Sorry to see one star reviews for this clinician, because I have only great things to say about this clinician. Intelligent, warm, conscientious, and compassionate! Group therapy isn’t for everybody; it does require sharing both the clinician and the time of others in the group. As for remembering books on one’s shelf, that seems like a pretty superficial reason to criticize a therapist.

If you look beyond his impressive credentials, there isn’t much there. Justin Hecth fits the description of the classic narcissist who is drawn to the helping professions to gain power and admiration. If you are looking to gain empowerment through your therapy and/or real empathy, go elsewhere. JH’s thin veneer of phony empathy and care will peel away at the slightest disagreement or criticism. When I told him I needed more support from him in group therapy, he became hostile and defensive. He asked me what I meant then kept cutting me off when I tried to answer. He told me I just wanted him to agree with me and that I did not want group therapy with conflict. The next day he terminated me over the phone and would not allow me to return to say good-bye to the other group members. I learned later that he told the group I quit for financial reasons. The one glowing review, which resorts to condescending to other reviewers really speaks to what kind of example JH sets for his clients, that it’s okay to form opinions based on unfounded assumptions.

Very unprofessional and controlling. I saw him with a friend and he told the friend privately I was a bad person! Quite pretentious. Has books on his shelf that he can’t remember. By the way, another used wrote me that she filed an ethics complaint against him. He also was very critical of a friend who identified as gay but started dating a woman. As it turns out, the friend totally blew the relationship and hurt the woman so maybe he had a point — but justin was very unkind to him.
