I agree with another Unilocal reviewer two months ago who described owner of HalfWitWines as «truculent, unprofessional, and borderline rude». In my experience the owner Jordon Uhlmann was unprofessional and unhelpful and rude. Today, March 3, 2016, the owner showed no interest whatsoever in a delivery problem I was having with HWW’s FedEx shipment. I wanted FedEx to hold the shipment at their FedEx store so I could pick it up myself(signature was required). I was unable to receive assistance from FedEx despite two emails and two phone calls. In its entirety, exactly as copied below, the owner’s response read: «We cannot control fedex just refuse if you can we will credit upon receipt back» Richard Lewis Santa Barbara, CA

I cannot even begin to relate how much I love Half Wit. The selection is great. There is a good selection of fine wines to be had here, all in little half bottles. This in itself is great. Want a glass with dinner and that’s it? Done. Your wife, husband, whatever doesn’t do wine and so full bottles get wasted? Problem solved. Wines from all the major countries and regions are all here in their lovely little half bottles. California Cabs. French Bordeaux, Italian Varieties, Champagnes and sparklings from around the world and on and on and on. This allows us to sample, sample, and sample a wide array of wines we would not otherwise have had the opportunity tor try and has therefore expanded our wine world. In reality it has taken a minor dabbling and blown it up in fine fashion into more of a true hobby. If you’re a wino you understand just how wonderful that is. We love to take a few, four, five halfsies of a given varietal out on the weekend, decant them all at once, and host our own little flights/tastings for two. Coupled with a nice cheese/meat tray and it turns an otherwise run of the mill Saturday afternoon into a bit of an event that generally spills into an A+ dinner to top it off. As new parents also, we don’t get out as much as we used to, so this allows us to bring the party home, so to speak. These guys take a pretty penny from my wallet over the course of the year, but we have a lovely little mini-cellar that is generally primed and ready to go, is ready for company or the impromptu afternoon taste-off. Worth every penny, far as I’m concerned. So, yeah, some of these wines are pricey, then again, some are not. There is something here for every taste and budget. Coupled with to allow you to see what other winos think of these offerings, it’s as easy as it gets for anyone, regardless of level of ‘expertise’(I have literally none) to stock up on some seriously good vino. I know from experience that buying wine can be confusing as hell. Cruising the wine shops or liquor stores or whatever isn’t much easier, but using cellartracker you can find what you want and just have it shipped in. Use these tools and you go from shooting darts at a board, like 99% of the ‘wine lovers’ out there, to making educated purchases pretty much instantaneously. This will up your game so far so fast you simply will not believe how simple it really is. Surf the site and get a load on its way. You’ll never do wine the same again. You will, however, drink a whole lot more of it, and sample things from every corner of the earth. Most of it will be downright excellent, for which you can thank me later.
