Stayed at the Hotel Rex for 3 nights during our last visit to San Francisco and couldn’t wait to join Unilocal to give them my 5 stars! It’s a quaint hotel in a perfect location, and the staff was exceptional! It’s an artsy hotel with friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Stayed at Hotel Rex for fifteen years plus. Last two years their Internet has been so slow that I had to go to the café next door to finish work! Lovely hotel and people but in 21st C SFO to have dysfunctional Internet is a crime

Their Mountain View location is better than most hotels — boutique or otherwise. The customer service is as great as the décor they are known for. Complimentary coffee, wine in the lobby, hassle-free parking… I could go on and on!

I have only had the opportunity to stay at one of JDV’s hotels, the Hotel Avante in Mountain View. Love the décor, friendly service and the price is right! The last time I stayed there, I ended up extending my stay by an additional two nights. I am getting ready to stay up in SF at another branch of JDV and am looking forward to my visit!

I should apply for a job as Joie de Vivre’s official pimp. I’ve stayed at Drisco, Rex, and Carlton, but I’ve referred many friends and family to several of the other hotels and everyone has always loved the experience. Each hotel is based on a collection of adjectives that Chip gathers from the people living around the hotel, based on what they feel the character of the neighborhood is. He also uses a specific magazine as inspiration for each hotel. I find all of this terribly fascinating and it has given me a bit of a crush on the guy. My love for them is so great that I’m having to restrain myself from emailing to ask when their Sacramento hotel will start construction. I can’t wait to check out what character they’ve decided downtown Sacramento has.
