I was soooo bummed Tuesday when I too late to get my weekly supply of stone fruit from the Kashiwase stand at the Alameda Webster St Farmers’ Market. My morning smoothie just isn’t the same without their peaches, nectarines, and pluots. Sure, I can get cheaper fruit from other sources, but it’s not as consistently delicious. I don’t worry about peeling the Kashiwase peaches because they’re organic, and I know that they are good stewards of the land. See their listing on the Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association(PCFMA) at for more locations where you can find Kashiwase peaches.

For a few years now I’ve avoided peaches at all costs… not enough flavor, too mealy… then I discovered the Sierra Rich peach this year from Kashiwase Farms. Just about the best peach I’ve ever had. Don’t let it fool you, it’s a little firm at the farm stand at the market but in one or two days it becomes the most delicious, flavorful, juicy peach. Their other stone fruits are heavenly too! You can find this farm at the Cupertino Square market Fridays, Mountain View market Sundays, Los Altos market Thursdays evenings in the summer and probably other markets.

When I saw someone give Kashiwase Farms 1-Star. I had to step in to balance… I have been devoted to Kashiwase for years since working at Chez Panisse. It is true, their fruit is expensive, but it truly is the best I’ve ever tasted. Like candy…

Best peaches in the world. They are so juicy you have to eat them over the sink because the juices will drip down your chin. My favorites are the: Klondikes — white flesh, sweet, and light in flavor. Honey Kist — yellow flesh nectarines, sweet and medium flavor. You have to try it to believe it. I usually get about 10 lbs for me and my Grandma. She likes the Klondikes because it softens nicely and very sweet. Say hello to Lisa, Ellen and Vivian at the stall. I put down their names to remember. I am very bad with names.
