What’s with the negative Unilocal reviews?! Jewish Family & Children’s Services(JFCS) is an absolutely amazing organization. They offer services to a wide range of individuals in need regardless of their religion, ethnicity, race, age, disability etc. If you are in financial trouble, need a temporary place to stay, or a warm meal they are willing to work with you. They are a truly special non-profit that takes pride in serving the community. I volunteered with JFCS a few months ago after I learned about their Canine Corps program. This is a special program where you train your pooch to pass a test in order to become a canine companion. Once they are trained, the pups visit seniors and other community members. Because let’s face it, who doesn’t love the company of a pooch?! I worked with my pup Rosie and attended training classes, but unfortunately she did not pass the test :(Rosie is quite the class clown and is easily distracted by the other doggies. I would love to keep working with Rosie so that she can eventually pass the test. Masha and the crew at JFCS are amazing and I would love to work on another project with them. They offer additional volunteer opportunities with holocaust survivors, seniors, adults with illnesses or disabilities, children, and emigres. You can also volunteer to work shabbat dinners, shop for the food pantry, tutor, deliver meals, and the list continues! If you’re interested in volunteering there are a wide range of opportunities available to you. I love this organization and I really wish that more people were aware of all that they do. I highly recommend attending one of their events and volunteering with them. Although my pup is not yet a canine companion, we had a great experience attending the training sessions and learning about all of the services that they offer. If you know someone in need or want to lend a hand, do yourself a favor and contact them. You will not regret it!

My daughter is involved in a Holocaust study program that is hosted at the JF& C Services offices. They have an excellent research library and some Holocaust artifacts on display — fascinating. I highly recommend their visiting their library — thousands of books on the Holocaust.

They say they help everyone, not just Jewish people, but they don’t mention that if you are not Jewish they charge you astronomically more. Based on a sliding scale my fee would have been $ 35 if I was Jewish and $ 80 since I am not. Why even tell me that? I don’t mind paying $ 80 to be honest, but after being told it’s only because I’m not Jewish, sorry that does not sit well at all. It’s fine if they just want to serve only the Jewish community, but they should not say that they help everyone. I guess technically they do, but at more than double the price. Thanks a lot.

I am a HUGE fan of Jewish Family & Children’s Services! They offer so much to so many people, regardless of faith, age, ability, race, creed, etc. I think some people are under the impression that because the word«Jewish» is in the title that they only help Jewish people. This isn’t the case. JFCS offers services to anyone in need, from therapy/counseling, to support groups, adoption services, all kinds of help for seniors, services for emigres, and much, much more! They are VERY LGBT-friendly, offer excellent training to their volunteers, and the staff is appropriately discreet. So what is my experience with JFCS that leads me to be such a huge fan? I saw a therapist through JFCS for a while, attended a Bereavement Support Group after my beloved grandfather passed away(this particular type of support group is offered as a FREE service!!), and now offer my time as a volunteer through the Seniors at Home program. So, I’ve been both on the giving and receiving end of JFCS and have only good things to say about this particular organization, which gives so much to so many people and done their part to save so many lives! I heartily recommend their services to anyone, and especially encourage people looking for a meaningful volunteer experience to consider becoming a companion to a senior citizen through the Seniors at Home volunteer program!(The woman to contact is Debbi Goodman)
