8 small tables? Maybe even less. I did notice a Unilocal sticker as I was walking in, so that alone gave me some confidence. I was greeted immediately upon entering, and let the waiter know that I was taking it to go. Not looking at a full menu, I decided to play it safe and ordered their Shrimp Tempura Roll. As I sat down, my waiter walked over to hand me a menu. He mentioned that they make a variety of sushi burritos. BOOM! I’ve never had one, so I figured this was a good time to pop my cherry! I asked for his recommendation, and he called out their«Crispy Shrimp Bo’rrito». All I could picture in my head was a big ass sushi roll on steriods. The shrimp was nice and crispy, and the wasabi siracha sauce was top notch! My only complaint is the shrimp to rice ratio. It felt more like a rice burrito with a side of shrimp. But when I was able to experience that balance of shrimp, rice, cabbage, cucumbers, shallots, and green onions… it didn’t disappoint. Side note: This place is about the size of a 1 car garage, but don’t let that sway you. They get it done like the rest of the big boyz out there! Conclusion: I will definitely be back to try their other sushi burritos!

Slow service. No organized wait list. Food mediocre. Came in on Friday around 730 with two group of 5 ahead of us. There was no list to put your name on so you just have to know who was there first, be honest, and to inform restaurant people when they seat people because those aggressive might just take your seat from you. Food in general is mediocre. Got the two item combo: ramen with avo roll and some sushi: cucumber sashimi roll and white tuna, sake, eel nigiri. There are better places in the plaza for ramen but for around $ 10 for two items is not a bad deal if you get other items other than ramen and avo roll. The sushi were just okay. Missing little things like the wasabi in my nigiri and sushi not rolled properly. Three star for great deal and okay food.

It was my last night in SF before heading back home. I was exhausted and I had to be up to leave for the airport at 3am. Instead of powering through like I normally would do(go out and just not go to sleep) I decided to attempt to be responsible and opted for a night in in my hotel room with PJs and delivery. This proved to be a pretty great call thanks to Eat24 and Kui Shin Bo. It was a Thursday night so the wait for the food was a bit significant(almost an hour and a half) but luckily I ordered before I was starving. Coming from the midwest where sushi isn’t always the best I decided to try a few things and ended up with WAY more food than I needed but that’s ok. Firstly I was kind of dumb and didn’t realize that the Rainbo’rrito was an actual sushi burrito. I mean the name says it all but I guess I missed the category when I was ordering on Eat24 so I just assumed it was a standard size roll. Nope, it’s a burrito. And it’s much larger than a roll. But it was delicious and I made sure to make a sizeable dent in it before moving onto my next roll – the Salmon Family(crispy salmon skin topped with fresh salmon, ikura, avocado, mango and cream cheese with lemon yuzu sauce) which was also a solid win. Salmon is definitely my favorite of all the raw fish options(next to the always expensive fatty tuna) so I was in heaven with this one. Would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY. The fish is fresh, the combo of ingredients in each roll are great, and for this midwest gal it was the perfect end to a long week in SF.

Kui Shin Bo definitely seems to win on the price war in Japantown. Bento lunch boxes are served all day for $ 9.49 and include your choice of 2 entrée items, rice, miso soup and salad. The portions are generous, the food is fresh and the service is friendly. I had the Nigiri Combo(8 chef’s choice pieces, $ 13.95) and a Deep Fried California Roll(10 pieces for only $ 4.99!). Looking for a tasty lunch that won’t set you back? Go for the Deep Fried California Roll. It’s simple, tasty and cheap! The Nigiri Combos comes with all your standard selections including tuna, salmon, shrimp, snapper, hamachi and mackerel. Our server/owner asked what type of fish I preferred for my combo plate, which I thought was a nice gesture. Everyone was happy with their dinner selections(Katsu Chicken Curry, Potato Croquette, Beef Teriyaki and the Fried Squid). I got a few samplings of the Fried Squid and it was a little chewy but had some good flavor and comes with a tasty dipping tempura sauce and Japanese plum sauce. The potato croquettes were a nice accompaniment with a crispy and crunchy outer layer giving way to a moist and creamy mashed potato filling. Head to Kui Shin Bo if you’re seeking a well-priced Japanese lunch or dinner with a welcoming vibe.

Sencillo y delicioso!
