Ate here for lunch and all I have to say is that the chicken Philly cheesesteak was amazingly delicious. Definitely recommend.

I’m by no means a cheesesteak expert, but I wasn’t highly impressed by my experience here. I would say just about every part of the visit was average. I came here recently on a day where I took a longer lunch and wanted to watch an inning or two of the Giants game. I was greeted by a lady who really made no effort to even say hello to me. Not that I take that as a given, but it threw my mood off. I was craving mushrooms and beef, so it’s only natural that I went for their mushroom w/​beef cheesesteak. I was excited because I’ve heard good things about it from close friends, but personally was dissapointed when I got it.
I’ll give credit where it’s due: they give you a good chunk of meat. That’s always nice. What I found dissapointing was the actual execution of the cheesesteak itself. The bread was soggy because they overdid it on the cheese. I felt like there was as much cheese as meat, and for some people that me work. For me, not so much. I don’t mind messy or even cheesy, but I do not like soggy bread. Bread, believe it or not, is one of the most important parts of any sandwich other than the meat itself.
I will say one thing: they have a great setup that makes it a perfect place to watch sports and grab a beer due to the communal table they have nearby the TV. Maybe I caught them on an off day, so I’ll be back to give the cheesesteak another go. Maybe with a bit less cheese this time :)

I noticed most of the bad reviews here are because of service. I’ll have to agree. The cheesesteak was good but I won’t be back because of the lack luster, blah service. I’ve been in some sort of hospitality job my whole career and I know if I’m not feeling good, FAKE IT! Every time I come back to the Marina, I leave disappointed.

Jakes steaks is by far the most delicious cheese steak place i have ever tasted i love cheese steak and this place is the best tons of steak too great beer good atmosphere

Coming from Philly, it has been a battle to find a decent Cheesesteaks. Upon first impression, this place definitely has that bit of Philly vibe. Hmm, maybe I am in the right place after all.
Ordering 12″ mushrooms cheesesteaks which took about 10 minutes.
The heaps of thinly sliced meat smothered in Whiz cheese between hoagies, this is what I am talking about. (Alright, some may argue Whiz is not cheese. But heck, it’s a must for Cheesesteaks!)
Meat comes in good portion, decently marinated, not overdone. Part of the cheesesteaks’ secret is the hoagie. In this case, the hoagie could be better since it doesn’t match the meat too well. The satisfaction level as you bite into Philly cheesesteaks is not on that level yet. Need more hoagie power!!!
The battle for the ultimate Cali cheesesteaks is not over yet. But, in the mean time I’ll be dropping by Jake’s once in a while.
On the other hand… I am not used to paying extra for banana peppers and spicy pickled peppers. It’s not a big deal, but it feels like it takes a chunk off cheesesteaks experience. (–_​-​«)

Amazing steak sandwich.
It was around ~ $ 11 each for a meal deal. Regular Cheese-​steak Philly + Waffle Fries + Can of Soda.
If you like beer, you’ll be at home. Several beers on tap with happy hour offers available. No Wine/​Liquor available.
Fast service and friendly place. Well worth it!

If your in the area, it’s the best place to swing in for a great tasting snack! Delicious

Being from philly myself and a new resident of San Francisco it’s good to get a taste of home! The fact that they have Amoroso rolls and know the meaning of «Wiz-​Wit» and «Wiz-​Witout» makes it amazing! If you are looking for an authentic Philly Cheesesteak this is the place! They even have Tasteykakes! If you are originally from philly and want a taste of home without actually going home this is the place

Cheesesteak was plain and simple, pleasant and delightful: 8 inches of tender meat on a bun with a pepper on the side.

Very quality cheesesteak. Price is reasonable. Definitely a staple in the rotation and is a great pre-​drinking meal or cure for the hangover.

From a Philly native, Thank you Jake’s for a solid steak! If the wall-​to-​wall-​to-​ceiling Philadelphia décor doesn’t draw you in, let the cheesesteaks. Overall pretty good, and they keep it real with topping options so you know they’re legit. (Unlike some places that let u add avocado? What?) Friendly, fast service and tastykakes!
Not the best I’ve had, but it’ll get the job done when Tony Luke’s & Jim’s are 3000 miles away :)

Very decent Philly Cheese. Not the VERY best in the City in my opinion but this place still rocks. Check in on Unilocal and get a free beer while you wait and life is just grand. Things that make me keep coming back:
— It’s in my hood.
— HUGE portions.
— Friendly Service
— Very cheesy sandwich.
— Free beer, and I like beer.

Apparently they don’t like to answer the phones here. Phone just rang and rang. So I had to place an order online.
I arrive after twenty minutes for pick up, I hear the phone ringing off the hook again, employee just looks at the phone.
After I get my food and tipped for pick up, the waffle fries needed to be deep fried longer, or fried twice. The cheesesteak with whiz and onions was bland. They really need to season their food.
Will I be back? That would be a no.

Came here with the family and had an amazing time. Ordered the mushroom cheesesteak with provolone and onions. When I took the first bite it was like I had never had a cheesesteak in my life. Amazing! The service was equally as amazing. Thanks! Will try to come back again.

When 2 die hard birds fans find themselves in Cali where should one watch the game … Enter Unilocal and a quick search for best place to watch the eagles game. A quick drive from our hotel led us here and we arrived before the regulars descended upon this place. By kick off this place was swimming with black and green and was as loud and intense as a home game or neighborhood dive bar in the streets of south Philly .
We ordered some snacks and realized that they don’t have many booze options if you aren’t a fan of suds so I became the DD for our drive to SFO by default :(
Would def recommend this place for those that bleed green.
Bar is small so get there early we had prime time seats in front of the largest tv

Philly cheese steak done right! I have passed by Jake’s for years, wanting to order to go. I finally thought about getting it… since I haven’t ordered one in 2 years!
I was pleasantly surprised by the original. The bread/​hoagie was delicious and not too doughy. I hate when there’s too much bread, and in this case, you need it because there is so much steak in the sandwich! The cheese whiz is perfectly and evenly spread through all the meat, which makes each bite flawless. I ordered the 8 inch and it was the perfect size for me without feeling too guilty.
I can’t wait to go back to fulfill my philly cravings!

Tiny venue that manages to fit about 25 – 30 people inside, with limited outdoor seating as well. The action centers around the bar in the middle, where there are several sports screens on at any time, while you order your cheesesteaks and other food items at a register off to the side. As for the cheesesteaks, they were acceptably average. Fairly simple neighborhood joint, in my opinion.

I’ve dined at Jake’s every now and then. On my most recent visit I had a regular cheesteak whiz with and added jalapeños.
I thought it was decent. My issue with this cheesesteak and perhaps most cheesesteaks overall is the relatively bland flavor. Even with the jalapeños add-​on, which somewhat disappointingly costs extra, I had to douse it with hot sauce to really taste like there was something there.
I’ve also had the onion rings which come with a nice ranch dipping as well as waffle fries, which was somewhat of a novelty given how few places serve waffle fries.
OK overall.
