I had been looking for my *teacher* and Janet is it. She is the real deal, in so many ways. There are so many layers to this practice and one gets to experience them all, as deeply as needed/wanted/not wanted. It’s your choice of course but Janet will give you the nectar should you be ready for it.

Honestly, sooooo over rated. I’ve taken her class several times hoping I will love it. For all the hype I expect intelligent sequencing and a deeply moving sweaty class. I think her strong points are really good music and beautiful chanting. I don’t think she teaches a good flow class. She doesn’t introduce any new challenging poses. Her classes are all pretty mellow even if it is listed as a 2 – 3 class. Her sequences never build up to any interesting poses. She is good for a beginner or someone who just wants a mellow vibe, but not looking for any breakthroughs. Her classes are totally flat if you ask me. I really wish she would work on better sequencing, her classes would be so much more invigorating.

Fun. Unpretentious. Deep. Vigorous. Moving Yoga Practice. HIGHLY recommended to anyone looking for a great experience with Yoga Asana. And you’ll smile a lot in class and not take it seriously. What a treat!

There are a lot of instructors in the SF yoga scene — few are as loyally subscribed as Janet Stone. Yoga class with Janet can be daunting at first. With classes packed, you’re lucky to get 6″ between you and your neighbor. Janet always has you introduce yourselves… after all, you’re going to be sweating a waterfall by the end of the 90 minutes. Her classes may start with chanting… or she may notice a few buddha bellies and decide to go straight into yoga crunches. Depending on the day of the week(Monday, Wednesdays try your soul). Fridays are mellow. Sundays are restorative(probably for the butt-kicking MW to follow). She teaches vinyasa flow. This is where you have flowing movement from one pose to another to her latest groovy tunes. Every pose has varying levels of difficulty. There is no judgement. There is breath. There is open-mindedness. At the end of class, there’s always a line of people saying, «Hi.» She’s so approachable and so genuine. Yoga with Janet is more than just fun exercise in a room of toned-bodies. Janet brought me the quiet in my mind that looks inward to the tidal flow of inhale and exhale. Of «having» and«letting go.» That bending is not weakness and stiffness is not strength.

Janet Stone is one of the most incredible yoga teachers I have practiced with. She offers both mellow and radiant flow classes at the Yoga Tree on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Her sequencing is poetic, her focus on pranayama is superior and her ability to audibly and visually guide students through vinyasa is unparalleled. She brings it! Each class is a diverse mix. Her chanting of Kirtan/Bhajan and her deep understanding of the 8 Limb Path make her one of San Francisco’s most beautiful yoga teachers.
