This restaurant is opened at another location, or so I found out. I ordered from eat244:25pm, and was given a delivery estimate of 4:40pm, I assume because it was so close to my house. At about 6PM, I messaged eat24 who said it was on its way. At 6:15, we called restaurant where woman told us all deliveries we out for delivery. At 6:40 we messages eat24 who again said it was out for delivery. While on text with eat24, the woman from the restaurant called and said driver was 25 minutes away, they were working out of another location and it was busy at restaurant so those customers come first. I said it had been over 2 hours, this was BBQ(and expensive at that, not a $ 10 burger — which was the price for delivery BTW), and this was too long of a wait… so go ahead and cancel order and hung up. She did call back, saying she wanted to make it right — which is why I gave 2 star instead of 1 — but I was hungry and just wanted to go get food(not cold food if it was going to take 25 min). Point is — make sure locations are correct for online ordering — I order restaurants close to my house so food comes fast and hot. Also, don’t say 2 times food is out for delivery(to me and to eat24) when it has not left the restaurant at all. Lastly, these are expensive $ 20BBQ plates with $ 10 delivery fee charged + tip. Online orders should be treated with the same courtesy in-house orders get… or don’t offer it as option of you can’t.

Everything I could put in a review would pale in comparison to how mouth agonizingly delicious this BBQ is. Do yourself a favor, and just order all of it.

Wow, that is some seriously LEGITBBQ! We just ordered ribs, sausages, chicken, collard greens, mac n cheese, potato salad and corn bread for an office lunch and everything was fantastic! The 20+ people all agreed, this is one of the best BBQ spots in town, hands down!

GONE! Looks like the Hyde Away Blues BBQ is NOMAS. Today they removed the last of the decorations and kitchen equipment. First that space was a coffee shop, then the Hyde Away Blues BBQ… what shall be next?

Sadly, an overly expensive experiment in sub-par BBQ. Beyond smokey and slathered in average sauce that reeked of a big, sloppy, bourbon french-kiss. The sides were lightly portioned, just shy of stingy. Only the seafood mac’n cheese could warrant repeating. The delivery person lectured me on his parking troubles, arriving 20 minutes after the promised 60 minute delivery window. I’m begging… can anyone please tell me where is the BBQ king of SF? It’s NOT this place…

In a search for the best ribs in the city, I almost broke down and went to Applebee’s ONLY because I knew they had them. Sometimes Unilocal!research can get exhausting when all of the places in mind have 4 stars(and your date will usually only settle for anything above 4). It becomes an investigation to find the shortcomings of each establishment. Anyway, I’m glad I came here for take out. It was really busy tonight, however Tammie still made me feel very welcome as I waited to order. It is small and in the Tenderloin. It is also delicious. I ordered the rib special, which included a huge slab of ribs, baked beans, collard greens and honey biscuits. It was definitely enough for 2 meals for 2 people. The ribs were way better than what I would have gotten at Applebee’s and much bigger. The sauce is sweet and complimented the smokey flavor of the meat. If you enjoy eating the fatty parts on ribs, this place is for you. Overall a great experience because I knew what to expect from the reviews. This is not the kind of place you go before a yoga class or long run. If you crave good ribs that you want to eat at home while watching Netflix, give this place a try.

Empty Carbs and Calories. This is not good BBQ. The pork ribs, possibly originally OK, the ‘hot’ link(Costco?), and the(possibly) brisket were all doused in the same fat inducing, super salty sauce. The ‘lobster’ mac and cheese seems devoid of any real or fake lobster. Everything is warmed up(sort of) in a flavor killing microwave. The friendly service can not make up for the overpriced dishes and sides. You will do better in any other BBQ joint in town. Cash only, no booze, good cornbread.

Holy Cow!!! So a friend who works at 3-star Michelin told about this place and it was the best BBQ in SF by far! The brisket was beyond description and if you like that fatty piece to gnaw, you won’t be disappointed. The candied yam side was unbelievable! Feels like you are back home in the Tenderloin!

Like many other commenters, I really wanted to love this place. The lady who works there is so lovely, and I really liked the way the place looks. I love good BBQ, so I had very high hopes. Unfortunately the food was super salty and sugary. I’m European, so maybe I’m just not used to the sugar and salt levels in the States. The ribs were drenched in super sweet bbq sauce and everything else was so salty I’m not sure I’ll be able to finish the contents of the box that’s now sitting in my fridge. It’s a real shame. I’ll give three stars for the atmosphere, but I might go elsewhere next time I get a craving for barbecue. If you like extremely salty food and lots of sugar, this might be the place for you.

The bad. Yes, it’s expensive. Yes, it’s on the sweet side. Yes, it’s in the Tenderloin. However, it’s the best barbecue in San Francisco without a fight. She uses a special blend of wood for smoking(hickory, cherry and peach). Bourbon seems to be in almost everything. The lobster and crawfish mac and cheese is as good anything I’ve eaten in the Delta and that includes Mary Mahoney’s. Totally decadent! Best greens west of the Mississippi! I defy anyone to say where they’ve had better. The bad reviews I’ve read here seem to be pretty much from prissy know-nothings who lay a claim to special knowledge of southern cooking. Ooooo — it’s in the Tenderloin. Ooooo — it’s so small. Ooooo — they heat things in a microwave right in front of you. Look you. I come from a southern family myself, go to the South every year, have travelled all over the South and have eaten at some of the finest southern restaurants there are. Galatoire’s, Brennan’s, Drago’s, Mary Mahoney’s, City Grocery, Miller Union, Hog and Hominy, etc. I’ve had the best of Memphis BBQ — Germantown Commissary, Neely’s BBQ, Interstate BBQ, Rendezvous and some of the not so renowned. I’ve also eaten at some of the best spots in Kansas City, Nashville and South Carolina. This is leaving out all of the great southern diners and BBQ joints along the way. Of course, Mom’s fried chicken, biscuits and gravy and pecan pie is still the best. So, yes, I’m proud to say I’m a San Franciscan and know good southern cooking too. And I say! these people are killing it in a town that is the best in so many ways but short on authentic southern cooking. So pull up your big girl panties and go have something that will remind you of the South. You can thank me later.

Tammy was very sweet. However, so was the food — so watch out! Definitely get the mac and cheese, but pass on the bourbon baked beans. As delicious as they sound(with bacon, to boot), these beans were super saccharine. The honey butter buns sound exciting, but the execution was missing something. The beef brisket was good. Not the best I’ve ever had, but not the worst. I liked the sauce on this one, but on a scale of 1 – 10(1 being dry and 10 being moist), I’d say the meat was a 7.5. The pork ribs were on first bite — again — sweet; however, the fatty goodness inside made this(and the mac and cheese, of course) the star of the meal. We also ordered the sweet peach southern tea and Tammy was sweet enough to give us a «free refill», ie two drinks for the price of one, but I could have done without this one. It tasted like sweetened peach jello(before it sets). In any case, I enjoyed my meal here. Seating is limited, and yes, it’s in a slightly seedy part of the city, but Hyde Away Blues BBQ(oh, how I love the pun) is worth a visit. Remember: cash only!

This was good BBQ! I had the brisket, bourbon beans, lobster mac & cheese. really tastes like southern cooking. I have to say the corn bread rivals that of ad hoc. Just in keep in mind — they only cook so much a day & once they are out — they are out for the day. Don’t hate if you are too late!

I’m a Texan. So I know good BBQ and I personally strive for perfection and finding the best spot in the city(I’ve been to almost all of them). Now most of you should read my first line and see the star I gave and be good to go from there — if you know anything about Texans and their love of BBQ. However, for those still confused let me break it down for you. The best BBQ I’ve had in my home state have all come from little hole in the wall spots including one of my all time faves that I bought at a gas station in the middle of West Texas in a little side kitchen being rented out and converted into a mini restaurant. Immediately walking into Hyde Away — I got those same vibes. It’s small, its off the beaten path and its very southern. The lady working the shop took me right home with her southern hospitality. If I didnt have to get back to work that day, hell I would have spent several hours there just basting in the smell of BBQ, eating ribs and, and enjoying some good company. But lets get to the food; its smoked well, seasoned well, prepped well, and I’ll be damned if it doesn’t taste damn good too. I bought brisket and rib tips and the rib tips were NO joke! w00000 boii! I could’ve finished it all in one sitting — ½lb of brisket and more rib tips than I knew what to do with. But I didn’t purposefully so I could enjoy more BBQ that next day. Now when I save food — even when still hungry — just so I could eat more the next day, thats when you know this place is onto something. I’ll definitely be back and if you want good BBQ you may even run into me there, cause I’m about to become a regular!

There is nothing bad to say about this restaurant. Hands down the best service I have ever received. Also the best ribs and mac n cheese that I have tasted. I literally cleaned the mac n cheese bowl and licked every bit of sauce off my fingers. I highly recommend eating in if you can. The owner and her son are such a pleasure to be around, it will brighten your day. I will definitely be stopping by any time I’m craving BBQ. It was really reassuring to eat some really good food in SF, I’ve tried many restaurants and left feeling unsatisfied but that was not the case with Hyde Away Blues BBQ!

I want to like this place. The owner is super cool and the bbq chicken was very tasty but most of the menu wasn’t available the afternoon I stopped by which was kind of a let down. The prices are also high too for what it is.

I love this place. Lil May does a great job. She does have a full restaurant with the pit and everything in San Bruno where every thing is expertly made that is why she has the microwave to warm up all the food she is serves. Not only is the food amazing Lil May is one of the nicest people and always welcoming like your a guest at her home. Love it great food great service. Her collards greens are the best also nice big serving. The ribs just so big and juicy and the homemade bbq sauce sweet and tangy perfect combo.

Awesome ribs! Stumbled upon this place while walking through TL and figured I’d give it a shot with a to-go order. The owner was super nice and helpful. Ended up getting ribs, collard greens, and cajun potato salad. I was happy with all three. Why 3 stars instead of 4 or 5? As much as I want to give it more stars, I can’t overlook the microwave thing that others have mentioned. As soon as my food went in a to-go container, she popped it into the microwave for a few minutes. I’m not a big fan of microwaving anything other than popcorn since it usually gives the food a weird consistency and can destroy flavor. In order to salvage the meal, I told her she didn’t have to since I planned on heating it at home, so she kindly took it out. The other reason for 3 stars was that the meal was pricey($ 25 bucks in total for the ribs and two side dishes) and my girlfriend felt the collard greens were too salty(they were salty, but I liked them). All in all, a solid BBQ place even with the flaws. The ribs were really meaty and tender, so it was easy to overlook the drawbacks. I’d go back.

This is a family-owned, hole-in-the-wall BBQ joint that I really, really wanted to like. There was a cute dining table outside the restaurant with a chalkboard sign. When you enter, you are immediately bombarded by chalkboards along either side filled with dishes. It was a bit overwhelming as I didn’t even know where to begin. My friend and I came here for ribs, and it said«award winning» next to the bourbon ribs, so that’s what we got. It was $ 15.99 for 3 ribs and one side(we had a choice of potato salad, beans, or cole slaw). I asked for collard greens as a side, but that was«extra» cost. I’ve never heard of collard greens being so pricey that it couldn’t be a side dish… Anyway, the ribs came out, and my friend said his were COLD! I noticed that in a several other Unilocal reviews as well. Mine were warm, so it was a bit inconsistent. I got 3 ribs and a few extra chunks of meat. The beans were quite good, although pretty salty. There seemed to be some pork(or pork fat) mixed in as well. The ribs were a chunky, rectangular shape, and it was hard to grip with my hands as the bones weren’t sticking out. I opened for using a plastic knife and fork instead. The ribs were very saucy, and to be honest, the sauce was a little too acidic and SOUR for me. It got to the point where the sauce was preventing me from really enjoying the ribs, and I couldn’t even finish eating them. The dish also came with a cold white roll, that was really unappetizing. They couldn’t have warmed that up a little bit?! We didn’t get wet naps or anything, and we had to use paper from a roll of brown paper towels like they put in the restrooms. I guess this was the authentic experience? It was pretty funny that there were Chinese zodiac paper place mats — it just didn’t fit into the whole southern theme at all. It’s a really small location that seats about 6 on a communal table and around 3 – 4 by the window at a bar-like seating area. The family were watching TV that was turned up pretty loudly as we were eating. It was an interesting experience eating at a mom and pop shop like this. When the bill came out, it ended up being $ 18 for the ribs after taxes. For that price I’d expect two types of meat and two sides like at another BBQ ribs joint to in SOMA. I asked for a takeout box, and since I only had one rib, she gave me foil to wrap my rib to go. I wonder if this business isn’t doing too well even though they’re charging quite exorbitant prices for their ribs. All in all, I can’t really recommend that anyone try this place out, and I’d only go back if I’m really craving ribs and it’s close by.

San Francisco is a food mecca. With so much competition, it is hard to stand out. Hyde Away Blues BBQ is not in the best neighborhood. It is small enough to walk past even with knowledge of the address. And it has seating for about 6 people at most. Nonetheless, this place has amazing bbq! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with the waffle bun and macaroni salad. The pork was so tender and the bbq sauce was the perfect mixture of sweet and tangy. A super drunk girl in the place bought me a side of the lobster mac n cheese because she insisted that I try it before leaving and I have to admit, drunks don’t lie. The lobster mac n cheese is some of the best I have ever tasted, with large chucks of fresh lobster. The owner was so sweet. She treated me, and every customer like family. The restaurant had a home kitchen vibe and a welcoming feel, unlike most places in SF. I highly recommend trying Hyde Away Blues BBQ as soon as possible. Cash Only

You know when… …When BBQ is just so, fine… …So fine you can… …Picture yourself eating it… It’s a Kodak! … It’s a Kodak! … It’s a Kodak! I’ve eaten at 7SFBBQ places so far. 8 if you count Brother in Law’s(RIP). Still 8 if you also count Memphis Minnie’s oohhhhhhsnap. My fave COLEY and GREENS are at NyanCatHead’s. My fave RIBS are at I Hit Em Hi Hit Em Hi Hit Em Hi You Hit Em Lo Hit Em Lo Hit Em Lo.( ) My fave SAUCES might be at GS Riverside Muzzafuzza Tupac Juice. But my fave ATTITUDE is prob a tie between Gussie’s(not BBQ but still) and Jekyll & Hyde Away. The latter was really like I was chinchillaxin’ on a porch with good folk. Look out, RickyRossyBobbyDigitally, Hyde & Seek Freeze Tag Away’s got its own Lobter(sic ) & Crawfish(?) Mac Dre & Yeese.
