SF Kickball is a laid-back yet very well-organized social group that I am glad I decided to join this past spring. They offered Tuesday, Thursday, & Sunday leagues(I played on Sundays) and the games were at Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park. My group didn’t want to do WAKA because it sounded«too organized» /«too official»(i.e. the WAKA website gave the impression you couldn’t drink during your games because of some regulations at SF parks). If you’ve ever been to a park in this city you will know that’s not an actual issue whatsoever, but regardless we vetoed WAKA and went with Kickball SF. Our league only had 4 teams but we managed to get like at least half a dozen games in over the course of the season, which, combined with the beer, tshirts, etc I thought was well worth the $ 60 participant fee. The«commissioner» was very communicative and willing to work with the other league members to see what was best for everyone regarding conflicts such as Easter, Bay to Breakers, Memorial Day etc. He rescheduled weeks a few times on request to make sure we got in games from weeks that had been cancelled(since of course it’s all about the actual kickball…). Having the games in Golden Gate Park made for kind of a schlep unless you live out in the Sunset or Richmond, and the bar wasn’t super close(Blarney Stone, Geary @ 21st), but I did enjoy it because it forced me over to an area of town I don’t otherwise frequent aside from special events like taking visitors around or to go to an event like Night Life or Outside Lands. The Kickball SF group also has a Dodgeball league I think although I cannot speak to that. Additionally they planned several big events, namely tailgates + group outings to Giants games. The commissioner had a taco truck rented + tons of booze + beerpong for tailgating + Giants tickets; I went to two of these and had a great time. All in all I would highly recommend this league because the people are chill but also not a total cluster in terms of structure /organization /communication.

I love Kickball. Yes I suck at it, and didn’t know what I was doing yesterday at our first game, but I still love it. Kickball is the perfect Sunday Funday activity w/friends! To start off the games one person on each team has to chug a flabongo to see which side will be outfield or infield. Then everyone, beer in hand, goes out and does their thing. It’s super fun, at Golden Gate Park, everyone is hella cool, and we get awesome shirts with a silly team name of our choice. It’s even better b/c it’s every Sunday for the next couple months! After our games, we all head to Blarney Stone to put our flip cup skills to the test. Only downfall? Not stretching enough and pulling my calf muscle. But hey it was my own fault so it’s all good. It’s totally awesome!!! I would highly recommend joining!
