Gobba Gobba Hey’s product is self-described as a «whoopie pie». unlike whoopie, gobba is made with all kinds of organic stuff and no chemical additives. it’s also similar to a moonpie but tastes lots better. sampling: chocolate and vanilla(3) –many varieties, just choose a «safe» one. –very flavorful, fresh, no aftertaste –definitely could be habitforming. foodnotes: –gobba is good but not good for me so will eat sparingly of it. –seems prices have increased since last year.

Tried the Lemon Basil and Strawberry Gob @ Eat Real Fest in JLS — Oh wow! the first bite was tasty and moist, and the flavors amazing! And the guys working the booth were very nice, too. I went back and bought one of each flavor(4). I’m definitely gonna be hunting them down in the Mission… BTW the gob wrappers are biodegradable; compost’em!

I really want to like this place. Food stands hold a special place for me, and the fact that it’s tasty desserts breaks my heart even more. Picked up some whoopie pies when they were at Moxsie in Palo Alto. I got the chocolate with dulce de leche frosting and the gingersnap with raspberry frosting. I’d never had a whoopie pie before so I’m pretty sure I’ve got an objective opinion without expectations. Certainly there were very tasty. Each were smaller than my palm, maybe 5 – 6 bites?. Not overly sweet. Gingersnap actually tasted like it had some ginger. As tasty as they were though, they don’t warrant the $ 2.50 each price tag(really the only bad, if you can call it that). Steve is super nice, helped me decide what to get. Super cute packaging. But sorry gobba, you’re just ok.

I’ll start off my review with a sad comment that became all too familiar to me in high school: «Sorry, but it’s not you, it’s me.» Ha, I finally got to say it. Zing! Though I didn’t anticipate that the first time I would not on the receiving end of that comment will be from a food review. I brought that up because my lukewarm feeling should not reflect the quality of GGH’s product, but more a reflection of my personal preference for this type of dessert, and I can’t fault GGH for that. I liked their… ummm…gobbas…just fine. They had a fresh and subtle flavor to them. The man walking around with these things is one of the nicest people you’ll meet. I can see why people like GGH.

Steve is pure genius! His gobs rank ultra high in the flavor department and really will knock your socks off! I suppose that when one becomes so passionate and knowledgable about the product, the only outcome possible is for it to be amazing and Steve creates just that. I’ve had the pleasure of trying a multitude of creations including a peach melba, a dark chocolate, and a cherry and lime gob, but my favorite, that truly calls out to my heart, is the matcha green tea gob with the lemongrass cream. Holy schmolies, this one is a winner! Just wish it wasn’t such a good seller, so I could eat them all! Guess I’ll just have to hoard as many as I can the next time I run into Steve.

With flavors like Horchata and Matcha Green Tea, I really wanted to love these little whoopie pies, but the flavor(specifically the Green Tea) and the texture of these little cakes were just quite ordinary for the $ 2.50 per cake price. The texture itself reminded much of those little bite size cakes you can buy at the supermarket, but at the supermarket you can buy a whole boxful for $ 2.50, not just one. The Green Tea flavor was just weird. I usually love Green Tea flavored things, but they need to fix theirs — it tasted like toothpaste or something.

Hey Mr Gobba Gobba Hey with your delicious chocolately pie on top of melt in your mouth fillings like horchorta or double chocolate, you rock my dessert world. Yep, that’s right. Rock on. Enjoy!

I don’t gamble because I never win. And my luck(or lack thereof) extends to catching street vendors. So just like I don’t buy the lotto, I don’t try to even look for a particular street food on purpose. But streetfood or not, Unilocal-famous food seem to find me! During the height of my cravings for Dynamo’s Maple Bacon Donuts but could not find the time to drive to the Mission, Dynamo’s maple bacon donut literally fell on my lap once while attending a private event! And just imagine my joy when I went to fabulous party and the hostess gave away Gobba Gobbay Heys as party favors. Like a big kid, as soon as she was out of sight, my 2 BFs and I opened the little brown boxes only to ask: «what are these thing-ys?» They’re 2 soft little cookies held together by sweetened cream cheese. Pastel, cute and cakey but we didn’t know what they were. I said, «maybe they’re macarons.» BF#1 Russ: After biting into a green gob, «It’s sweet. You can have it.» BF#2 Mickey. «Wow, we’re like in Sex and the City. Cool event! *Chewing a gob* It’s good but what is it!?! I went home and Unilocaled it. Gobba-Gobba Heys are WHOOPIEPIES aka MOONPIES! Now, I get it! Each box contained either: Box #1: GREENTEA Gob(Green pies) 2.5 Stars– Tasted bizarre and off. I did not like it. Box #2: GINGER Gob(Brown pies) 4 Stars– Ginger was nice and with the right gingery spice to it. 4 Stars. I would love to try more Gobba Gobba’s flavors such as saffron, cardamom, bacon, etc. for more taste-test but who knows when I would run into a Gob again. So Gobba-Gobba Heys are okay in my book. Definitely a whoopie pie for adult tastebuds but can never replace my mess-y, goo-ey, chocolate-y, marshmallow-ey whoopies of my childhood! Gobba Gobbay Heys are sold as streetfood and from a foodstand. They are a nouveau foodie delight and proudly concocted in San Francisco. Well, good luck catching the Gob Man! When you do, do not let him go until you tasted his whoopies!(Somehow this does not sound so polite!)

Gobba Gobba Eh? Gobba Gobba What? Gobba Gobba Hey! Another SF Sweet Street(try saying that 5x fast) Cart to cross off the list. Gobba Gobba Hey Ya!!! Whoopie Pies! I’ve heard nothing but great things about these these sweet treats. My Sweet tooth partner in crime, Patty P, and I found the Gobs at Fabric 8, and were stoked to try them. The Gob man only had two selections for the day — Coriander with Asian Pear and Chocolate with Bacon. I believe that we were one of his first customers for the evening, and he could not have been nicer. He was more than happy to *gob, oops I mean gab about his gob creations.(Corny, I know but hey, I’m Filipina)! Hah! These delish gobs were only $ 2 each. Whoopie indeed! Patty tried the Coriander and Asian Pear, and she really liked the flavor combination. It didn’t take her long to finish it off. Yours truly was more adventurous(as Patty doesn’t do bacon). Upon first bite, you really taste the sweetness and richness of the chocolate, and the cream filling is a bit sour. The blending of the flavors are unique, but I enjoyed it. What was really interesting was that the smoky, bacon flavor was detected towards the tail end of the bite, and more the after thought. The Gob man caught us prior to leaving and was more than happy to hear our thoughts on the gobs. I gave him my Sweet tooth approval and my two cents. He seemed genuinely appreciative of the feedback. Gotta love the Gob Man! Without a doubt, I will return for more Gobba Gobba Hey, and will be interested to see what new and unique flavors he creates.

Gobba Gobba Hey! The name alone is worth 5 stars. I didn’t grow up with whoopie pies, moon pies, or gobs, so this whole cake sandwich thing is a completely new concept to me. A concept I like. A lot. I’ve been following Gobba Gobba Hey on Twitter for awhile now, and I’m constantly intrigued by the unique flavor combinations. I was hoping Mr. Gob(not his real name) would have the Orange Cardamon Ginger with Saffron he Tweeted about earlier in the week, but alas, he’d switched it up. We had our choice between Coriander with Asian Pear and Valrhona Chocolate and Bacon. I don’t do bacon, so I went with the Coriander and Asian Pear. Love the spice! And the pear flavor was so delicate. It took me a few bites to get used to the whole gob thing, but I could easily see myself downing a few more. My pal Gill C tried the Valrhona Chocolate and Bacon. She reported that the bacon taste is subtle, only kicking in with a hint of smokiness and flavor at the end. Very very interesting. I can’t wait to try the next round of flavors!

Meh. I had one at the 4505 stand at the ferry building, and they’re OK, and the diversity of flavors is a plus, but they’re not worth going out of your way to get. Sorry, I just don’t get it. The company is cute and trendy and sources all their ingredients right and is on twitter, etc., etc. — all things that SFans love — but in the end, the only thing that really matters to me is, «Is the Gob Awesome»? And it was just OK.

Street food, the lazy person’s way, part 2. I like non-mobile food options and full serve fro-yo. Gobba Gobba Hey(Whoopie pie) seemed like something I would like but I didn’t want to follow them around… Instead, I picked mine up at Pal’s Takeaway. They had one flavor: chocolate with almond buttercream($ 2). It’s quite small but larger than a mini cupcake. The chocolate cake part is sticky, tender and soft(it stuck to the plastic packaging). The buttercream part was tangy and creamy without a strong almond flavor. It felt like the right amount of cream(not so much that it oozes out, not so little that you can’t taste it). I like the concept and the execution but I wish there were more varieties and they were easier to find.

Gobs are like dessert crack. Can’t stop, won’t stop. If I keep eating gobs, I’ll turn into a gob. I just like saying that word — «gob», «gobba», «gobba gobba HEY!» Anywhoo, these little cakester creations are such a delighful treat! The first time, I tried a peaches & cream w/peach & lemon butter cream and holy moly, I became an instant addict. At $ 2 a pop, I ended up buying 3 more to take home for my brother to try… but they didn’t exactly make it all the way back to Union City. Whoopsies! When I heard Steve was going to be at the Eat Real Fest, I was so ecstatic. Instead of serving his gobs under a tent, he just walked around with a tray and a backpack feeding his sweet-toothed patrons. This time around, I tried the chocolate gob w/vanilla frosting and it was as divine as ever. If the Eat Real Fest didn’t suck my wallet dry, I would’ve bought some more. As much as I’d like to see Steve take his business to the next level and open up a shop, I love the experience of eating street food. Whatever happens, I hope he continues to paint the town with gobs!

I’m such a sucker for dessert. These Gobs are really good. I tried the Chocolate with vanilla cream. Perfect ending to a night of street cart food. The guy that was selling them is really nice and great to talk to. I hope he keeps this up. It makes me, and I’m sure others, a happy camper.

At first I thought that it would be redundant to write this review since I had already provided a heads up in my 4505 review, but since a few people appear to be misinformed or lost(have trouble finding this vendor), I’ll go ahead and provide a helpful review just for reference. No, that’s not a turkey call like in: «gobble-gobble», or an invitation to devour the food, although you can if you want to. The business name is derived from the riff«Gabba Gabba Hey» in the song«Pinhead» by The Ramones. «Gobs» are like«Whoopie Pies»(Gobs have a creamy frosting filling and WP uses a marshmallow fluff filling). What’s a whoopie pie? The best example I can give you is think of an Oreo cookie, replace the crunchy cookies with soft-type cookies, that’s it. How is that different from a «Moon Pie»? MPs are dipped in chocolate. Update: now it’s just $ 2 for one size [Price was $ 1 for the gobbles, $ 3 for the gobs, or 2 for $ 5]. Steven mentioned that he offers a cheaper price by the dozen(pre-order), but I’ve never bothered to check what that was. Steven excels at coming up with great flavor combinations. Some examples: pistachio orange with orange butter cream, lemon thyme with lemon butter cream, black cherry chocolate with lime butter cream, etc. Yummy! I like whoopie pies(or anything similar), and these gobs are really well made, so it gets 5 stars from me. Although I wish they were cheaper. Gobba Gobba guy(Steven) is relatively easy to find compared to the other street vendors, since he has 2 stationary locations with specific schedules that sell his Gobs: Pal’s Takeaway(Tue-Sat. 11am-2:30pm) and 4505 Meat’s food stand at the Ferry Building market(Thu. only 10am-2pm). IF you still manage to miss your chance, but would like to sample something similar. Here are a few local brick and mortar stores that make their own whoopie pies: Recchiuti Confections inside the Ferry Building, Kitchenette in the dogpatch area(occasionally only, must check website & limited hours), and The Chestnut Bakery in the marina(but that version is average compared to the other ones). You can buy Whoopie Pies online here: You can buy Moon Pies online here:

I am a huge Gobba Gobba Hey gobs fan, these little gobs of goodness are excellent. The cream is perfectly sweet and the texture is smooth and the cookie part so moist. My whole family loved them and Steven, the maker, is a really nice guy, dropped them off to my house and all! The Peaches n Cream was to die for, my husband loved the Chocolate with Balck Cherry Lime filling as well. you gotta try em!

Having grown up in South Central Pennsylvania, I think I know me a thing or two about a whoopie, errrrrr, ‘GOBs’(google ‘gobs’ and ‘whoopie pies’ to see what I mean.. .) I’ve eaten a lot of them in my day and, every time I return to ’”the woods” whoopie-p, errrrr GOBS, are one of those things I just have to get sometime during my stay. So when I discovered they are now available in the Mission, I whooooped, errrr, gobbed?, with shear delight~ Yesterday I tried Gobba Gobba and I have to say these are not only every bit as good as the ones I remember, they’re actually SOMUCHBETTER! The essence of the sandwich is preserved but the creativity of the flavor combinations makes these little cakes absolute *prizes*. Orange Cardammon/Saffron. Inexplicably good. Black Cherry/chocolate with lime buttercream. Sublime! And a Strawberry Shortcake which is every bit as good and light and nostalgic as it sounds too. He’s achieved a perfect buttercream that, despite the butter, is light and sweet –but not cloyingly so.. .. the complexity of the flavors create a round experience that ‘s not overly dense. Just the right sweetness, and just the right moistness in the cake. In fact, I think Gobs just get better and better the longer they’re in the fridge. Keep a lot on hand, –and keep your friends’ hands off them!
