Ordered the rice meal set with sweet sour chicken and broccoli. Chicken and fried rice were ok but broccoli tasted like it had been out for a while and was on the brink of spoiling. It gave me a bad stomach that night too, further confirming my assumption that the broccoli was close to rotten. Meh. Never going back here again. I prolly should’ve just gotten their dim sum.

Went here a few weeks ago for the first time. Friendly staff, good food for the price. Grab boba at purple kow and come here for a few dim sum for the perfect midday snack/small meal. We were pretty indecisive, but the staff waited patiently as we selectively chose one of each item before sitting down to eat with our boba in hand. There are a few dine-in tables, maybe 4 or so, so it could fill up easily especially during weekday lunch hours with the high school students walking over from school. They don’t stay too long though, maybe 30 mins or so and then head out. But it got overwhelmingly crowded for that period of time while we sat amid the lunch crowd chaos, mainly of students crowding in and outside the restaurant. They were all polite though, so it didn’t bother us too much aside from being slightly caught off guard. Would return :)

I love Jook Time. My Co-Workers and I come here at least 3 times a week. SUPER cheap eats. There is lots of dim sum options(and you can buy by the piece) or if you want some«fast food» type chinese food they serve that here too(think fried rice, mapo tofu, green beans, chow fun, etc.) Everything tastes great. My only complaint is that sometimes some of the food items will have been sitting out for a while, so they’re not piping hot when you order. Same with the jook(especially if you come later in the day). However, the women working behind the counter are always sweet enough to microwave your food items for you if you’d like. There’s not a lot of seating available, and can get SUPER packed during lunch hours(12pm-2pm). CASHONLY !!! and they are closed on Tuesdays

This dim sum was sooooogood! I wish it were closer to my house. I loved the taro root dumplings and the bbq pork buns… There also was some kind of flat pan fried dumpling with peas and carrots and chicken/shrimp that was so good too. Will def come here if I’m ever in the area!

My dad loves hanging out here for his daily coffee and newspaper needs. Their dim sum is okay, nothing too special, but still delicious. You can stay and eat, but most people just order take out. It’s very affordable and a great way to start the day. Their real highlight is their fried chicken. Holy sweet poultry gods is it delicious. A super crispy(thin!) skin with an amazing sweetness fried into the meat. Yummmm. It’s unlike any I’ve have ever had and I make sure to get it every time I’m home in the city. With a name like jook time, you would expect this review to rave about the Chinese staple. Nope. Get the chicken.

This is a great spot for a quick, casual breakfast or dim sum to go. Most items are priced at 3 for $ 2 or less and any single item(other than crêpe rolls) is less than $ 1. The price is amazing, making it even more delicious. We spent less than $ 10 for a simple Chinese breakfast that includes 2 small porridges, 1 huge Chinese donut, 1 char siu bun, and 1 egg tart. Can’t wait to come back for their doufuhua(tofu dessert)!

One of the better to-go dim sum places in the richmond/sunset area to get your quick dim sum cravings without having to wait in a ridiculous line for brunch. The ladies are patient and don’t yell at you… Affordable and homey. We really enjoyed the porridge on a cold morning but I would pass on the«chinese tamale» they put way too many crushes peanuts in it so I felt like half of it was over powered by a peanut butter like taste. I appreciate that the seating area was clean when we went… Many of the other to go dim sum places dining area felt sticky and deterred our eating experience. So kudos to jook time. Of note: they charge for hot water and it’s cash only!

I normally wouldn’t go all the way to the Outer Richmond for take out dim sum, but I stumbled across Jook Time when looking for a place to eat after HSB. It was a short walk from the park, I knew I could count on them to be quick, and they were open for another 30 minutes. They had a few closing specials, and my friend and I ended up ordering a ton of shrimp dumplings(including a shrimp with cilantro variation), shrimp rice noodles, taro pastries, sesame balls, and a coconut dessert. Everything was tasty(though nothing that differentiates Jook Time from other take out dim sum spots), and if I lived in the neighborhood, I could see it being an easy take-out option.

Depending on what you’re looking for, Jook time may either be for you or not. If you are on a budget and want a cheap meal, come here. Don’t expect top notch dim sum, however. The shu mai, har gow, and beef noodle roll was all pretty decent. The egg custard was a little sad, though… needs to be way flakier. For the price of $ 15 for my friend and I, however, who are we to complain? I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here, but probably would do take out if I lived around the area.

despite being named jook time, this place only had two types of jook. And both were terrible. And cold. A better name for this place would’ve been joke time. Much of their dim sum was not tasty. and my lady and I ordered a lot. it was not just a case of bad luck, or selecting wrong items. There was no redeeming dish whatsoever. it’s pretty hard to mess up shrimp hargow, but they managed to mess it up royally. their egg custard was so shallow, and so bland. It was the smallest and worst egg custard I’ve ever eaten. I am Chinese. My parents are Chinese. I grew up in a Hawaii where we have respectable Chinese food. all that to say I am a decent evaluator of Chinese food. I can honestly say this is the worst Chinese restaurant I’ve ever stepped foot in. I saw two people outside the restaurant contemplating whether to come in or not. I felt compelled to tell them that it was not worth it and that they should seek out another place to eat. My experience here was that bad.

Everything was very average — not bad but not really good either. We got the pork and duck egg jook which lacked in flavor. Very plain. The pork and shrimp dumplings were good, but their hot sauce was really salty so I didn’t like it as much. The best part of the meal was the egg custard bun. It was sweet and delicious! Overall, this place is open early and cheap, but I wouldn’t come back here if I was craving some good dim sum.

Went here specifically for congee. They had 皮蛋瘦肉粥 on the menu in Chinese but the english translation was Preserved Egg and Duck Porridge. I’ve never seen this porridge made with duck — usually it’s pork. Flavor wise, the congee was slightly below average. It was saltier than I expected but not the standard preserved egg salty flavor… probably from the duck. It didn’t have much egg or meat in it either. Overall this was pretty disappointing :(

Comfort food, get inside my belly, now! Woke up feeling super gross and nothing seemed to make sense except some good ol’ «Pei Dan Sau Yuk Jook». For my canto friends out there, you know what I’m talking about. The boy found this place on Unilocal and we embarked on a journey from one neighborhood to the next. We got a large Duck egg porridge which was so so so good. I think it just hit the spot. And you know it’s good when the grannies before and after you in line get a large jook too. We also got: beef noodle, «Ham Sui gok» which is like a fried pastry with meat and mushrooms inside(my favorite all time), hai gow, and siu mai. Lastly, a «Lo Mai Gai» which was the chicken and rice wrapped in leaves. All of this was finger licking good. Dim sum is known to give people who aren’t too used to the style of food a bit of tummy ache which happens to me and the boy but after we’re still fine! Any time I’m in the area and I need a bit of comfort food, I’m heading straight here. And for my friends who don’t know Cantonese, all good. The ladies speak English and there are menu and signs in both English and Chinese.

If you’re looking for mounds of tasty food for super cheap, you’ve come to the right place. Back in the day, like waaaaay back in the day, when I was a broke college student, I would’ve been here grubbin’ it up and eating like a king! The food is THAT cost friendly. We’re talking about shrimp dumplings, sesame balls, tofu desserts, potstickers, shu mai, little shrimp cake thingy mabobs, rice cakes, and so so sooooo much more. I must’ve bought up at least 15 different dimsum selections at a little over 10 buckaroos. The food is made fresh everyday. You can see the lil ol’ Chinese ladies rolling and prepping the dimsum without skipping a beat. My only gripe is that it’s alllllll the way out in a quiet neighborhood and not so easy or convenient for me to get to. Otherwise, I’m sure the close by residents consider Jook Time a treasured little gem. There is a decent amount of seating available for those who prefer to dine in. Service is helpful and quick. Nice find!

The fact that the lady at the counter speaks English is already a good sign! The dim sum is amazing! I got my usual dim sum stuff: chicken siomay, pork bun, chicken rice wrap, sesame ball, and mango tea. Cheap! Clean! Speak English! Good Food! Five stars!

I LOVE the duck egg and pork porridge here! On top of tasting great, it’s a great value too! I got 3BBQ pork pastries, 2 custard filled baos, and a large duck egg and pork porridge here for about $ 7! I shared this meal, and was actually full too! Which means I had a satisfying meal for about $ 3.50… seriously, it doesn’t get any better. This little place is a quick serve and mostly to go place. There is very little space for eating in. but luckily we were able to get a spot and take a closer look at everything they had to offer! They have all the typical dim sum items here for a really good price! The only thing I didn’t like was that the food wasn’t served steaming hot. Only the porridge was very hot. Otherwise, everything else was a bit lukewarm. BUT the price will keep me coming back here. and I can’t wait to come back to satisfy my dim sum/porridge cravings for a good value! Oh! and don’t forget. this place is CASHONLY

Good freekin god I still dream about the dim sum here… After staying at a friends house and after a drunken crazy night I woke up and my car was parked in front of this place. I glanced up in a fuzzy haze and a choir of angels went off because there was a line out the door and I thought hmmmm dim sum for breakfast? why not? Well I think it was fate or destiny because that was some of the best dim sum I have ever had! Six pieces for three dollars? So cheap too! I took home large quantities of everything that looked good… so yeah I had quite the large quantity of dim sum. I don’t know what all of the names are of the items but just go ahead and get them all. I’m glad I wasn’t kicked out because I was white and the place was full of glaring Asians. I think that’s a pretty good sign when you go to an Asian place and all the Asians are eating there that means they’re onto something right? I know I like the shrimp dumpling and there was this one shriveled looking thing with peas or something in it that was so freaking good I wish I had bought 20 of those… There was a mushroom one with peanuts in it and that was tasty too! I was not disappointed by a single one the only thing I was disappointed in was that I didn’t pick up more!

I’m so glad Jook time is by my house! On lazy days when I’m craving take out dim sum, Jook time hits the spot! They have a good variety of dim sum for a small shop and cheap prices! Such a great value! For dumplings, they offer: –Chicken & vegetable dumpling –Chicken dumpling –Beef dumpling –Pork dumpling –Shrimp dumpling –Mushroom & vegetable dumpling I’ve had the Pork dumpling & Shrimp dumpling and both were delicious! The Pork dumpling had a nice meaty flavor. The Shrimp had a good amount of shrimp and the wrapper had a great texture. I also like their Rice porridge with pork and duck egg! I bought a small last year for $ 1.95! That can’t be beat! For take out dim sum in my neighborhood, I’ll always hit up Jook time!

Small dim sum place in Richmond For a small dim sum shop, this place is actually fairly decent, with a surprisingly large selection of dim sum, as well as noodles, congee, and rice. The food quality is also pretty high – the spare rib rice is warm and flavorful, the congee seems to have been cooked with a mix of ingredients, and the dim sum, like shrimp dumplings and rice-rolls all tasted authentic. The only comment I have is that the dim sum isn’t always hot – since it’s sitting on the counter, the food can actually become quite cold at times, which is definitely not good for dim sum. If you microwave the food at home, it would be perfect. Overall, the taste is definitely authentic. Would probably come back if I am in the area.
