I started seeing Rachel Helzer about a year ago, when my previous stylist Jenny moved to another state. I adored and trusted Jenny completely, so when she told me that Rachel was the absolute best person to take over the care of my short, curly hair, I knew I’d be in good hands. Sure enough, I’ve loved everything Rachel has done with my hair! Her expertise with both short hair and curly hair is obvious — she really understands the nuances of both. I love that she’s super responsive to my requests: When I come in with a clear idea of what I want, she executes it beautifully. She always communicates her intentions, and clearly lays out my options. There are never any surprises. And when I’m itching to try something new and edgy, but only have a vague sense of what I’m looking for, she always has killer suggestions. Also, her own personal style is rad — I’m always inspired by whatever cut she’s rocking at the time. As a bonus, I learned at my last appointment that she’s also certified by DevaCurl to do dry haircuts (this can be a game-​changer for people with curls), so once my hair gets a little longer, I’m looking forward to trying out that option! It’s obvious from her portfolio that she has many strengths (color, festival hair, ombré, etc.), but if you want an edgy, short cut, or if you have curly hair, Rachel is your girl!

I love every precise detail that Rachel creates on my head of hair. She’s always super friendly and knows what new fun colors and style to come up with next :)

I’ve been to a few other salons for my platinum blonde hair before I found my way to Rachel and I can confidently say that she’s been the best.
I always get great coverage on my roots and am never left with brassy rings (I ended up looking like a brass zebra after a couple months at a previous salon).
She’s also great at recommending how to care for your hair, in that she doesn’t constantly push expensive products sold at the salon. If there’s something there that will genuinely help your hair or something you’ve mentioned interest in she’ll let you know what to get, but unlike a lot of hair stylists she doesn’t guilt you into trying them (refreshing!). It solidifies that she has your best interests at hand.
To top it off, she’s a total gem to be around! You can tell she loves her job.
