Perfect spot for when you’re craving sushi but do not want to pay prices of other nearby sushi spots. Small restaurant but staff is friendly!

I love this place and probably go here once a week at least. My favorite roll is the 49er roll and routinely get the Hamachi and Sake nigiri. This is a great spot for getting sushi that is not too expensive and never do you fear being judged for how you eat the sushi under the watchful eye of the chef. Elephant Sushi may get all of the acclaim(which is well deserved; it’s phenomenal) but I find myself coming here much more often for good prices and friendly people. Take out is always an easy option as well.

Oh my god. Do not go to House of Sushi. I live around here and thought I’d try somewhere new to pick up on way home. Walked in ~6, ordered the you-choose sashimi combo(tuna, white tuna, and salmon) + the roll with salmon/avocado to-go for $ 30. Got home and dug in. Roll did not taste good but I decided to finish it. I’ve got a stuffy nose, took a wiff and it seemed fine… whatever I just won’t come back. Then the sashimi. The sashimi I legit spit back up. I took a picture. I’m worried now about getting sick. For starters the white tuna… was NOT white. Not close to white. Everything was just kindof mushy and tasted like lemony fish-mush. The salmon tasted ok but I stopped half way through thinking wait no… why am I risking it. Gross. Russian hill needs some proper mid-level sushi. **Update! I did not get sick, w00t. I realize review is a bit harsh maybe just a bad night for them. The people were nice, restaurant was clean and to-go service was prompt. Still was gross /still not going back. Sigh

A favorite neighborhood spot; the dragon roll is our favorite. Creamy, saucy, crunchy and lots of umami! There is one sushi chef and they are all very friendly here. Rolls are a good size and fairly inexpensive. A great go to for dinner when you don’t want to over do it but you want to enjoy your meal.

Good enough but not a destination spot. Restaurant is tiny, maybe 10 tables. Bathroom is a single stall but clean and well appointed. Sashimi is pretty fresh, better than the rolls. Rolls were loosely wrapped and carelessly put together. I got the dinner bento box. Filling but standard. Service was quick. Decent spot if you live in the area.

We were visiting from out of town for a few weeks in the Russian Hill area and found this great, small & cozy little place. It has delicious grilled Hamachi Kama and Green Mussels. Went back three times during our stay and will miss it. The owners, chef and service were very friendly and accommodating and we were warmly greeted on each return. Thank you for the plum wine treat House of Sushi! Will definitely return here if we come back to this area. Already missing the grilled Hamachi Kama.

Good for a neighborhood sushi place. Don’t expect anything special. Simple and standard sushi and entrees. The service is friendly. I go here for a quick fix for sake sashimi.

I have no desire to ever go into this place due to the fact of the way they maintain the sidewalk in front of the establishment. Every day their sidewalk is littered with garbage cans smelly garbage and litter. The smell of rotten garbage and vomit does not make me want to enter this place anytime soon.

My boyfriend and I came here on a weekend for dinner and I thought it was pretty okay for Japanese food. The place is pretty cute because you can go downstairs to the restaurant. It is a cute spot but awfully hot inside. They should turn the AC on. The concept of the place is like a Japanese revolving sushi belt, but all the sushi is on little boats and the boats float on water. I did not want to eat at the bar so we sat at a table. FOOD: I ordered one of the rolls and my boyfriend got a 16pc sashimi. The sashimi was pretty good and my roll was delicious. On Unilocal, everyone said to try the agedashi tofu so we did and honestly, it wasn’t that great. The tofu doesn’t have that mochi consistency like some other places I have tried. Don’t bother your time with that. I recommend a roll or some sashimi from this place. WOULD I RECOMMENDIT? Sure, if you’re looking for sashimi or rolls. Also, don’t bother with the sushi belt. It looks a little gross since the water might splash on your sushi/sashimi.

This is such a nice family restaurant where you can relax and enjoy your meal in cozy quarters. The prices are amazing and the sushi is really good too. It’s old-school, small and I like that. If you want a fancy Marina sushi place with $ 15 spicy tuna rolls and a two hour wait because it’s decorated in reclaimed wood, then this isn’t your spot. If you want to be relaxed, full and feel like you’re part of the neighborhood, this is more your style.

I love this place. They are right down the street from me and the people are great. I love the rolls and the server is always quick. I especially love the price, can’t but it in the city. I definitely recommend house of sushi.

At the sushi bar. It was a-ok. Had lotsa nigiri @ the bar; it was true to form. Nothing bad, nothing remarkable, itwasa A-OK experience. Standard fare and fairly fresh & quick. The ‘chef’ was nice. The other inhabitants @ the bar were chatty, maybe regulars @ Da House of Sushi. It was sorta like sitting down in business class on a plane with a chatty person sitting in the next seat… trying to do the«professional snuggle» — get info. on what I do, where I live, my astrological sign… While I am ONLY there to savor sushi. Thought about telling them that I was just released from a mental institution or maybe jail, but I was dressed way too nice. Smart phones are a good distraction, and so, in between bites I poked out a message to a sympathetic and time-generous friend«help I’m trapped at a Sushi bar, next to an intrusive chatter — an invasive species», texting can be the solution to lotsa problems.

Won’t be going back to this restaurant. I’ve been here two times and both times it was out of hunger. Both times I’ve gone for the bento, the batter on the tempura is heavy and thick(I prefer a light, flaky batter) and mind you, the shrimp are small. The dressing is too strong on onion which I’m not fond of. The second time I went was with my boyfriend and he found hair in his bento… NOTGOINGBACK.

Definitely get the house and the kamikaze rolls. On point. The service is alright, family owned and the waitress seems like the daughter who doesn’t want to work. I give her props for sucking through it though. The chef is very sweet. The cuts of fish seem fresh, much fresher than North Beach Sushi if that’s a comparison. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope you do as well!

Somehow I remember this being one of those local places where you could get a passable plate of sushi for a reasonable price. On my recent return I was disappointed to discover it’s not quite what I remember. Frigid service, water thin miso, stale salad and sashimi that looked like it was pulled out of one of those grocery store sushi trays. I literally couldn’t eat the salad. I hate to say it but I felt sorry for the sushi«chef». I get the feeling his days are numbered and we will soon be dealing with another dive bar full of drunk out of towners at this Polk Street address. That is unless he can turn things around.

This place looked promising and inviting. There is a large sushi bar and typical sushi bar décor. The service is terrible. In fact, it is so terrible that I left. I was sat at a dirty table and then promptly forgotten about by the waiter, who had promised to come back with a rag to clean the table. 20 minutes later and I had to assume the waiter had quit or gone into hiding. I have no idea how the food is bit judging by other reviews I don’t think I missed anything.
