I’m not spending a dime in a store where the owner stands outside to smoke his cigareetes so he can throw the butts in the gutter out front. Wonder how many of his butts have ended up in the bay over the years.

This is a convenient corner store! It has many grocery and household items, but the convenience comes at a cost. The prices are high! I noticed the cost of ice cream is especially high! It does have reasonably priced wine though. This store is incredibly useful though if you live in the area and you’re in a bind — like you ran out of toilet paper, an item you need while cooking, or you need some more drinks for your party. During the high Mega Millions lottery, I bought a lotto ticket here like everyone else. It was quick and easy! This is an incredibly useful store for necessities and a nice location for those in the neighborhood, but I only come here if I absolutely need something and can’t go anywhere cheaper.

I am loving a liquor/convenience store right on my corner! Perfect when halfway through cooking I realize I am missing some essentials… like a beer in my hand! or entertaining and refreshments are running low! It has a surprisingly large selection for its outside appearance, plenty of wine, liquor and beer choices as well as a solid selection of groceries. On my last visit the guy behind the counter was chuckling away while watching some TV, nice friendly atmosphere.

Maybe all the other people on here were drunk, or maybe they switched management or something — but twice now in less than a week the guy at the front of this store has been a jerk in the evenings. They advertised a sale on beer, and then he took down the sign and said he didn’t know why it was up there. Then, didn’t give us the lower price and tried to charge us double. Anyone decent at customer service knows that you provide the discount, and then don’t anymore once you take the sign down. Then my roommates came home tonight claiming how the guy was being a jerk to them. I’d rather walk the extra two blocks from my house to cala.

This is an «ok» store. I started going here a couple of months ago. At the time, I was happy that it was clean, had a good selection, long hours and good prices. However, after tonight? Nah, I will only there now if I’m desperate for something late at night and nothing else is open. The prices were good a few months ago, but now it’s ridiculously expensive. It’s MOREEXPENSIVE than L&W on Clay and Leavenworth! I thought they were too expensive, but whoa, this place takes the cake. They want $ 3.99 for a tiny Odwalla! 85 cents for one orange! Anyway, whatever. The owner only seems interested in watching TV. Overall, I will only go here if absolutely necessary. Otherwise, I will skip it from now on.

I love this store. I am there a couple times a week. Some highlights: –The guy that runs the place is awesome. He owes me a winning lottery ticket though! –They have a great wine selection. Try the Malbecs from Mendoza, Argentina. –He even stocked a favorite beer of mine just because I told him I couldn’t find it anywhere else. This is my go-to spot.

Do most of my grocery shopping here. Yes that’s right I do grocery shopping at a liquor store. WHAT?! I love this place. Its right next to my house. The staff is so friendly and happy all the time. When I moved to the hood there was a guy there everyday who wore a cowboy hat(every day) and talked to me about raves. He always had techno or 92.7 on. Then one day he disappeared. And he hasn’t been back? Where did he go? Everyone else is still awesome and don’t judge me for buying peanut butter a few times a week. I love you J&H!

If you’ve lived on Russian Hill for a long time, you’ll remember Peter and Angela, who ran the store for years and years before the new guys remodeled and very much upgraded it. You’ll also remember that Nook used to be this awesomely ghetto tiny video store with moody, angst-ridden employees. But I digress. Yes, Fallopian, this is technically Nob Hill, but everyone still considers this corner Russian Hill. Anyway, If you live within a block or two of here, this is your store. The owner and the young guys he hires are always super friendly. The young guys are usually new to the country and struggling to get by, but just stoked to be there nonetheless. Yes, the beer is marked up an additional $ 1 over the usual SF markup. However, this corner market is a neighborhood institution. Come in there more than once a week and they will know you by name. As mentioned, a good wine selection for a small corner market, and they always have a a few wines for well under $ 10 that are totally drinkable.

Day in and out, month after month, these guys continue to dominate my outgoing cash flow. There’s good reason for this: I’m lazy and I’m usually pretty broke. But what the hell, they’re nice there, I mean, really nice. Forget the Hyde Street Raw Bar or Le Beau or anything within spitting distance on Polk, I’d just rather walk half a block downhill and return to my sedentary dwelling with my lovely, low-light companion. We collect dead animals and toe nail clippings in old jars full of spit.

i loved this place before, but i like the layout even more now that it’s under new ownership… it’s my go to when: a) the friend that is staying over has forgotten their toothbrush, and i’m not up to sharing mine! b) i’ve just poured myself a bowl of lucky charms and realized i have no milk! c) i’m about to watch a movie but am in need of microwaveable popcorn d) i’m making dinner and forgot to buy a bottle of wine(or any other spirits since they now carry lots!!) e) my drink recipe calls for fresh lime juice! f) i need to take some cash out of the atm before i head out g) it’s hot and i can’t make it through another minute without an it’s it ice cream bar! and the list goes on… the guys that work in here are SUPER nice, SUPER friendly and SUPER big on flattering me… does it get any better?

Best corner store in Russian Hill. Surprisingly wide variety of groceries, wine, beer, produce for its size. New owner and employees are incredibly nice and seeing them everyday(I live on the block) makes me feel safe and they are fun to chat with. They also order specific foods by request– HUGE bonus. You tell em what you want, and they’ll have it the next week! They are my «go-to» for everything– eggs, milk, bread, wine… Love it! In response to fallopian tube — 1) Nob Hill or Russian Hill, whatever, call it a technicality. Those who live in the hood consider it Russian Hill. 2) Le Beau is a full blown market, not exactly in the«corner store», but as long as you’re going to play that card, you should see my review —

Hooray for the corner store! I lived across the street from this place for about two years, and I swear I was in there at least 3 or 4 times a week. The selection of stuff there was incredibly random, some grocery items, a decent amount of cheap wine, cold drinks, random frozen foods, chips, cheap phone cards, etc. Since I’ve moved to a more suburban area, I have come to realize just how awesome the corner store really is. I was constantly in there to pick up little things like a bottle of wine, or calamine lotion, or cornbread mix. Now I have to go to all the trouble of driving to get that stuff. What a waste. I knocked off one star because their ATM is right next to the magazine racks, and they only sell porn magazines. I’m sorry, but sometimes I’m not in the mood for all that flesh when all I want is to get my money from the machine, you know?
