Attentive service. Charming neighborhood spot. Carpaccio is recommended. White out roll was also good. If they have the blue fin, get it. Not as good as Kiji, however. This place deserves a 4 star average.

Terrible service, we were the only people in the restaurant and the two waitresses were talking to one another rather than trying to give us a decent dining experience. They gave us all of our food we ordered simultaneously which made for a really chaotic dining experience. The food was unfortunately worse than the service. We ordered the seafood salad and the chirashi, the fish tasted off to say the least. The food was simply not fresh. I’ve been to probably 100’s of sushi restaurants and I can honestly say Kama Sushi was easily in the bottom 5% of sushi places I’ve been to in terms of the quality of food. Oh yeah, and my hands smelled like rotten fish upon leaving. A very unpleasant experience overall.

Ordered delivery from this place a few days ago. The food left something to be desired. Portions were tiny for the price. I was left so hungry.

A bit overpriced for decent quality food. Nothing was a standout but, at the same time, nothing great. A perk is that they deliver.

2.5 stars. I have had Kama a few times and it’s been consistently mediocre. I generally order the deluxe chirashi and a few different kinds of nigiri. The deluxe chirashi has an impressive spread in terms of type of fish, including everything from uni and amaebi to salmon and mackerel. However, the fish is actually not particularly fresh. It’s acceptable and won’t get you sick but doesn’t really meet my expectations. The best nigiri here are the hotate(scallop) and amaebi(sweet shrimp). Both are not particularly impressive but still had a good slightly sweet taste at least. The uni, on the other hand, was terrible every single time. I never learned my lesson and kept ordering it because I love uni and wanted to give it another chance each time I was back, but the uni here is terrible. It’s mushy and slimy and has a weird taste, not the delicate sweet brininess of good uni. I also tried the green tea Japanese cheesecake, which was surprisingly tasty! It doesn’t have very much crust but the cheesecake is smooth, creamy, and matcha-y. Definitely one of the highlights here. They only give a really tiny slice though. :( Overall, I would not come back here again. Not even sure why I’ve had Kama so many times already.

Rude. Unfriendly staff. Ordered online. They messed up my order(which I of course only checked when I got home). When I called I was told I’d have to come back. Delivery was not possible. The new order was out quick, but when I checked it I noticed that there was another error(missing avocado). I mentioned it to the server. Another server came over, I explained again & she rolled her eyes & said something in Japanese to her co-worker. At that point I thought«forget it». They lost my business. The sushi is only barely better than the sushi at Safeway. Not worth it.

So I ordered for delivery using DoorDash. Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. I ordered the 24 piece sashimi combo and only got 18 pieces. I paid $ 53 for their sashimi and only got ¾ of what I was supposed to get. Also, their tuna just tasted off. It was bitter tasting. Their sushi rice was also too vinegary. Their seared fish rolls were hardly seared with a torch. It tasted like it was just boiled or steamed. I was not impressed and will not be ordering from them again.

Used to order delivery from here all the time, always showed up yummy and before the delivery window even started. Unfortunately, on my last encounter this past weekend I don’t think I’ll be ordering their delivery again. Everything was soggy after sitting in the car for so long, the miso had spilled out and the skewers were cold. They were later on delivering and had smashed two roles into a box meant for one. Will be my last delivery from them. Food is much better in person, but since I have to walk a couple hills it requires more effort than ordering through Unilocal(read: I’m lazy). I’ll still go back but not as often as I would have gotten stuff delivered. In person you get free, albeit usually cold, edamame and everything tastes a little bit better.

Solid neighborhood sushi joint. It’s not Nobu… but it almost never disappoints either. Fish is always fresh and the sashimi is always cut thick. Great value for money.

I order takeout through Unilocal/Eat24 from Kama decently often. Sure, it’s not knocking my socks off, but I’ve tried a few other places, and Kama has the most consistent order quality, so it’s now where I order from when I want Japanese food without going out. The miso soup isn’t my favorite, but is still warm when it shows up if you just need something warm in your tummy. They’re also usually really quick to deliver: Eat24’s confirmation email will say 45 – 60 minutes, but they’re usually closer to 30 minutes(good to know if, like me, you submit your order on the way home). Tasty, fast, gets the job done.

Came here for ramen and the best part about it was the fried chicken which was placed on a separate plate and was really really good. Yet, despite the chicken, I can’t help but give Kama Sushi 2 stars being that their dish wasn’t all that great. I WOULD add an extra half star for the free sake if I could but unfortunately… this is Unilocal.I would love to give this place another shot though and update this review.

I’ve never actually eaten here, but I’ve ordered takeout from them several times. The garlic edamame is to die for. I’ve never tried the fancy rolls, but the simple maki and sushi is consistently fresh and tasty. Their delivery is always fast and courteous. It’s not going to blow you away, but for a mid priced sushi joint it meets expectations.

I love the Miso Vinegar Dressing on the Greens salad. Perfect amount of dressing. Everything fresh. I’ve never had a better Spicy Salmon Roll. It was perfect~! The Rice, Flavors, everything Magnifique~! Why cant they all be like that? The Clam Miso was good. Good Wasabi, and the Ginger wow! I don’t usually like The Ginger that comes with most sushi orders, just like I don’t usually like Edamame, but it was complimentary so I had to try it! I happily ate both as they were both delicious! Great Customer Service~!

We stopped going there after a hostess(Meila?) refused to pack our a Happy Hour meal to go. So she served us first instead and then throw some paper boxes later so we can pack. We appreciate you follow your bosses protocol precisely. However, you need to learn a bit of a customer service as well. Being a neighbor next door, we had visited the place once or twice per week on a regular basis. Now we are going elsewhere. You loose a local customers!

FREESAKE when you check in. Also complementary edamame and it’s pretty good. Okay so my friends went ham and usually I do too but my stomach wasn’t having any of it. I stuck with the Golden Dragon roll, which by the was was good but not the best roll I’ve had, and a spring mix salad. I actually really liked the salad.

Came here after a long ass day of walking all over the city with my best friend and we literally would’ve eaten whatever, but we were trying to be healthy after eating just chips. So, we were all like, sushi is healthy, right? Anyways. Even though this place has a pretty sizeable happy hour menu, you’re better off just ordering a full roll off the regular menu if you’re hungry. We ended up ordering a full spicy tuna roll, chicken karaage, spicy ramen, gyoza, and katsu don. Ramen was meh. Gyoza was standaard, but not bad. Spicy tuna roll was legit. The fish tasted fresh, which was good considering it was a weekend. Chicken karaage and katsu don was legit. Both the chicken and pork were cooked just right. Everything was pretty affordable, and for all the food we got between two people, we spent $ 47. The bathroom was clean. This place is in a sweet spot in the hood, and wasn’t overly crowded for a Sunday night. It’ll make for a good staple, neighborhood sushi spot for me.

I wondered into this corner spot in the Noe Valley neighborhood of SF on a sleepy early evening during the week. Small corner spot(I seem to find these alot) great happy hour menu ranging from sushi, tempura and a range of booze, I had a bottle of Niguri for $ 10.00. I went with the spicy miso ramen and it was good, broth wasn’t to my standard and the noodles a bit over cooked. Good size portion and the right price but I have to say left alot to be desired. Maybe just hit the happy hour menu next time if there is a next time.

I was having an epic sushi jones one Friday night and insisted it be addressed forthwith. The bf and I decided on KS, after stopping by another place that didn’t smell very good and was loaded with childrens. No offense, I love kids, just not after 8 p.m. on a Friday night. That’s adult time. When we arrived, the restaurant was half empty, but we were nevertheless told to wait at the bar, or had the option to sit at a pretty tiny and awful table in the corner. Hm, okay, we decided to wait at the bar. Much to our dismay, we were then sat at a tiny two-top right next to a family of 4 in the private booth. Look, I get how seating works – you want to save the bigger tables for bigger parties, but our table at KS was the worst and it detracted from our experience in a major way. We were especially unhappy that the better tables facing the windows remained empty all evening. The family we sat next to was super loud with screaming children who kept dropping things on the floor next to our table. Finally, they left and we were starting to relax when a dizzy tech couple were seated practically on our laps, despite a myriad of empty tables. I never do this, but … WTF. We suffered at length listening to these two complain about minimal work problems. I hate listening to people complain about their jobs on my free time, or at all, really. I noticed that most of the activity in KS consisted of to-go orders, which clearly makes sense, in retrospect. Our sushi wasn’t bad, but it was certainly not good enough to make up for the seating situation. Our server screwed up our order a bit, but it was just a misunderstanding, I think. We really enjoyed the kurobuta skewers and the hot sake, courtesy of Unilocal. With so many sushi options in this city, I think KS def has room for improvement. I think order to go.

2.5STARS When I need to be cheap… I can be c-h-e-a-p. Just over the weekend, I got into it with a manager at an Asian market over $ 2. The staff mislabeled the price for coconut water. I told her it was the law and that they need to charge customers the posted price which was lower than scanned price. She refused, claiming that a kid switched the price tag. Mr. NSS: «Please don’t make a scene, I’ll pay for it.» Me: «Ummm no, it’s the phuckin’ law!» Mr. NSS: «Calm down, you’re getting your granny panties ALL up in a bunch over $ 2BUT you spent $ 360 for one meal at Saison?!?» Me: «Hey, I love my granny panties dammit… have fun with PALMela tonight!» Choose your battles wisely, fellas. If you’re girl wants to haggle over $ 2 so let it be. What drew me to Kama Sushi was their Happy Hour(HH) Specials available every day from 5 pm — 6:30 pm: . On the menu are $ 5 large hot sake, $ 4 large beers, $ 5 hot apps, $ 4 nigiri, and $ 5 maki rolls. I compared it the regular menu and you save about $ 1 for most items. Make sure to check in on Unilocal for a free small hot sake! I had a not so great experience at Kama’s SoMa location aka mad Hershey squirts afterwards, however, I heard that their Noe Valley location was better. LIES. If you’re looking for solid and authentic sushi, you will not find it any of their Kama locations. As the infamous Nobu K. would say, it’s 100% Chinese here(I’m ¾ths Chinese and I heard the sushi chefs speaking in Canto) with a huge jive ass roll selection. Not to say, Chinese sushi is entirely bad because Hamano Sushi nearby does Chinese sushi right: . Sakesan Bistro in Inner Richmond is also great as is Kamu Sushi and Amami Sushi in the Peninsula. We came right when Kama opened and we were the only ones there until we left. OURORDER: *Soft Shell Crab(HH $ 5): *Shrimp Tempura(Reg $ 7.95): *Yakitori: Kurobuta: Sausage & Butabura: Pork Belly(HH $ 5 each): *Albacore Tataki(HH $ 7): *HHCA Roll, Sake, Maguro, Saba($ 5, $ 4, $ 4, $ 4) & Sake Toro & Hamachi Toro(Reg. $ 5.95, $ 7.95): What Kama excels in is their fried items. Whoever their chef is, they have excellent frying technique. The soft shell crab was piping hot, über crunchy, and not greasy. Equally delicious was their shrimp tempura which was light, airy, and deliciously crunchy. One of the best shrimp tempura I’ve ever had! You can skip their yakitori skewers. The kurobuta sausage was store bought and decent enough but their pork belly thinly dry, overcooked, and insanely salty. With Kama’s sushi, expect mediocrity. Thank goodness most of the nigiri we ordered was off the HH menu because I would NOT pay full price for these items here. We also ordered two nigiri off the regular menu to gauge the sushi making skills. One of the fundamentals of solid sushi is the shari(sushi rice) and Kama’s shari was terrible. The rice was grossly overcooked, mushy, and underseasoned. It reminded of the shari in Safeway sushi. The fish to shari ratio was also off(too much rice). Additionally, the quality of the fish was subpar and not fresh. Even with the Sake and Hamachi Toro Nigiri from the regular menu, the fish tasted dull and stale; no butteryness whatsoever. Avoid the Saba, it was fishier than p… never mind. As a comparison, the sushi here is a baby step higher than sushi found at an Asian buffet. Wasn’t fond of the service either. Our male server was curt. After we received our food, he left to use his phone and never came back. The female server seemed friendly and brought us our bill. Had she been our server, this would have been a solid 3 star place. Kama is small compared to their SoMa location with seating for about 25 people. We usually sit at the sushi bar but it was very dim so we opted for window seats for some natural light. Easy street parking. While this reads to be more of a 2 star review, I’m giving them 2.5 stars rounded up because of the HH specials and no mad Hershey squirts afterwards.
